  • Grading Star Wars action figures is a new thing for me, so we research how to do action figure grading, why to do it, and we go to a local Star Wars vintage toy shop to have them help us in this process. What do I send for grading? And are they good enough to get graded? Join me to find out!

    Good explanation on why to grade, sometimes one finds a figure that just screams, "Grade ME!"

    I got my first graded item a while back, a MOC Vintage Saga Collection Biker Scout, U90. There is something special about holding the loose figures in you hand, but there is also something special about preserving and archiving mint figures and cards in nice looking acrylic!

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  2 роки тому +1

      I agree Edstrom! Thats why I prefer to have a loose display where I can touch the figures BUT thats why I'm also doing a graded run where I find near mint figures that I want to archive and preserve. Two different disciplines in collecting, but its fun to learn both. Thanks for watching!

    "Ha-ha!" Loved your comment about being buried with your figures, that would be extreme collecting. I'm not in the grading camp and I don't stick my carded figures in those funny plastic shells either - for those who do then whatever makes you happy...
    Looking forward to see what grades you get, and kudos for you thinking of the future when your family sells all your hard work after you've shuffled of this mortal coil 🤘👍🇬🇧

      That reminds me, I NEED to call the shop to see if my figures have come in yet!!! It should be around that time!!! Haha then my fam can see what they have to sell, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting, Martin, always an honor to read your thoughts!

    Those are really nice Sand People! My childhood one is missing the gaffi stick and cape and has a lot of paint missing. I know that it's very low grade, what collectors call a 'beater'. I also have a complete, loose Darth Vader made in 1978 with cape and double telescoping lightsaber from my childhood that I know is in very high condition since it has no paint wear and no easily visible scratches. It is in VG condition. Not mint of course since it's out of the package and I did handle it as a kid.
    I don't need a pro grader, I can look at it under a bright light with a magnifying glass and see the very faint scratches on it. I'll never sell my childhood figures anyway, so it'll be up to whoever is still around after I die to decide if they want to keep them or sell them. If they decide to sell them, maybe, just maybe it might be worth it to them to get the top condition figures I have graded as that might help them get more money for them, assuming that there's much of a market for the figures by then. You never know. There's a hot market for top condition SW figures now, but that hasn't always been the case.
    Another thing about having them graded, like you said, is that they wind up getting sealed in a plastic case. For me, the fun of loose figures is being able to pose them in different ways and you can't do that once they are sealed. If they are still MOC, then they are essentially mint and on display in a case already. Besides, the cards are really cool with artwork that I like. I only have a couple of MOC figures that are truly vintage and I'm sometimes tempted to open them because I love playing with them so much.
    Great video! I love how you integrate images and sounds from the movies into your reviews, yet without making it difficult to understand what you are saying. You're much better at making videos than I am for sure. Good info for someone who is thinking about getting stuff graded.

      I love that you have a DT Vader! I might collect at least one DT figure if I can find one from a trusted seller. I am new to grading so one reason I didn’t mention here is that I would like to preserve the quality as well. I kinda hinted at it with me grading the two mint sand people, but along with trying to get an evaluation to make them easier to assign a dollar value To market price, trying to keep them mint in acrylic was a reason as well. Like I said, it’s sad that you can’t touch them, but that’s why I have a loose display version as well. I think I just wanted to experience the full array of vintage collection to understand it all. BUT I highly think that it’s up to the collector to decide what’s best for his/her collection and how they want to treat their investments into their figures. Thank you for the highly detailed comment, I really enjoyed reading it, and thanks for watching!!!

    Heya!
    Another enjoyable episode!
    I’ve had many a discussion with regards to Grading Figures! Personally, I can’t and won’t do it. My Collection is going to a Toy Museum if and when I expire. Alternatively maybe I’ll be one of the first to bring Pyramids back into Fashion?
    I’m too in Love with the Tactile Nature of Star Wars Figures. It is as you say, the touch, sensation and personally I Love the way that they smell- contemporary Figures don’t have that same smell as the Vintage Line. Different Plastics and Industrial Processes most likely? Besides holding a Figure is a Tear or Orb of the Prophets Moment as I personally am transported back to a day, time, place and season. My feelings and recollections are so vivid! You could ask me about any Figure and I would be able to tell you. That probably has as much to do with my Dyslexia and Autistic characteristics than anything else? Besides my Wife pretty much knows the value of things. Also I’m cynically suspicious of Graders. It’s like Anxiety with Child Separation when they have to go school or they’re out of sight for too long or if they’re playing with a new Friend?! Find out as much about the Family and make sure they don’t have any vicious dogs! Yeah I know, I’m on an elliptical orbit on that one!But I’ve also had discussions about Star Wars Figure Anxiety and it’s Real! Very Real!
    Best

