Your comment has hit me so hard thank you so much, I can't just do nothing all my life and now I am getting old enough to realize doing nothing is a wonderful way to heal and calm the mind the spirit and the soul

Your own personal search for wisdom and sense-making is quite admirable. It is evident in every one of your podcasts. It is much appreciated, probably more than you can know. I hope your impending psychic "battery charge" is both fun and fruitful. Bon voyage, mon ami!
Your coach sounds very wise Nate, and good for you to enter into this experience. The content you discover and share is inherently stressful so it makes sense for you to have this retreat. Also, your lessons and personal reflections in this video are very helpful. You motivated me to spend an hour being aware, and offline. May you be peaceful and at ease over the next 5 weeks.
My reptilian self acknowledges yours. This stacked way of looking at things is precisely what I have gathered by doing retreats. A huge challenge is integrating and balancing, grounding and moving with so many parts in real life, here and now. Best of luck and a big hug, Nate.

Was injured in a catastrophic accident (not of my making) which left me with broken bones and bruising injuries, one injury being to the head. Whilst I physically healed, only leaving me with scaring, I started suffering from panic attacks which I’d never had before, the panic attacks were brought on by stress, I worked in a stressful job, one that I loved, but it frequently required meeting deadlines. Visited a clinical phycologist, was told that part of my brain had undergone what could only be described as a short circuit, the result being like an electrical flashover, when that happens it leaves a carbon track so whenever electrical potential rises it will flashover below its previous flash point, whilst you can clean or replace an electrical device you can’t do that with the brain, so you have to become aware of what causes those stress levels and avoid them, which is what I’ve had to do and live with🤔

I always get a little nervous when people start talking about mentors and coaches, they so often end up being scam artists, cult leaders, and/or hacks. But I hope your coach is none of those, and that you're having a good technology-free retreat!
Well, some time ago I was recommended to see a Healthy Gamer UA-cam channel (despite the name, it's not only for the gamers). It is run by a very interesting person who knows neuroscience, psychology AND Eastern philosophical/medical traditions. I've got to say that what Nate said he is going to do and why very much echoes what is taught in that channel, so I'm sure he is not being scammed :)
Best of luck for your well-earned break. I've learned a great deal from your channel and thank you for all your efforts. May 2024 bring internal peace in troubled times. May all beings be happy...
A deep bow , a standing ovation, and humble thanks Nate, for your core shift. I’ve followed your meteoric rise in your podcast and for the past year had to reduce my intake of your always valuable interviews. Our mass addiction to the FOMO -driven 24/7 “firehose” of content has come to include even the voices that I truly want to hear. My work in Living Resilience is offering support, resources and practices to the collapse-aware and collapse-acceptant communities. Many of the elements you describe in this Frankly and in your retreat are woven into our work in our support groups, especially our Community of Practice. I really look forward to hearing about your time away. I’ve been gathering and curating practices for decades now, practices like the daily mini rituals you describe in this video. I won’t lie… I’m envious as hell at the ability and resources to take 5 weeks off. I truly hope this is magnificent for you - and I trust you will return to share with us some of your learnings and experiences. You are an able and generous teacher. Well said, and yes through "Living Resilience" you have collected and organized some great resources. I agree that keeping up on just the content Nate puts out is overwhelming
I enjoyed hearing about your 5 weeks of reflection, Nate. In 2023 I made several lifestyle changes as a result of your content. Based on this video I'm seriously considering 1 day of "Noble Silence" each month. I'm sure that would make my wife quite happy....
Nate, this is a brilliant clip. Good luck with your reset. Surely most of us who share your perspectives on the great simplification and the challenges ahead will benefit from your example of personal growth.
Good stuff Nate. By the way, I just watched your excellent interview on canadian prepper. The intellectual difference between you and the host was night and day. You did a great job of dumbing it down for him and his audience.
Beautiful. I acknowledge your vulnerability, Nate. I reflect on the younger generation on how they are (including myself) are constantly being stimulated through the different mediums of technology. As a social predator, I believe it is important to find the stillness and silence within. That is a gift we owe, as a society, to the younger generation.

