    Here I am after doing some research on this plant. It was used to treat Smallpox back in the days. Makes me wonder if it will do the same for Monkeypox. I'm prepared to get my hands on some and try. Another pandemic coming.
    Jesus is soon approaching. How fitting that it's shaped like a Trumpet, in reference to the Trumpets blown in the book of Revelation. Thanks for the upload💛💙🙏

    You can feed serracenia with half strength cactus fertilizer and an eyedropper for young plants or a mister for mature plants. DO NOT fertilize the soil (that will burn the roots). For small/young plants fill the pitchers about half way and for mature plants just mist the pitchers. This will really accelerate the growth of young plants. You could also use 1/4 strength tomato fertilizer instead.

      @johnnyAGardening  Рік тому

      Interesting, we may need to try that....We do use a liquid mist fertilizer on Tillandsia, do you have any experience with that?

    Food is essential to these guys. After not feeding them for 2 months they started to really shed their pitchers, only have 2 fully live ones. Once I started feeding again more and more pitches popped up again. Feeding is more essential to these guys than things like VFTS

      Yes, very similar, a friend has both growing in the same container....Works for him... Depends on the climate a little.

      Problem can be salt in the coir, not all but some.

    Do you need to feed them or do they attract insect by themselves?

    • @johnnyAGardening

      If they are outdoors you should not need to feed them....We never feed ours.

      @@johnnyAGardening they are inside but I do have fruit flies ...

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  Рік тому

      @@Scarlett_84 Do they look like they are catching a few insects (eg. the fruit flies). If so no need to feed then. You can usually tell as the stems look a little darker at the bottom.
      You could catch a fruit fly now and then and give them a feed, however if the fruit flies are around, they may already be doing this. You can also use just a little liquid fertiliser every month to give them a boot (1/2) strength.

      @Scarlett_84 Рік тому

      @@johnnyAGardening the stems ate dark red, so I assume it's okay 😊
      Just to pe sure. I'll feed them as well this weekend

    How can I fertilize my sarracenia in a flat where there are no insects?

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  2 роки тому +2

      The options are not great if you cant get them outdoors at all. You could try, a spray 1/3 strength liquid fertilser or 1 or 2 freshly killed insects (small that easily fall down the tube) every month, no insecticides... Hope this helps

    • @atomicskull6405
      @atomicskull6405 Рік тому

      @@johnnyAGardening I've done foliar feeding using 1/4 strength cactus fertilizer and it worked well. What I do is feed the pitchers with the dilute fertilizer using an eyedropper every 2 weeks. Young plants also seemed to mature very quickly using this method (in that case I would feed once a week)

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  Рік тому

      @@atomicskull6405 Interesting, and keeping the fertiiser out of the soil is a good trick. May try this as an experiment. Thanks for watching.

    tap water is ok or must be distilled?

    • @johnnyAGardening
      @johnnyAGardening  2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the tap water, We prefer rain water you need to have a tank to collect this though..
      If not, put your tap water into a watering can, let it sit for 3 - 4 days and then top up the water. This allows some of the fChlorine and Fluoride and other chemical to dissipate.
      You can also boil tap water for 5 - 10 minutes and let it cool. Any of these solutions will work.

    • @hermitholllerhomestead2080
      @hermitholllerhomestead2080 5 днів тому

      You need to use distilled or rain water unless you know that your tap water is low on total dissolve soilds (TDS).
