- Phlebectomy is a medical term that refers to a traditional surgery to remove abnormal veins. This is most frequently performed for bulging blue veins on the legs called varicose veins. Phlebectomy also goes by common medical names of "micro phlebectomy," "stab phlebectomy," "ambulatory phlebecdtomy," or "pin phlebectomy." This procedure involves removal of large varicose veins through small puncture incisions on the legs. It can be performed under local anesthesia in the office or under general anesthesia.
Is it more risky under general anesthesia. In terms if nerve damage? The patient won't know till they wake up. Theres no way of knowing if you are near a nerve when your under?
I think what you might not understand based upon your comment that people waited too long to treat there veins. I am 6ft 1 i was 190 pounds i had absolutely no visible veins. I lost 65 lbs and that's when i seen my legs. So maybe thats not in the dr books not sure.
How painful is the recovery from phelebectomy. Not the procedure. But the recovery. I've heard months but not sure
Typically it is not very painful. Most of my patients do not require narcotics afterwards and if they do it is usually just for a few days. Most of my patients are back to full exercise after about 2 weeks as the healing occurs quickly.
Most of us don't realize that spider or varicose veins can be gone within days, not months. Yes, there are many ways to accomplish this, but search for Mabel Ridenbel's website if you're intrigued.