I doubt very much that you’ll read this Nate, but it’s said a problem shared is a problem halved, and there are many of us making up those halves who tune in to your podcasts. Your problems seem to be one of time management and if you’re a perfectionist and altruistic person which is what I think your are, that makes time management and problem solving doubly difficult. I also feel you’ve tapped into something with regard to the poly and metacrisis, with a slogan aptly named “The Great Simplification” and that along with the wise choices of guests you’ve made to date. You’ve also tapped into something many of us can relate to, but therein lies another problem one of the success of your philosophy/ideology seen throughout increasing numbers of followers, which requires even more of your time to produce content. It reaches a point where to continue your success a production team and someone to direct them is needed according to your philosophy/ideology and that means releasing the reins to others, and therein lies maybe your greatest problem one of delegation. Your health must come first. I just hope we’re not seeing the demise of Nate Hagens along with “The Great Simplication” and so hope this de-stress and detoxification retreat has the desired effect🤔

Wow Nate, this retreat sounds great! I have done several one and two week silent Buddhist meditation retreats but the approach you describe sounds more integral of body and mind. May you recharge your limbic and other systems and I am eager to learn about your experiences. Namaste 🙏
Nate, my explanation; the basis of life is reincarantion we are all connected by thoughts and experiences in an unknown system as thoughts are not known to exist. Psychopaths and narcissists have strong minds to influence this connection system trying to dominate their ego over the importance of the whole. Their tools hypnosis and part possession, influencing people their way. Being away form our normal connections with other people helps to find our own way without too much influence. Your coach talk about stacks of thoughts. Healing and trying to get rid of hypnosis is important. Have a good time relaxing and finding a rhythm.
I can feel your pain, 2023 was tough for everyone. This is a great ideology to understand and evaluate oneself. All the best and hope you have the needed revelations at the self exploration retreat. Took some screenshots and added to my stack of facts. Guess I need a retreat too.
Thank you Nate for this Frankly. We could probably all use a reset. I know I could but I haven't figured out how to do it. Also this could help with the climate crisis. If we all took more time to reflect we'd feel less need to consume.
Good fortune on your retreat. I hope you have a healthy and revealing experience. We really can’t help people in the ocean of suffering if our own vessel isn’t shipshape. ✌️❤️💪

