      CrooK The statement “Sexual orientation is neither chosen nor changed.” Is a true statement. Or at the very least the evidence suggest this conclusion. Why do you think it false?

    • @merikijiya13

      In between space and time it is knowledge that we can use to learn more about the nature of human beings. Sexuality should be explored more so any information is progressive in the front. For me all truths are tolls that we can use to make humanity better.

    • @justanawkwardnerd
      @justanawkwardnerd 4 роки тому +98

      @In between space and time It serves to give people who fall outside the "norm" of heterosexuality vindication. People who are LGBTQ+ are often punished for being that way, are told they are wrong and are expected to change. Hearing things like this is very freeing in a way, especially when it's something they can hold close to their hearts when dealing with homophobic people in their daily lives. It also lends a way to help them understand themselves better, understanding that they are not the only person who thinks or feels this way, that it is something legitimate and, so to speak, natural. It can help people address homophobia and deal with their own internal homophobia. It's not a political battle so much as it is very much a social and personal one - it's just used in politics as a weapon because of its history of oppression IN politics - at least remember the context if you're gonna say that? 'Cause it's barely understood as a truth NOW. Please don't think this is a political debate as base as being political rivalries when this is a much more personal problem that has ALWAYS existed outside of politics and has always been something that deals with interpersonal relationships, society, and people's sense of identity. That's very trivializing of you, as it's a truth so many have been denied. Just because it's never been something you found important yourself, and only ever found in the context of political battles does not mean it is not actually important.

    I find it really sad that there are a lot of people in the comments being impressed over him mentioning asexuality. Just goes to show how exclusive sex-ed can often be. I was actually shocked when I found out that in the USA not all schools even cover it aside from "don't do it". In the class I was in we were merely shown a lot of educational films from the 80s that obviously didn't cover a lot either.

      Mary Lutton This is just scratching the surface. Dr Lindsey Doe has a whole series that goes in way more depth, particularly on how to be safer with sex like what both barrier and (if hetero) biological methods of contraceptives are needed to prevent disease spread and pregnancy, what to do and what not to do, how to be happier in your relationships, etc.

    • @janeeyre6158
      @janeeyre6158 8 років тому +67

      +Sharier Hazari Gray asexuality covers the gray area between asexuality and sexuality. Along that spectrum includes terms such as demisexual, hyposexual, semisexual, low sexual intensity, asexual-ish, and sexual-ish. Gray A usually includes people who experience sexual attraction very rarely, only under specific circumstances, or at such a low intensity it's ignorable. I guess I fit all 3. I rarely experience it. When I do, it's always been after I formed an emotional attachment. I've usually had such a low drive that it's been ignorable even though the fantasies would definitely be there. Up until a couple months ago
      I never heard of Gray A. So until then I had been quite confused of my sexuality and feelings sometimes. And whenever I had strong feelings for someone it's still lead me to trouble. Lol No I had never had sex or orgasmed. Never masturbated either.

    • @eccentric4923
      @eccentric4923 7 років тому +136

      +Juckle Yes and no. Someone who is bisexual may be interested in both men and women but not someone who is agender or gender fluid. Too those who are pansexual, gender or lack there of does not matter. Pansexual uses the prefix "pan-" because it is referring to ALL gender orientations. Most people who are pansexual, however, simply refer themselves as bisexual to avoid confusion.

    • @coleyblossoms1051
      @coleyblossoms1051 5 років тому +53

      I agree with your definition of Pansexuality as gender does not matter for sexual attraction. However, Bisexuality is attraction to same and differing genders from your own, which includes genderqueer and non binary individuals. Pansexual is under the bisexual umbrella, except Pansexuals do not see the gender in their attraction.

    All of the comments in the top comments are essentially variants on "it makes me uncomfortable to think that people are born with non-heterosexual orientations so I'm going to say that nobody ever is and argue that you're being biased for not pacifying me and making me feel less bad for my bigotry." This, along with the "global warming isn't real, you guys!" people, reminds me of the people who whole-heartedly believed there were scientific, biological differences between the "races" that made whites superior or believed whole-heartedly that the sun revolved around the Earth. Modern science claims otherwise, yet they still cling to their ideals because it's more comfortable than admitting that their beliefs are wrong and based purely on prejudice. Then they say "there is no scientific evidence that people are born gay" when there is plenty of scientific evidence and plenty of ongoing study that suggests that people emphatically are born non-heterosexual.

