It ended up being one of the most efficient engines ever for its size, but as it was designed for military purposes and they needed it to work slightly more often than a rainstorm in the Gobi, it was scrapped.

As a Mazda technician and previous owner of a couple Mazda Vehicles I do not believe that this set up in anyway shape or form would be practical at all. Though a Rotary can be made to be fairly reliable, in this application it’s obviously made for one purpose. Relax.

Thats ignition cut for flat shifting, not anti lag. The strategy being the driver can keep on the gas while pulling the next gear and not lose momentum and the turbo's remain spooled. Rotary engines flow so much air you dont really need an anti-lag strategy, every rotation is a power stroke so its flowing a lot of exhaust gas through to the turbo, and this being a 2 rotor twin turbo its likely a 1 rotor to 1 turbo setup.

its a twin turbod 13b. Mild porting and the two turbos will definitely alter and smoothen out the exhaust pulses/sound. Of course it wouldn't sound anything like a naturally aspirated peripheral ported rotary
If you don´t know, google it and confirm for yourself. It´s not like this is a barely known project. Pretty high profile on the Hillclimb Racing World and its building process was shown at the time in a quite detailed manner.