I have unsubscribed from Russel Brand and Gerald Celente. When they "calm down" and start communicating in "appropriate tones" that do not escalate adrenaline with "over the top" aggression, I MIGHT go back. Meantime, I don't look for "war narratives" from anyone, also unsubscribed The Grayzone and The Duran. Yes, Nate, your content AND presentation is reasonable and rational, like any "teacher" that has anything to say. The review of 7 levels of human being is great, and presents a path to click on a parade of "choices" that make sense and suggest "making plans" as opposed to waiting for "someone's" predictions to come true.
Ha! I did similar, even disposing of anyone over 1000 subs on my list except Nate. Not sure where this momentum is going to take me, the end of the road is off this internet map.
This will probably get lost but the dopamine figure could explain why we have a two party system around the world. It us also at a cellular level, cells find a way around problems and then rest, do and be. What's interesting is the cells if told soon enough can survive issues, my worry is the shock will be so great because of the hidden messages given to the public about the real dangers, the cells don't have a chance to find a work around The last part of this video applies to this: ua-cam.com/video/YNCZf2slA-U/v-deo.html
Turn the volume down and hear the silence can be one of the best things ya can do...second before you fall asleep and the second you come out of sleep are reminders of this natural silence.
Grateful for this Nate, and if you’re willing to share your coach’s contact hopefully soon, my family would def be interested in such a retreat ourselves! Much love
I was admiring your openess and sharing of insights! Thank you. The stoic philosophy came to mind as well as the book "the molecule of more" D. Lieberman & M. Long. (Havent finished it yet....)
Great episode Nate. Looking forward to seeing the "new you" although the current version has a lot to like also. You might find value in something called the enneagram. It's ancient wisdom that went mainstream and perhaps got corrupted a bit in the process but at it's core I think it offers tremendous insight intro how each of us react to stress, and shows us that there is a way out of repetitive patterns that keep us "stuck". Russ Hudson has an audiobook entitled "The Enneagram - Nine Gateways to Presence" which I found very helpful.. it struck me while listening that if we could just channel the energy in our own psyche with awareness the world might change overnight.
A simpler method would be to learn Transcendental Meditation or if that sounds a bit too religious, Mindfulness, but at least initially within in group, not on your own, otherwise any phycological problems will only manifest themselves for later🤔
Cool. I'm a teacher and I've been saying all through the holidays - what I really need is three months on a silent retreat. Funny that. Hope the experience is illuminating or whatever 😁🙏
Wisdom comes in many forms. Thank you for sharing. The behavioral stack "Enteric" needs receptive biota to process it. Pure KNF and Korean Natural Farming has some insights.
Very interesting, I look forward to hearing about your "results" in February! I also greatly appreciate your conscious avoidance of the "guru" path (which doesn't preclude self mastery). In my perspective, that path is a trap for all involved as it is too easily abused and seems to be based in an authoritarian cultural framework. IMHO, we humans did not evolve to live in authoritarian social structures and will not get free of the predicament of modernism (ie, "growth is good") until we can throw off the shackles of authoritarian thinking and acting and return to the relative egalitarianism of our origins.
THANK YOU Nate!!! And happy new year...Hoping the first few weeks of your retreat have been wonderful and restful...I learn SO much from your podcasts and I am also so reassured and inspired by your calm and intelligent presence. As a former classroom teacher of young children and young adults for over 2 decades, I feel it is within my purview to proclaim that you are an excellent teacher. (Btw doesn't the word guru mean teacher???) I am so grateful to you for all your efforts and all your talents... I look forward to seeing you in February!!!💙
Woah that makes too much sense Thanks for sharing My more conspiratorial mind thinks we are kept traumatized adrenalized narcissistic and desperate. Makes us more mailable easier too control. Whether it’s intentional or an emergent feature of the machine I know not. Trauma based brainwashing tho hey.
The idea of an evolutionary stack I completely go along with. The one described is way off. The base is biochemical - subcellular systems. Then cellular. Then cooperating cells - which includes our own cells cooperating, and our microbiome. Cooperation is what makes complexity possible, at every level of the stack. At 10:15 someone's Freudian slip is showing - Oxytocin - NOT - Oxytoxin. Anything can be a toxin in an inappropriate concentration in an inappropriate context. Our emotional states evolved for contexts of our deep past. They are part of us, they can deliver degrees of wisdom, and in our modern contexts, can be entirely inappropriate. That is one of the problems with the degrees of novelty we are now generating. Much of the rest I broadly align with. I spend time in nature, observing birds, walking the dog, watching the clouds and the ocean. Long term silence is not an option when married to my beloved ;) Enjoy and return with new perspectives.
I would have a week at sea solo a few times a year. On my offshore sailboat. But i just installed starlink. So thats over. The starlink is for weather . But it comes with 24x7 connectivity. Not sure if its going to make life better. Safer yes but better we will see.

In talking about "homo economius" it strikes me that "economics" and "ecology" both start with the same "eco" prefix. I don't know what "eco" means in the original ancient Greek but it must have been something to do with system flows. Economics got split off from ecology at some point where now some economists talk about "incentives" to save ecological values as though you can put a fence and a turnstile for entry to a piece of ecology and charge for entry and completely bypassing and forgetting the reality that economics is a subset of society which is a subset of our biological species which is a subset of the biosphere.
As a clin psych, great to see this stuff being discussed. The only missing piece of the puzzle now is leftist historical analysis and you have the whole pie. Obviously you cannot try to challenge the system without looking into the history of those who have already done so.
I have a strange Theory. Although I do not have all of this hammered out yet I will do the best I can. I begin with our claim of being civilized, this is only a contrived self-definition as we have no reference outside of our own history to compare it too, we are creatures of nature in Forever subject to its rules written into our genetic code, biological organisms are basically programmed to do three things eat mate and kill in defense of the previous two. Nature is a state of Anarchy where all behavior is permitted however arbitrarily acceptable, and operates on a dominance hierarchy in many facets of life. By comparison what we do in the modern world also is a tiered system of dominance the same as natural Anarchy, however we in the modern world create self-empowering ideologies to justify our primitive desire to dominate each other we are the only animal that does this, therefore we are not what we call civilized we are just primitive talking monkeys manifesting the laws of nature in modern times with the creation of contrived ideologies of self-empowerment. We expand and escalate the brutality in modern times justified through contrived ideologies
OK. Forgive me please. I doubted you for a bit. I love what you are attempting. The environment you are about to enter is the environment we can make for ourselves. I read Walden Two. Someone also read it: Kat Kincaid. She started Twin Oaks, Eastwind, and Acorn. Thich Nhat Hanh started Plum Village. They didn't actually "start" these things as much as planted old good seeds. We are all gardeners to be needing better gardens.
As a dopamine addict, I had to learn that "doing nothing" is far from doing nothing. It's healing.

