Interesting deep dive. The shells identify the optimum conditions advantageous for the beginnings of the food chain. Find the prey, find the predators. Why have I never heard this explanation? Thanks man. Don't I feel sheepish. Good video sir and good luck at your next event.
Not all high spots hold shells and the ones that do tend to hold more Bass again it's more of a Ecosystem type deal.
Would have been super awesome if you took a water drone to those places and shown them.

Little more to it sir. There's lots of truth to what your saying but not quite the entire reasoning behind it. Meaning the Shells themselves do play a major role as for the Bass being there. I'm no Biologist by no means but I am Blessed to live here on Ky Lake and have gained some knowledge into the reasons has to why Bass tend to get on Shell beds in which there are many factors that come into play. Ecosystem being the main reason of them all and your theory is included in the many reasons. If you go out here and catch a mess of Shellcracker your livewell will have many crushed up pieces of shells in it to the point of clogging your livewell plumbing. Without getting into detail on that point it's basicly the theory that smaller fish attract bigger predatory fish. Also you've heard of guy's fishing the Shad spawn well some in the know fish the Shell spawn here which also goes into the ecosystem theory as it to attracts the smallest of fish/bait. The female shell will simply open up and the male will fertilize which creates this milking substance which attracts bait which attracts bigger fish if makes sense. Although your theory has some merit to it its not quite the entire reason as to why the Shell beds attract Bass. I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just adding to your theory is all. In a nutshell no pun intended it's basicly an ecosystem thing more than it simply being a high spot.
Thanks for the feedback. You are correct in what you are saying, the shells do add to the attraction to an area in some ways because they attract other smaller baitfish. I was trying to talk about the location of where to find shellbeds more that why they are so productive. I’d like to further expand on the topic to discuss the WHY instead of just the WHERE in the next video.
i have never seen shell beds in Ohio waters? are they there?
