    When Toronto city counsel gave themselves a raise during the last economic crisis, Canada was experiencing the highest unemployment rate in recent history and it made my blood boiled. The fact that they passed a salary increase right before Christmas was adding insult to injury for us minimum wage earners making a quarter of what they make. Today justice was served the right way, unequivocal, unapologetic and cold!

      If you're worried about selling Government Assets, go ask Kathleen Wynne. She has a proven track record of selling public assets (hydro one?!). Start talking about facts, not hypothesis.
      Downsizing the Toronto City Council will give us more money. If you're a concerned citizen, you will obviously want a policy that will increase your budget the right way and not will slash it out.

    Good! the judge was wrong in his ruling; this has nothing to do with charter rights at all. It has everything to do with cutting the fat.

    • @SirBloodaxe
      @SirBloodaxe 6 років тому

      When it had to do with those in Toronto having fair representation at municipal council it has everything to do with the charter of rights, and stop using LA as an example, they have 105 aldermen along with the 25 councilors, which seems Ford forgot to mention. Also when he talks about campaigning about cutting big government, why not start there at HIS lvl, provincially. Ask Toronto voters if they want there representation cut to this extreme,. I have no problem with council reform, just make sure its what is wanted by the voters of Toronto, as it is ONLY their business.

    The problem in Canada is we take too long to get anything done. What Doug Ford is doing is getting Ontario back on track. He wants to do it quickly. I support Doug Ford in his action to turn Ontario around as he says. So far he is accomplishing much of what he said he would do. Some may not like the invoking of the notwithstanding clause but it is there for a reason. We have had 15 years of liberal policies that have almost ruined Ontario. The time is right to get back to getting things done in Toronto and Ontario.

    • @don-cw1yz
      @don-cw1yz 6 років тому +5

      Let me think about your comment. Ontario's debt over 300 billion.Out of control consumer and business electricity prices. Yet Hydro One top 5 executives paid about 24 million$ yearly.Manufacturing businesses can't get out of Ontario fast enough in many cases.
      Here are some of the highlights of the Liberal record over the last 14 years:
      The self-interested, secret Hydro One fire sale that is putting Ontario back in the coal business
      Five OPP investigations (here, here, here, here and here)
      Doubling the provincial debt
      Deep cuts to health care
      The loss of hundreds of thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs
      Billion dollar eHealth boondoggle
      Kicking 3,500 children with autism off of the waitlist for life-changing IBI therapy
      600 schools closed or slated for closure
      Millions spent on partisan, taxpayer-funded vanity ads the Auditor General would have blocked
      Zero development of the Ring of Fire
      The Cap-and-Trade cash grab that will send billions to California
      Massive tax hikes including the vehicle and license fees and the health tax
      Allowing violent sex offenders on parole to roam the streets unsupervised
      Gas plants scandal that cost $1.1 billion and counting

    • @don-cw1yz
      @don-cw1yz 6 років тому

      Sure the former liberal government doubled Ontario's debt over their tenure which is at 315 billion $. That and other reasons is why the electorate basically decimated the liberals at the polls in the last election.But do not be so smug BC has a debt of 67 billion$ and Alberta's debt is 47 billion $. Actually under Coulinard Quebec has been producing surplus budgets even though that provinces debt is 125 billion$. All Canadian provinces have huge debt.

What can they bribe him w/? Money? He's a millionaire already, he's not interested in some stinking corporatist globalist's money. Nothing short of kidnapping his family would do and even then he has the full force of the law and secret service at his disposal. They can't blackmail him because he's scandal proof, as they've dug up every bit of dirty or slightly soiled laundry they could think of when he was in office w/ his brother. You can’t compare the dairy industry to the auto industry. Two totally different industries. Cars don’t go bad after 2 days like milk does. Cars can sit in a sales lot for 3 weeks until sold but milk can’t. You either have to sell it or throw it away.

The Judge is ensuring our Charter of Rights and Freedoms isn’t overrun by a zealous Premier trying to find a win anywhere as he’s had so many legal suites and losses with his platform promises (beer for $1, Tesla buyers not getting rebates, hydro project cancellation, job growth, $0.10 off per litre of gas, etc). Pure bullying to force this through during a municipal election. Ford has a valid point that 90 days has passed but his motion should have concluded not launched 90 days ago. He needs to wait for the next election process. Stop over promising and then trying to force changes. Do this properly or you’re no better than McGuinty (Gas plants, wind turbines) or Winn (liquor sales in grocery, sale of hydro one, hydro rate reductions).

    Two wrongs don't make a right. The not withstanding clause is essentially a Fire Alarm. You only use it for emergencies. Wars, natural disasters and such. Not only has Ford done this but he is promising to do it whenever he thinks he should for whatever he thinks he should. Those who don't see a problem with that mindset haven't thought about the bigger ramifications of that mindset. You could use that clause to deny due process, restrict medical procedures or abrogate any rule or process that is covered by the constitution. It really is a very powerful tool that should only be used in the most dire need. This doesn't really qualify in my mind. The normal course would be to appeal the judgement the way the rest of us all have to in the case of a disagreement with a judicial decision. And forgive me for saying, I'm not an Ontario resident but I wouldn't want the likes of Doug Ford deciding at his whim what judicial decisions he is going to follow and which ones he isn't. I'm quite sure that the Ontario Premier would be hollering the loudest if the Federal Gov. stepped in and used its power to override his decision in this case. There is a 1947 law on the books that would potentially allow them to do it. When Ford starts talking for all of us like he did in the piece, he sounds an awful lot like another over the top politician we are all too familiar with.

    Douglas Ford is a virtous man. IF he was running for Prime Minister and I were a Canadian, I would vote for him as the best leader for Canada. Douglas Ford is firm and fair and he could be a great representative to negotiate a fair NAFTA deal with President Trump. I know that President Donald Trump would respect Douglas Ford as a great partner and restore the historical ties between Canada and the United States.

    The irony here is just last week the federal court changed the rules on the NEB's approval of the TransMountain pipeline in 'the middle of the game' to quote Edward Belaboba. Canadian judges also must realize they can not shape law to suit their own whims and the party that appointed them. They SHOULD be acting for the good of the country, not practicing partisan politics in a court of law. Doug Ford has won a majority of historic levels in Ontario. To contest what the overwhelming majority of Ontarioans have voted for is a deep insult to the fabric of true democracy in Canada.