      Yea it’s a huge debate and I can def see why people don’t do it! I think that’s why I want to get two sets. I would hate if I couldn’t just reach out and touch the figures to get that tactile response and emotion out of them

    Yo Joey very cool can't wait to see the grades you get. I started collecting seriously in 2018 right before this plandemic so I'm kind of new to it. I started collecting the vintage collection and I was born in 1970 so I'm 50 years old and I had to go back and start on the the Kenner Star Wars action figures like you are and the prices have already doubled. I also have the Metallica McFarlane that you mentioned on Peg warmers. I have a lot of reaction figures from Super 7 mostly music action figures like Iron Maiden and King Diamond Mercyful Fate Anthrax Megadeth you name it. I have five mint on card Kenner action figures plus about 30 loose and it's been fun collecting now you're feeling me to get the rest of the collection. But that last Seventeen I don't know if I can afford that. I've really been enjoying this Journey with you.

      Thanks a lot DMR! Always good to see you in the comments my friend. I love the McFarland metal line they have, so getting Metallica was a must for me! I started collecting SW figures at a wrong time during the pandemic, but at least you caught the prewave and must have saved a few hundred dollars by not waiting till now. But thanks for watching my friend!

    Hey Joey, I just joined Star Wars Rancor Vintage Toys page today and enjoyed your video. I’ve just turned 50 and want to start collecting all the vintage figures I had as a kid. I really liked your “check off” list on your computer. I think that will help me organize my collection in a better way. Especially since I have NEVER done this before. Did you create that yourself or is that something I can download from somewhere? I’d appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance.

    Hey Joey, I noticed the capes on both Tusken Raiders were turned up at the collar. What's your thoughts on that?
    I don't know how they were 'officially' supposed to be from Kenner or how they were sold in the US but in the UK (from what I can remember) the capes were always turned down at the collar for all of them (Leia, Leia Bespin, Vader, Ben, Lando, etc.) 🤔
    Personally, I prefer them turned down 🙄

    Hey, Padawan great video. I’m relatively new to your journey but I’m up to date on your videos. I love the idea and you may have inspired me to do the same. I have about 30-40 vintage figures from my own collection as a kid. My question is, how did you decide on Collector Archive Services over Action Figure Authority. I have some carded Vintage Collection and Black Series figures I want to have graded so I’m juscurious

      Search Action Figure Grader on UA-cam. I follow his Channel and he was the one that inspired me to grade CAS. It was mostly the way they treated the weapon display by not just taping them to the acrylic. Now AFA have upgraded their cases so you can get the same display treatment. But check out his channel, I think he has a video comparing the two companies. Good luck with your Collection!!! Let me know if you start back up again! And thank you for watching!

    Another great video. Kind of surprised that you sent both of your Raiders in to get graded instead of keeping one for your loose collection, but since there's so mint, I get it. Plus you did end up grabbing a third, so there's that. What are you going to do with your second graded Raider?

    you said "9.0 just fell out of the bubble" -- keep in mind, a lot of figures still on cards, actually have deteriorated and are ugly AF (yellowing/etc) .. I get what you are saying, but carded figs arent always in good condition. And, not to piss in your cheerios, the plastics on these figures do continue to deteriorate with time even after grading. Again, Ive seen high graded carded figures that have shown sign of plastic deteriorating (white film) ... Keeping them in proper environment is a step in the right direction. In other words, a graded figure today, isnt necessarily the same grade tomorrow. It sucks, buts just part of the process

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  2 роки тому +1

      Proper points you have, yes I should have mentioned those too. And yes I’ve talked to a lot of collectors who have graded figures and say to store them away from UV light. If I get a good grade but a year from now it yellows, yea the grade is Gone. So that’s why even for my loose figures, they are going in a dust free, UV protected case

  • @rafaelmmartinez9170

      Hey Rafael! Yes I’ve heard collectors stopping grading. I think that’s why the grading companies are investing so much into their infrastructure and personnel; to get back confidence of graders. Thanks for watching my friend
