    You might should have watered it in more after planting to make sure the soil was fully settled around all the roots.
    These require full sun conditions and grow best sitting in a tray of water where the water level is no higher than halfway up the pot. Good luck growing more!

    I used a peat and perlite mix to repot a flytrap and some sarracenia. One thing that concerns me is that the water that drains through the media has a very high TDS reading (200-300). I use distilled water which is around 0-10 ppm. Is this normal? The peat I used is from a company called Dr.Soil and it's specifically for carnivorous allegedly.

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  Рік тому +2

      Ya, you have to be careful of companies selling carnivorous plant soil. They rarely pre rinse. That high of TDS will slowly kill your plant. I'd flush the soil until its reading below 50. This is pretty normal for "Carnivorous Soil Mix". It's frustrating.

  • @paulschaefer5241
    @paulschaefer5241 Рік тому +2

    I think what is likely the biggest issue with these "death cubes" as you often call them is that these plants do need special care and particularly watering requirements. the death cubes are used to ship the plants so they don't dry out in shipment. that coupled with the fact that most of the care instructions given on the package are either too brief or misleading have led a lot of people to think this plants need that high humidity. coupled with the fact that they are usually sold with the tropical house plants leads many to believe they need to be kept warm all year.

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  Рік тому

      I speak to this a lot in some of my new videos about venus flytraps. The cubes are primarily for safe shipping but people get confused and think the plant needs a terrarium type environment with high humidity. I've even seen death cubes with instructions that say to leave the plant in the cube and put it on a window sill. The combination of misleading instructions and how they are packaged is how death cubes formed their names.

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub

      The best time to repot is definitely end of dormancy or beginning of growing season. I do try to repot mine from big box stores as soon as possible however. But, if they are doing well and don't show any signs of distress, I don't see why you can't just let them be until after dormancy.
