- This short video walks you through how to test and replace the EVAP purge solenoid on the 2.0L Ecotec LNF engine which is installed on the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Buick Regal GS. If you have any further questions on how to test the Solenoid or conditions you may encounter with a bad solenoid, please contact us at Tech@ddmworks.com. Thanks!
You should definitely post this on solstice forum this would've saved me 200 bucks in labor for my mechanic to find that problem this seems to be pretty simple
Very detailed step by step showing how to remove that effing hose connection. Thank you
thanks for this video, saved me some searching on the ol internets.
Thanks for the video. Nice and simple explanation without making people feel like idiots. You got a sub from me.
Amen! Free diagnostic code, your video, and $25 just saved me an entire day leaving my car at Firestone and having my wallet drained. Thanks :)
Great video, thanks for the very clear explanations and directions. Fantastic.
thankyou very much the mrs has pontiac solstice clearing the code once a week trying to figure it out excellent well thought out video
Thank you for your useful video! It worked also for my "italian" Opel GT.
GREAT!!!
Thank you so much. I will test my solenoid. I hope that is the problem. That looks easy to fix.
I keep having bad solenoids. The mechanic told me it's likely the charcoal canister & gas cap, but I did some research which tells me there might be something wrong with the vent associated with the canister. Not really sure what to do. I could change this out myself, but I'm not 100% sure.
I have an 06 Solstice and that part and my engine look noyhing like that, can you tell me where mine is located?...my oil dipstick is driver side closer to the firewall
Thanks for the video! I just tested mine and was unable to blow any air through and did not have any loss of pressure...yet my car is still throwing code P0497 in my 2009 Chevy Cobalt...any ideas? I'm hoping it's not the wiring.
Ma quello funzionante e' quello dove soffiando passa aria o quello dove non passa??? Il mio soffio nel capezzolo e non esce aria???
For a Saturn sky 2008 2.4 liter is it located in the same spot as on your Solstice
Well, just an FYI...on my 2008 SKY it is on the back of the engine. I had trouble getting it off so I loosened the passenger side cowl, too off the wiper blade and was able to access it. Then the damn thing would not come off the bracket. Got a length of fuel line and I will hook that up and give it the blow test. From there.......gotta figure out how to remove it. Or just put the new one in and zip tie it to the old one.
Same. I bought the one in video and part is different from the one on car.
i did not drive my 2006 Nissan Sentra 1.8S for 9 months. Sometimes, i have a hard start-up problem, i could hear the crank but the engine would not start up during the first ignition (it takes up to 3 attempts). The battery is a new one, i also checked the contact points of all harnesses. Just replaced the 2 drive belts by myself, but not sure if i have adjusted the belt tensions correctly. If the belts are too tight or loose, will that cause this hard start-up problem?
hello can you tell me plz where is the Canister Vent Solenoid located in my pontiac montana sv6 2005 ,3.5l?
awesome video worked like a charm sir
Is there a simpler way to replace the charcoal canister?
Yes, use a dremel tool to cut a hole in the top of the cover inside the trunk. First remove the trunk liner. There's videos on UA-cam showing how to do it. I changed the charcoal canister in my 2008 Pontiac Solstice with one from rockauto. Very easy
Thanks, Dave!
Just fyi, my evap purge solenoid failed closed. 2008 Sky Redline.
How do you check the Evap canister. My solenoid is fine, but i think the canister is bad, because I can't fill up the tank without it cutting off every 2 seconds
Evap canister is In the trunk. If you have the convertible, you need to pop it open then take the carpet off the "pyramid" hump in the trunk area and you should have access to take things apart to get to the charcoal canister as well as various piping that sometimes gets clogged.
did you replace or not?
Great video Dave!!!!
Great job big help
Dave, does this video pertain to the P00497 code - P0497: Evaporative Emission System Low Purge Flow ?
When the Evap Solenoid goes bad, can it trigger a code p0171?
Did you ever find out if a defective evap solenoid will cause a P0171 code?
Well, once again, a seemingly simple repair went awry. My 2007 Cobalt's EVAP valve did NOT bolt down like the video (it slid horizontally out of a metal bracket), did NOT require a 10mm wrench (it was a 13mm wrench) and had three ports (not including the connector) instead of the two shown on the video. I did test the old valve per the video and proved that my old valve was indeed bad.
+Michael Sheppard Might be different for you. You have the LSJ engine and the one he is demonstrating here is on an LNF which is 08 and up
+Michael Sheppard ; mine has the same setup I have a 2010 Cobalt Sedan 2Lt with auto trans. I haven't taken the part off yet. So far I have replaced the gas cap and the 2 cam sensors - that's the order they came up when AutoZone did the check for the engine light. Its still on and the Evap is the last thing to check, I just hope I finally get to the problem and be done with it. Did you see how clean the engine is on that guys car - that's cleaner than the inside of my dishwasher and its clean.
+Michael Sheppard - I have to admit that because of the thoroughness of the video, changing the valve was still performed easily, regardless of my whining. And as an update, my Service Engine light has since turned off. Woot-woot!
@@johnsandherr1814 Lmao thank you for your comment about the dishwasher, had me cracking up 6 years later!
where is your test showing the use of a vacuum pump?
9V battery to actuate?
I ask because I see a saturn sky in the background
Great video thanks man!
can this cause the car to run for like 15 min the shut off.the turn on again in 30 minutes. i have a 1992 caprice.
Sounds like a bad fuel pump or something fuel related.
Great vid, thank you!
Great video thanks
Yall Rock.
thanks----great job
This is an easy wau tontest it but if it passes the test you arent done. At that point you can get a mechanic to check it. And if they charge too much just replace the part anyways.
thanks for the video...
