No accounting for taste...but this song would not have been the first song I would have given her and definitely would have done a live one like Stairway To Heaven live 1973.

To the dad in this, and I like all of it but man, I had a totally different experience encountering this in junior high school and then continuing to rock out to it in high school with my first girlfriend and just some good times happening. It sounds totally different than your experience. We weren't worried with the meaning or anything about it it was all about the feeling of it and the fact that they could Rock so hard and still be so melodic and amazing. It was more on that level. Ironically, I think it was music that let us not have to listen to adults lecturers about things. And that's what we loved about it.
This gave me flashbacks to that scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont high where Mark follows Damones advice and plays Zeppelin in the car on his date with Jennifer Jason Leigh, and she's just sitting in the passenger seat looking all awkward, waiting for the song to be over.

Except it was Kashmir, not side 1 of Led Zeppelin 4 like Demone told him...and we all noticed and responded by yelling and honking at the drive in screen, haha........and I think she just felt awkward because it was their first date.

One of my favorits Zepp's song. Is so emmotiant see your face, Silas, when you are hearing de song because you have the same face that all Zepp lovers. You feel the song....is beauty. Thanks to your father who, probably, show you to hear good music.

I can appreciate the discomfort of listening to something you don't connect with or feel while two die-hard fans are bouncing and moshing behind you. I've been there with other bands.
Led Zeppelin in general, as awesome as they were, and any particular song, isn't going to be everyone's taste.

I was drawn to the title and good luck with the conversion.
I always think the best thing is to just tell a person the name of the band/song and then play it. No, 'It's so amazing, it's just so unbelievably great music,' etc, etc. I've had people do that to me when i was young, and it puts pressure on the person listening. They realize how much the song or band means to you and they don't want to disappoint. I think it's unfair to build something up, then say, 'What do you think?'
I would have started her with something like " whole lotta love" or " black dog", then graduated to this

I would have given more specifics about what a rock band is or better yet go with something like Ramble On there is an early performance video with the studio track audio. She just needs a bit more orientation. For rock and roll I’d start with Elvis. Fun video thanks

Love this reaction to the greatest band ever. Do you think everybody thought Mozart was a genius or the Beatles were the best band ever? Peoples opinion differ according to their own experiences. In time I'm sure she will come to realise what the rest of us know, that this band was exceptional.

Complex, beautiful and seductive. I once was 13 and heard this and fell in love. I'm still in love with them all these decades later. My parents were not pleased with their little girl for having Led Zeppelin hanging from the back of her bedroom door.
Hi have you ever listened to the coda album one of my favorite songs of theirs comes from this one....hey hey what can I do it was one of their songs that did not make their last album in through the out door. They were under contract for one more album when John died.
This is hysterical! She looks so totally underwhelmed. She's giving Dad the side-eye like "this man is out of his mind." I don't think this song is the best introduction to Led Zeppelin. I think Rock and Roll or Good Times Bad Times are much more accessible. If you'd asked her if she liked it, I think she would have said "no".

Led Zeppelin hits harder when you are olderr because its emotional music, you have to experience the heartbreak or a big loss to appreciate it to the fullest, but i still think classical music is better for that even. And the girl in the video is bit too intelligent for Zeppelin, rock and roll requires certain level of brainwash, its energy and pattern driven genre, it was the music of my childhood and early teen years, i loved playing live version of Going to California before sleep, now i prefer Enya and for energy and creativity i prefer Haken, for heavy sound and mood i prefer Tool.
This is not the best LZ song to introduze to someone for the very first time.

The problem with today's music is that it sucks. I heard the rap going on in the car next to me and it was just a drum beat in the background with some regular sounding guy complaining about stuff: "I keep tryna call but my phone's busted, ow my finger and blah blah..."
When I was ten, Stairway To Heaven blew me away and I would have to stop and listen. Radio was good. Olivia has no music today to be inspired by. No one knows how to write music or play instruments. --
Just have to say, as a drummer, John Bonham does more with the hi-hat on Zep 4, than any other drummer does in their career without even doing the 'pss, pss,' sound a single time. Listen carefully to Misty Mountain Hop.

@@JacobBailey I don't know if it's her age. Many of us who still listen to LZ were her age, and even younger, when they turned us on our heads. But we were already listening to great musicians by that time, so we knew the difference. She just doesn't get it, and that's OK. Sad, but OK. ;)
