  • Dr. Joel Gotvald explains the Varithena Procedure for treatment of varicose veins. It involves injection of foam medication into abnormal leg varicose veins, causing them to close and fade away. It is a FDA approved varicose vein treatment for bulging blue leg veins which may be associated with pain or swelling. It can also treat venous reflux disease or venous insufficiency of the legs. It can be used in saphenous vein therapies. It is similar to traditional foam sclerotherapy.

This is the same as Ultrasound guided foam Sclerotherapy, which should only be used for spider veins. Done alone this is inadequate for larger veins.
After an Endovenous Duplex vein mapping scan to identify the insufficient veins I later had Echotherapy, together with Transluminal Occlusion of perforators, followed after the necessary eight week gap with Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. This was at the Whiteley Clinic in London in 2018, and I haven’t looked back since.

Can this procedure cause a blood clot in the deep veins?

Why do vein ablations cause chronic swelling after a procedure?? These procedures are so scary because of the huge risks. Is that why most say there is no hope for vein issues?

No such risks at all. As you already have read, I had two venous leg ulcers on and off for 10 years. I lost this decade to constant pain, clinic visits, all sorts of useless lotions, potions, honey and compression bandaging. I realised our UK NHS were just managing the symptom not treating the underlying cause, and was told repeatedly that I would be like this for the rest of my life. I started to delve and came across a Professor online who I soon learned had broken away from the NHS because he realised venous patients were being done a disservice.
He opened three clinics in England and his own college of Phlebology in various countries. The founding of this College of Phlebology has been a marked a turning point in this specialist field. He has brought together the finest minds from around the world.
These procedures are really not scary they were a Godsend for me because I was and still am an extremely fit, athletic runner. It was a DVT at the age of only 36 that caused catastrophic damage to my veins which then led to leg ulcers 14 years later. I did have to pay for these treatments, but they were worth every penny. I wish you well 👍🏼

@@1961-v9k I think what I'm worried about is the phelebectomy and the risks of chronic swelling after that. My leg just looks hideous now. Which does effect my mental health. And self esteem. Also I wish there was a place like that close to where I live in United States

@@bowtech1020 Phlebectomy is effective at removing surface varicose veins, but not at treating the underlying cause. It is used in conjunction with other procedures such as Endovenous laser (EVLT) radio- frequency, TRLOP or pelvic vein embolisation. I was on the operating table for four and a half hours for the first two procedures and forty five minutes for the Sclerotherapy. I had no swelling because I had to wear compression bandages for three weeks afterwards. I also administered my own blood thinning injections which were prescribed to me by the clinic.
Some of the stuff I read on these vein channels from the US absolutely horrify me. Even our own NHS are incapable of carrying out these procedures. They cost me approx £6,000 in 2018.

Dr Joel. Do you work for Varithena company itself? Are you being paid to speak for Varithena?

Varithena is a vein procedure, it is not a company 🤣