      BANANASAUCEYUM Why? Your comment sounds like a symptom of America's refusal to talk about race. Anytime race comes up, it's bombarded as "Racist and insensitive" when it does need to be talked about. But anytime it's actually racist. it marketed as "humanitarian concern" or "unbiased government needs" or "happenstance". For an extreme example, look at Clive Bundy, who said on national television that blacks were better off as slaves, because they can't take care of themselves in the real world. FOX news said it was humanitarian concern.

    • @BANANASAUCEYUM
      @BANANASAUCEYUM 9 років тому

      Sam Parekh I'm just saying that because of what the OP said. I didn't explain myself for fear of being branded as racist but they claimed there is no scientific difference between races, whilst there most certainly is.

    • @samparekh3163
      @samparekh3163 9 років тому +1

      BANANASAUCEYUM That is true, but it is entirely cosmetic/evolution-induced survival characteristics (depending how science-y you want to get). The intended meaning was that there is and was no capability differential (except in extremely limited areas, such as basketball, where blacks natural average height advantage helps them) between races.

Not how different it is, as it takes more time for female to reach orgasm that male (10 to 20 mins vs 7 to 14). Also, they didn't talk about trans and cis and bisexuality and intersex and pansexuality and non-binary people.
      Also, when they talked about the periods, THEY TOLD THE GUYS TO GO. Which is wrong. they should know about periods too. About tampons and pads. Pain and blood. So there would be less shame in high school (i was ashamed when i first got my periods)
      They also talk about asexuality and aromantism. Also that some people likes casual sex and it's okay, and that others wait the right one and that's okay too. that sexuality is different for anyone. And very importantly, that girls don't pee with their vagina and about clitoris.
      When i'll be a mother, i will write a letter to the school about it, and will force them to talk about sexuality in a very open way. not just about male orgasm.

      A whole $10 huh? Also what school district did you go to?
      Also when i said a year class i probably should have specified that that was health class overall, and the 4 months were the part of class denoted to sex, reproduction, and male and female anatomy.
      And yes i went to a public school. Not gonna say the teachers were the best. But we did learn alot, not like positions of anything, but alot we did learn.
      We learned(both male and female) about the anatomies of male and female, we learned about the exterior and interior workings, what happens in both men and woman prior to, during, and after sexual intercourse, we learned about condoms, their different sizes, how double bagging does not actually work, about getting the correct size so it does not fall off and all that, what really happens when a woman is on the pill, both with and without sexual intercourse, various female contraceptives they can wear and use outside of the pill, the day after pill, its benefits and negatives, how it works.
      We also learned about the various diseases that go along with sex, how they work, their specific indications, THE IMPORTANCE OF GETTING TESTED!!!!
      But the biggest "DO NOT HAVE SEX, AND IF YOU DO WEAR PROTECTION" thing in the class was when we were forced to sit down and watch an entire video showing the birth process, i will not lie, as a teenage boy, that horrified me to the core and convinced me of protection more than anything else, that and after that they went into minute detail about the financial implications.
      And most of this was taught via those old crappy 80's and 90's VHS tapes cause the school could not afford to update their stuff.

    Everyone in the comments saying that sexual orientation isn't something you're born with because people change their minds, that's not people changing their minds, it's rather figuring out what your sexuality is defined as. Many people struggle to determine their sexuality without actual experience. Oh, and being bisexual isn't just being unsure, it is the legitimate attractions to both males and females. Pansexuality is the attraction to a person regardless of gender (which isn't the same as bisexuality, as a bisexual still identifies with genders). This is almost as bad as having to defend agnosticism as a state of unknowing rather than a state of insecurity..

      But how can you say sex has all these different interpretations, when in the end, sex is something purely evolved for reproduction? Love, is not something special. It is an evolved response. In the end, these extra sexualities are just recreational. They may have deeper psychological roots that bind them to that individual, but still recreational and purposeless.

    Why do people get so angered by other people's sexual orientation? It must be effecting you in some way... does it make you feel less sure if you, yourself are straight? Or did you personally fall for someone who turned out to like the same sex? Or maybe you feel so much pain in your own life, you hate other people to maybe ease your own pain. Either way, don't hate on other people for who they love, it's really ugly an thing to do. There is nothing ever wrong with consensual, unadulterated sex.

      There are many problems with that way of thinking, one of them is the fact that anyone alive can become a victim. Even you. Also there's the lack of empathy that makes me question your mental stability. If we allow people to believe that rape isn't a real problem then people are going to rape. If it's "not a big deal" then why should it matter if they do it? It's nobody else's business, so who cares? It causes problems.

