We need to try and refind native cultures of the past, if possible, not continue to destroy cultures all over the world. What is happening is we are going to become one big global culture - the culture of the consumer. Consumers for global multinational corporations. All we find today is Starbucks. H&M, etc. Every European/American/Asian city are becoming the same - a handful of the same shops. All the unique things are being killed off. They don’t want diversity. They want one uni-culture that will purchase only from a handful of multinationals. Secondly, there are huge areas that are only for the indigenous tribes - although perhaps more should be given is a good argument, and it can still be done if it’s wanted/needed. However, it must be noted that there wasn’t one tribe in the Americas. There were plenty - and many committed complete genocide against others. Off the top of my head I can’t remember names and numbers but there are tribes that no longer exist (complete genocide) because they were destroyed by other tribes - not by Europeans. Many Europeans even came to the aid of some tribes, and protected them from the hostilities of others. It’s much more complex that what is generally taught. (White man bad, brown man good) Another point is that more than half of the natives in North America died from disease that they hadn’t been previously in contact with. It’s not the Europeans tried to kill them off. Quite the opposite- they wanted to trade with them and learn from them. Also, think of how tiny England is. How tiny Scotland and Ireland are. It can’t be compared to continents. We must preserve cultures everywhere - no matter the animus people harbour for past injustices (perceived or otherwise). In a few more years these multinationals will have the world reshaped to suit them - not matter what they destroy. They see us as numbers - just consumers. That’s it. If you want to know just one statistic you can look up now: 1/4 to 1/3 of small to mid-sized farms in Europe have closed down in the last 15-20 years! As an American watching this I am deeply saddened to hear the same nativist talking points being made in the Uk, that the now ruling party in the US is making, just months before, if they follow through with their plans, millions of people will be rounded up and interned in camps while they await deportation. There is going to be a huge reaction by voters in Western Europe that will end up over-correcting immigration policies and move us significantly to a harder-right position than we perhaps would have wanted or that immigrants and ethnic groups deserve. @@dec3142 Hi, firstly, we can’t make decisions today based on things that happened 500 years ago. Many things were very different then, all over the world. We need to try and refind native cultures of the past, if possible, not continue to destroy cultures all over the world. What is happening is we are going to become one big global culture - the culture of the consumer. Consumers for global multinational corporations. All we find today is Starbucks. H&M, etc. Every European/American/Asian city are becoming the same - a handful of the same shops.
All the unique things are being killed off. They don’t want diversity. They want one uni-culture that will purchase only from a handful of multinationals.
Secondly, there are huge areas that are only for the indigenous tribes - although perhaps more should be given is a good argument, and it can still be done if it’s wanted/needed. However, it must be noted that there wasn’t one tribe in the Americas. There were plenty - and many committed complete genocide against others. Off the top of my head I can’t remember names and numbers but there are tribes that no longer exist (complete genocide) because they were destroyed by other tribes - not by Europeans. Many Europeans even came to the aid of some tribes, and protected them from the hostilities of others. It’s much more complex that what is generally taught. (White man bad, brown man good)
Another point is that more than half of the natives in North America died from disease that they hadn’t been previously in contact with. It’s not the Europeans tried to kill them off. Quite the opposite- they wanted to trade with them and learn from them.
Also, think of how tiny England is. How tiny Scotland and Ireland are. It can’t be compared to continents. We must preserve cultures everywhere - no matter the animus people harbour for past injustices (perceived or otherwise). In a few more years these multinationals will have the world reshaped to suit them - not matter what they destroy. They see us as numbers - just consumers. That’s it.
If you want to know just one statistic you can look up now: 1/4 to 1/3 of small to mid-sized farms in Europe have closed down in the last 15-20 years! Most of these farms have been in families for generations! They just destroyed Sri Lanka in the same manner (bought out all the farms and then it all went bust so people are now starving). All this because they want Big Agro (a few corporations that own all the food). Bill Gates is now the owner of the most farm land in America. It’s mad what’s happening. It must be stopped.

As an American watching this I am deeply saddened to hear the same nativist talking points being made in the Uk, that the now ruling party in the US is making, just months before, if they follow through with their plans, millions of people will be rounded up and interned in camps while they await deportation. I think what he is implying, which he backs up with some evidence, is that 2nd and third generation immigrants on average are not well integrated to western and British values. When Goodwin highlighted the fact that the UK government does not keep track of welfare benefits of immigrants, asylum seekers, nor that of criminal activity conducted by said groups and furthermore by religion of immigrants, Mehdi and Zoe simply shut up and changed the subject. UK Gov in the latest census reports shows % of welfare benefits, education and skills (tertiary education) of UK citizens by religious groups and the stats are very clear on who are contributing and which religious ideology is a drain on UK taxpayers. This is not a debate nor a discussion if you don't actually let Goodwin take the time to answer. And some of the rebuttals in particular by Zoe Gardner is a perfect illustration of why we are in the mess we are in across the UK and Western Europe which is what Goodwin was actually alluding to as the "liberal elite" takeover. Also this debate is heavily edited by Al Jazeera which is typical. There is going to be a huge reaction by voters in Western Europe that will end up over-correcting immigration policies and move us significantly to a harder-right position than we perhaps would have wanted or that immigrants and ethnic groups deserve. This will increase racial and class tensions further and the people who are to blame will be the new-age politicians and liberal-elite within universities, schools and middle class societies. Uncontrolled mass immigration does not and will not foster cohesiveness nor provide socio-economic benefits to anyone, when the non-liberal elites get the info to run the stats the results are going to be plain to see. The Dutch already worked out that the immigration cost benefit since 1995-2024 has a loss to the country of EUR400 billion. Crazy.

It's astonishing some of the baseless claims Matthew makes such as ethnic and cultural link to the 17 year old boy who murdered the three children in Stockport. How do you make that link when the Police don't even know the motive? The court works on evidence that can be proven not some pathetic theory that Matthew has. All of these comments commending Matt for being “calm” under the interruptions from Mehdi, but Mehdi was just cornering Matt and holding accountable for his own biased and racist statements. Mehdi is the best at doing this, using facts and stats that disprove what his debate partner has/is saying.