What's interesting is the cells if told soon enough can survive issues, my worry is the shock will be so great because of the hidden messages given to the public about the real dangers, the cells don't have a chance to find a work around

I highly reccomend taking time off. I take 6 months to a year off every few years.
Turn the volume down and hear the silence can be one of the best things ya can do...second before you fall asleep and the second you come out of sleep are reminders of this natural silence.
Already heavy intuitive
Thank for this, Nate.
Hope your retreat/ vacation/ reset is going well!
Much love and appreciation from Germany.
enjoy the retreat! I could imagine spending so much time and effort consumed with this bleak subject matter wreaks havoc on the mind.
Very surprised you are diving into Dick Schwartch. Happy for you!
I suspect you will get so much out of the retreat you will do it every year moving forward. Looking forward to seeing you on the other side.
You might want to interview Nicolas Janni, on all these things. He is a coach and many other skills and expertise. (he was on BBC a while ago)
🤠
Yeah have fun see you then.
Nate, you mentioned funding--have you considered setting up a Patreon? I think a lot of people (self included) would be happy to join
Woah that makes too much sense
Thanks for sharing
My more conspiratorial mind thinks we are kept traumatized adrenalized narcissistic and desperate.
Long term silence is not an option when married to my beloved ;)
Enjoy and return with new perspectives.
Happy retreat 2024 Nate.
Super grateful for you over passing few years.
😀

I would have a week at sea solo a few times a year. On my offshore sailboat. But i just installed starlink. So thats over. The starlink is for weather . But it comes with 24x7 connectivity. Not sure if its going to make life better. Safer yes but better we will see.
Seems to have some resonance with The Compassionate Mind by Paul Gilbert creator of Compassion Focused Therapy. Lovely guy if you ever get the chance to meet him. #DerbyUniversity
Nothing like sitting with your ducks and seeing them line up in a row.
i wish i could share this video to my friends, but they wont watch or think about anything useful or important........
When your microbiome is unhappy, you will feel distressed.
Mettā-crisis is the One Worth Valuing above Üs 🌬️🪬no matter 🌊♾️. Love the insight Nate. Integrate the ၂၀ŸြÜsᶴ⁺₈
and trauma is epigenetic, on top of the trauma of adjusting to this modern society
I’d like to talk to Iain McGilchrist about these brain ideas
Did you hear Nate's conversation with Ian? Another good one is a recent conversation with Ian McGilcrist, Daniel Schmactenberger & John Vervake.
Some wise man once told me to never pass up the opportunity to say nothing. Whoops I broke my own rule!🤐
Don't forget 'fawn' mode!
I've forgotten some other terms that didn't grab my neurons.
There's thousand(s) of vices. Mistaken Souls have good idea of them. Plenty ideas to be wrong.
That looks like a guru hat to me
😄
Sounds really good.
Happy New Year.

Do less and BE more 🌞🤝🌞🤝🌞
Is this a variant of green consciousness?
See ya on the other side, Nate.
I know befor watching its vary depressing and gets worse the more you learn and find out the truth isnt whst you were taught.
Not to sound cynical, but how much is this coach charging you per week, and what wold you estimate his total income to be?
Maybe you will read this in 4 weeks: can you interview Kohei Saito on his Idea of Degrowth Communism?
Obtanium, retainium, explainium.
I had no idea. Happy New Year!
Over again the thought occurs having cut burned and poisoned the Earth, as humans have, the Earth's enteric system is no longer stable.