    • @vfrl4fma
      @vfrl4fma 9 років тому +6

      Ah but then there's the issue of whether or not something is unwilling, after all children can say they are willing, though legally it doesn't count. But it varies from country to country. And even if we talk about the same country, how can it not count one day and then it does count the next. And then I could always bring animals into the mix, just to really fuck with you, after all it's pretty clear that some animals are more than willing, does that count? If you don't harm to animal is that okay? After all, wherever morality is concerned, you always have to ask, who or what was harmed? If the answer is nothing can it still be immoral?

    • @vfrl4fma

    • @Aeghamedic

      vfrl4fma
      Moral has two definitions. I'm using it as a synonym for 'lesson'.
      I would also define unwilling as those unable to consent. If they can't say 'yes' then it's definitely a 'no'. If they can say 'yes', but are not developed enough to understand the consequences of that decision, then it would actually be a 'no'.
      Obviously, there would be some scenario's where the consideration has to be a bit more nuanced. But I think a good umbrella statement is "don't feel bad about sex if you aren't harming anyone, whether they know they're being harmed or not."
      And I would include non-consent, or misunderstood consent (i.e. a fourteen year old "falling in love" with a forty year old) as harm. This also applies to having sex in the street. Most people wouldn't consent to being exposed to that, so don't do it.

    • @vfrl4fma
      @vfrl4fma 9 років тому

      Aeghamedic To be clear, I knew which version of moral you meant, I brought it up unrelated to your usage. And I will say I agree with you for the most part. I do still feel bestiality has a slight grey area, being as it's can be extremely clear whether or not an animal want to have sex, for example dolphins have been documented to actually attempt to rape people, so I think it's pretty fucking obvious that's a "yes" on the dolphins part, if the person in that scenario was okay with it, well I can't really tell them off. Sure it's weird and god knows I would want to do it, but then I wouldn't want to go skydiving either so that's hardly a factor. And if in my mind nobody's been harmed I don't really care. There are a lot worse things people can do that actually cause harm, I just feel like I should spend my time caring about those things more.

    Society is obsessed with sex and its almost impossible to not be affected by it, especially if you`re young. Dont let it overwhelm you, society and most people are overrating it to the max. Remember this; everything is balanced, all pleasure will sooner or later turn into an equal amount of pain in some way or another, thats not something you can escape, its a universal law. Dont let society fool you with its illusions, not only when it comes to sex, im talking in general. Question everything, dont do things because you wanna impress anyone, dont do anything that is againts the will of your heart. Society is crazy, Schools doent learn you the truth about how life really works. Nothing is more important than to know how life and the universe works so you can live in the most constructive and positive way possible. Google *Truth Contest* and read *The Present*, its the most important document on the internet, and it will completely change your perception of life when you read it.

    Sex is the entire purpose of life? I don't think so, as wonderful as it is. For most animals it is, but we've completely changed the goal of the game. We choose the purpose the purpose for our lives. We grew a forebrain just because we learned to do more than eat, fuck and survive.

    • @MyBrainVent

      I mean, in reality, reproduction is the purpose of life. The egg's way of making more egg's is by using chickens. All of evolution has been fueled by the concept of growing populations of the same species as much as possible. Even if you don't have kids, your contribution to society will facilitate the growth and development of more humans.

    • @treyshaffer
      @treyshaffer 9 років тому +3

      iamihop Purpose doesn't necessarily imply intelligence. I'm saying that the purpose of living things is to create more living things, just as it has been for billions of years. Purpose is defined as the reason why something is created, and I feel that creating more life accurately describes the purpose of life. It is a self contained purpose if you will. (I think the problem here is using the word 'purpose' because it is a social construct and is difficult to apply to universal properties outside of human existence and opinions)

    • @treyshaffer
      @treyshaffer 9 років тому

      iamihop It is a self-contained purpose. The purpose of life is to continue the existence of life, by doing so in anyway possible. Hard to say though, considering that purpose is a function defined for life.

    • @MissLilyputt
      @MissLilyputt 9 років тому

      He didn't say it was the entire purpose in life but "it serves many of life's most basic purposes" and it does. One of those things is procreating. It is basic to all living things and necessary (for the most part) for the future of humanity. Some may choose not to but many will. Sex also helps many to feel closer to their mate, partner, spouse, etc. Humans may think about the reasons why they choose to have or not have sex the reasons mentioned at 10:28 are still very much true. There are exceptions but that's why they're exceptions not the norm.

