- Maersk to Invest $600 Million to Expand Nigeria's Lagos Port | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, to attend the special session of the World Economic Forum. Tinubu met with Maersk chair Robert Maersk Uggla on the sidelines on the forum. Maersk has announced that it will invest an additional $600 million in Nigeria. This is on top of its existing $2 Billion investment in the country. Maersk plans to expand the infrastructure at the Lagos port complex. Both Tinubu and Maersk's chair want bigger ships to be able to dock in Lagos. Nigeria is Africa's most populous country, and therefore it is a growing market for all types of goods. Maersk wants to capitalise on that demographic dividend, and its willing to put money on Nigeria's future prospects.

This woman and unverified news....goes together like bread and butter
Exactly.
Fake news
paid news
I think they are paid
Exactly, even bayo has deleted the tweet and meask has denied investing in Nigeria
That's fantastic news! Getting a $600 million investment from Maersk is definitely a win for Nigeria..
Nigeria is selling part of its ports stake to Maersk 😂😂😂
Good news Palki, I'm happy for Naija friends, I really wish Nigeria and India to have successful economies because we tired of call centre scammers.
😂😂😂😂please stop it
Good news.mugu

Just like your father scam your mother,Dundee United, mugu😂😂😂.
Nigeria is a fast growing economy, it will be big in the future. I'm investing in a Nigerian startup
This is probably a play on things not improving in the Middle East. They will probably abandon the project If things improve. I just would have a hard time investing in Africa with all of the ethnic and religious violence spreading throughout the continent.
Please carry me along with the start up,
Do you mind investing in my renewable energy startup, Renewable energy is high in demand as Nigeria lacks the ability to generate and distribute enough electricity for her population.
I will be glad if you consider partnering with us.
@@chillxxx241 There is NO such violence ''spreading throughout the continent''. 12 of the 20 fastest growing economies on Earth are African countries, according to the IMF. Africa also has the fastest growing middle class of any continent today. So stop spreading misinformation about Africa.
@vickyverma6852, My brother our beloved country Nigeria is already big, Nigeria has all the resources and wealth to expand Nigeria seaports, Nigeria in the 80s was one of the world power country of the world, Nigeria Currency ( Naira ) was much more valued than the America Dollar and Nigerians do not travel abroad to work unless for education, all Nigeria need is true leader's and not looters or fake loan's to pinned our country down, Nigeria own 65% of the whole of west Africa GDP and she's Africa richest country, all the same I appreciate your Good wishes for Nigeria 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Love and respect from South Africa
1:29: Revenue expansion for who? Not Nigeria. As long as the ports are used almost exclusively to import goods but rarely to export anything, then those ports will mostly benefit foreign companies like Maersk.
ports are used for imports and exports for the country and other landlocked countries' routes.
@@isyakubalaibrahim We all know what ports are used for - you don't have to tell us. We hardly export anything - that is the issue here.
So what are you doing to bridge the gap? Big Opportunity for you to think outside the box and start exporting something
Getting 600 million investment from Maersk on the sidelines of a global meet is a win 👍👍
Not necessarily a win for Nigeria as the people will still be poor, with no lights, no proper infrastructure, no money for the army to fight terrorism, the list goes on.....But someone will be getting rich and it won't be the common man and woman.

They know that investing in Nigeria will get them much profit because %99 of goods use in Nigeria are totally imported
You are wrong. Nigeria imports roughly 1/5th of its goods, not ''99%''. Stop spreading misinformation.
@@african-history-fountain you know nothing about importation in nigeria. Nigeria do not produce and import %99 of it goods. There’s no 24hour an electricity tell me how can production work. Did China make it with such electrical problems ?

Nice report
Nothing is nice here. Didn’t you hear that it will cost more money for nigeria government to maintain the port after they invest 600million USD in it. You Abokis do not understand business that’s why igbos needs to rule nigeria so things can be easy.

We keep hearing about foreign investments coming to Nigeria recently but all the supposed investors keep denying ever having such agreement with the Nigerian government. Who do we believe now?
Why expanding lagos port, making it more congested and making the life of 95% of the importers, igbos. The marginalization and hatred goes on
This is a good news, I hope it doesn't remain on paper. For the record Nigeria's population is over 300 million people.
Maersk denies this to be true. 😮
You are mistaken. There is a new deep sea port thats newly opened. Doesnt need desilting
Its Apapa port we are talking about, not Lekki
They company denied it tho
Is a big win for Nigeria and it’s economy. We need more of such investment in Nigeria. Nigeria had a lot of potentials to be among global economy only if the right leadership is gotten
Nigeria is selling part of its ports to Maersk 😂😂😂. This will help Maersk to form policy on how to tax import to Nigeria. Ghana did the same and were suffering from high import duties over 22 different tariffs.

Chissano's invention of the dust bin has sparked a global conversation about the importance of waste management.
No investment
Why is the president and Maersk focusing only on the Lagos port that is already developed.
This will cause Lagos roads to be more jammed with heavy traffics.
Nigeria has many other ports, the president should should also focus on revitalizing developing those ports (it will ease the burden of business flow from/in Lagos and bring business equity and decentralization in Nigeria).
That is why the coastal road is important because it deconjest the traffic going into the inter land and also lekki deep sea port is also there.. so if this contract is on the lekki deep seaport then it make a lot of sense. Because the coastal road passes through the port.
The investor chooses where it would put its money. Besides, the Lagos ports are obsolete already.
Lagos has already been know before colonisation and also the state known for creative economy that known for the city of impact❤🎉
The president did a good job this time pls invest in Nigeria
Please always verify your information before putting it out there. I am a Nigerian and this presumed deal was a scam by our government. A deal was never struck.
