- I have an old Springfield .22 rifle that I sanded down and engraved. Then I put on a clear coat and painted the trigger guard.

Where can I find that deer image you used?

How did you come up with guns butt stock outline?
This is an old Springfield .22 that was passed down from my Grandpaw to my dad then to me. It was in bad shape. It does not have the original stock. It has a dove tail stud that I had to weld in place to bolt it back to the stock. The dove tail studs were flared out and did not hold tight anymore.I sanded the stock and just found this image of the deer that I vectorized to engrave. I took a photo of the stock right beside a tape measure and traced out the stock in Inkscape to cut a scrap section to hold the stock in place and properly line up the image. I drew a rectangle in Inscape and lined it up with the tape measure. Then I scaled the image till the rectangle and the image of the tape measure matched size by how big Inkscape said the rectangle was. That is the way I do all my round objects, or add shape objects. I have not seen anyone else do that. There might be a better way I don't know. But I like this way.
In this video, I use V-Carve. But you get an idea of how I did the gun stock. It will work the same in Inkscap, Lightburn, or any other program. ua-cam.com/video/2tDnTVw47-Y/v-deo.htmlsi=uuBRZZeb2Tg-iFy0
I am big on making my own files as much as I can.
@@JackInTheShop any chance you can do a video of the sizing process using your program?
@@The_Redeemer28 Sure. But it is very simple. I take a photo of the item beside a tape measure. Bring that image into Lightburn, or Inkscape, Or RDworks, any program you use will work the same, these are the ones I have used. Draw a rectangle vector to 20 inches. Scale the image till the tape measure matches the vector. Then trace the item in the photo with the pin tool. I do it the same way in the videos where I line up an image for a handsaw on the plasma table.