    Any reason we get the fetishes we get? Does anything influence it? Or what is the reason?

    • @ti6792
      @ti6792 7 років тому +121

      I think that has to do more with learned associations between an object/thing/etc and sexual pleasure. For example, in an experiment conducted in the 1960s, heterosexual male participants were hooked up to a device that measures how sexually aroused a man is from the amount of blood flowing into his penis. They were then repeatedly shown images of boots immediately followed nudes and the participants eventually showed arousal to the boots alone. Another theory is the gross-out theory. When you're in a high state of sexual arousal, your disgust impulse weakens causing you to find (feet/feces/etc) less disgusting and that changed perception causes you to confuse the line between disgust and sexual arousal, and you like the sexual high from the certain thing it can be enough to develop a fetish and make you want to do it again. Some fetishes develop from just one time of exposure while others take time and conditioning. These are just some theories, though

    • @97ajf
      @97ajf 7 років тому +19

      I've had a foot fetish my whole life, it's been said that they come from a cross wiring between nerve pathways identifying feet and genitalia

    • @TheYazman12
      @TheYazman12 7 років тому +18

      yeah, as 97ajf said, the brain as it is growing up begins to develop links in the brain. A fetish is caused by a person's brain accidently creating a link between in this case feet and the love for genitalia. Of course, different fetishes lead to different links. But in the end it all falls down to the brain forming links with what it finds arousing. Nothing that should be considered worrying or should be shamed, for in the end there is not much that can change it.

    • @PetersonSilva
      @PetersonSilva 7 років тому +19

      Complementing: yes, culture can definitely do that, as loving women's breasts sexually hasn't always been a thing. It's actually quite recent.

    • @Kitty4u
      @Kitty4u 7 років тому +10

      +Peterson Silva That's not entirely true. There are neurological studies that show breast stimulation lights up the same region of the brain as vagina and clitoral stimulation, suggesting breast act as sexual organs. Breast stimulation also increases bonding. It is suggested males are attracted to breast because of the bonding effect.

    YES! Hank, you are the first person that was talking about sexual orientation that mentioned asexuality. I myself am an aromantic asexual. You did forget to mention romantic orientation with asexuality though.
    Aromantic- having little or no romantic drive
    Heteroromantic- being attracted in a platonic manner to persons of the opposite gender
    Biromantic- be attracted to in a platonic manner to persons of both genders
    Paneromantic- being platonically attracted to people of ALL genders
    Homoromantic- being platonically attracted to persons of the same gender.

    I hate how many people are saying crap like, "You choose your orientation". That's bullshit. I didn't choose to be bi. I'm sure anybody who is gay or lesbian or bi as myself, or anyone other sexuality that is not heterosexuality, didn't want to be that sexuality.

      Honestly, I'm Omni ( Pansexual, whichever is more accurate. ) and people say that I can't be, honestly, I've seen girls, found them attractive, I've seen guys, same thing, I've seen Femboys, same for that too, and A lot of other orientations are neat too, so Honestly, for me, over my life, I found that no matter how much I wanted to be " Straight " to fit in, I couldn't, I was Omni And I really couldn't change it, and by now, I can say that I still am. Orientation isn't your choice, it's whatever your brain is attracted to. Your conscious which houses choice doesn't have much say.

    Well, time to start a flame war. To those who say "Why is Crash Course lying about sexual orientation?!" he's telling you what researchers have found to be true based on actual research. (Shocking, I know.) Just because the a general religious belief is contradicted doesn't mean he's lying. It means that we know the religious belief that sexual orientation is a choice is wrong, due to modern science. Sources become outdated, including those which say that sexual orientation is a choice.

    This is why I want to go into psychology. I know I'm not cut out for love and or sex in general (as my last dozen crushes will tell you) however I find it interesting. The entire idea of why we do certain things always interested me and I really would like to research in this field. Mainly to destroy the idea of true love, it's time we stomped out mysticism in the sciences.

    I wonder if there's one about morality with sex
    I got herpes from a partner who'd said they'd been checked and that they weren't sleeping around
    We argued about it and she said its her right as a woman and those were just patriarchal rules to keep her oppressed... Like what am I meant to do with that?
    I'm convinced that whether it's an STI or a gender alteration or any reason that might make someone not consent, you must must must state
    Whatever the case, sexuality and morality aren't as loosely woven as people seem to say these days
    And STIs are on the rise apparently
