Gary pleading with Arthur about feeling alone, feeling small. When, in Arthur's eyes, what he did as Joker was supposed to empower people like Gary. Goes to show, Arthur becoming Joker only hurt the few people who cared about him
4:49 this performance is fantastic. Gary seems so genuine and it makes me actually feel saddened for him when he is admitting how powerless he actually is. It’s the word actually that strikes me as it shows this moment wasn’t just traumatic, it broke his spirit. Idk maybe the gorilla part of my brain that makes me want to protect the helpless
The story is about how tragic someone's life can end up being, like a psychotic person, if they decide to fight against the system and act like a psychopath. This Joker is not the same type of Joker as those played by Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, and Cameron Monaghan, simply because he doesn’t commit crimes out of a lack of empathy; he does it to satisfy his most primitive urges, as he didn’t have the best childhood and didn’t learn to control his emotions, while also losing touch with reality. That’s why Arthur feels guilt or discomfort in the scene with the little man; for the first time, he is valued for who he was before. The previous Jokers wouldn’t have cared because they lacked the ability to empathize with people.
@@Omnivolv It actually is if you have the ability to broaden horizon beyond Batman fights villain, almost loses, but then wins at the end. It's amazingly multilayered and one of the most 'human' films in the superhero/comic book movie genre.
If they didn’t rip Auther from being the orginal Joker or heck even letting HARLEY STAY WITH HIM. It would have been fine. This was suppose to be about Auther finding love. But they said f*ck him and just took everything he gained. Todd really should never work in Hollywood ever again.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but it looks like the point of the movie is to remind us not to be like those who idolized the joker, treating him like a hero when he wasn’t
The last part was very heartbreaking. Poor Gary could have been the best friend for arthur in this rotten society, If arthur just havent ruined it instead.
It never occurred to Arthur to call Gary for a coffee or to just watch TV and hang (he DID however fantasize about doing the same with Sophie, of course because she's beautiful and the fantasy plays into his ego). Arthur's narcissism would never allow him to stop and think about 'the other guy' ironically what he whined about on Murray Franklin. It was all about how the world was cruel to HIM and how nobody liked HIM. Arthur Fleck had a very Elliot Rodger-type personality, too self-absorbed and self-pitying to realize the answer to ending his loneliness and isolation was using the locker next to his. 'Fans' hate this movie because it unmasks Arthur for what he is. A self-pitying, narcissistic, selfish little man.
“Folie à Deux”: A title rich with meaning, suggesting a shared madness between two. It captures Harley’s delusion entwined with his, but it also reveals our own fantasy as the audience. When Arthur turns away from the Joker's legacy, he fractures the dream we all shared. No longer the fearless rebel, he stands revealed as a man, stripped of the myth we once adored. Folie à Deux-a collective daydream woven between Harley and you, the audience. Did you ever truly care for Arthur? Or was it the intoxicating allure of the “Joker” that drew you in? You reveled in the fantasy of rebellion, not in the man carrying its weight. Here lies the brilliance: as the audience turns its back on the film, the art finds its purpose. Folie à Deux becomes a haunting echo of our reality. In the beginning, we see Arthur fleeing the shadow of the Joker, yet by the end, his followers chase after him, pleading, “Wait, don’t go, we still love you.” They cling to the fantasy, blind to his humanity. Harley, too, rejects him, unable to reconcile the jester with the man beneath. And in a cruel twist, his most devoted follower-disillusioned-turns the knife, betrayal born from a dream shattered. Do you not grasp the truth? None of you are ready to ignite chaos or challenge the system. The Joker is your shared fantasy, a reflection of your own desires. You cheered for the rebellion, but when the curtain is pulled back, revealing the fragile man beneath, the fantasy disintegrates, and you, like Harley, turn away. Box office numbers may label it a failure, but as a work of art, it transcends the understanding of the masses-complex, haunting, a masterpiece that compels us to confront not only the myth of the Joker but the unsettling truth of our own complicity in the fantasy. I can't necessarily argue with anyone who has a problem with this movie, because in a sense they are right. It doesn't carry the momentum of the first movie, but in a way that's the entire point. It's about a man who created a character to survive in the world and that character/shadow became too great of a burden for Arthur to carry. At the end Arthur discovered who he really is which is not a murdering psychopath, but a beaten man who at the end of the day just wanted love more than to be "seen or noticed". No it's not necessarily a "comfortable" movie to watch, but in my opinion an important one.
Still can't get over the fact that the films feels like it's trying to be a prequel story for heath ledger joker.....that alone kills it for me, bruh like no build up, just shank and go, pretty much sums up the movie Shank and go
Todd Phillips's directing is top-notch in this scene. 03:21 - The movement of the camera takes us from a real-life audience of Arthur, someone who actually noticed him, to the public in the courtroom, even the people outside, and ultimately the cameras recording him live as Joker. 04:07 - We see the TV live-recording as the ultimate-fulfilled goal of Joker, yet Gary's question slaps him with reality. He even loses the voice. He's Arthur again.
Funny how I lost more respect for Arthur when he was belittling Gary than I did when he killed 6 people. That's the only time I've seen Arthur look remorseful too. And it happens to coincide with him giving up on the Joker persona. Genius film in my opinion.
Gary and Arthur looking at each other at the end of this scene was really sad, especially when Arthur had to hear what Gary wanted to say (when Arthur said "Oh, fuck!"). By far the best scene in the whole film (imo).
That's what I find funny how this is supposed to be grounded and realistic and yet there's so much that doesn't make sense. They sure as hell wouldn't let him in with his makeup either. The movie goes on and on about the riots he's caused as joker so why in God's name would they let him near his followers and a public trial like that? They were asking for something to happen by doing that
Im pretty sure none of this is meant to be taken seriously, its clearly meant to be a form of magical realism/surrealism where despite it being technically grounded its still very fantastical
This movie was so frustrating. It had genuinely good moments like this scene. The acting is great, it looks amazing but Everytime I felt like the movie was getting better or gaining momentum in the story it would pump the brakes with the musical numbers.
The best scene in this bad movie and only scene where we even see the joker lmao. Only complaint about this scene is it feels like he's forcing the joker and even trying to do this preacher accent. In the first joker it felt like Arthur drowned in madness and it felt more natural like he let out all his built up abuse and anger.
@@TheShark94700 He liked it in the first though. It was his escape. It made him confident and it made people finally notice him. So it makes no sense why he wouldn't want to be the joker in this one when it was the best thing that ever happened to him
@@mightguy3118 I think because at the end of the first one, he was completely insane and wanted to give a show. Like he said, he had nothing to lose and then he wanted to kill himself, killing Murray was not planned. Plus, he didn't see the difference between him and Joker because it was Arthur all along. Don't forget that Arthur was under pill in the second film.
@@mightguy3118 Arthur is the man who created mythos of "The Joker" in his universe, he was never supposed to be the man who will embody that role when Bruce Wayne becomes The Batman. Arthur served his purpose in both movies, he was the original, the inspiration and he is his killer's predecessor, and his successor will be a far greater Joker than he ever was in his world as he embodies that role. This movie is way tragic than the first movie from my perspective, poor guy was teased with a brand new beginning and the prospect that there was a person who understood him and could love him, only to be rejected and abandoned by the woman he loved ,he even had to face the fact that he mentally scarred Gary, the only person who saw Arthur as an equal. Both movies are great, this movie extinguished the possibility of Arthur becoming Batman's nemesis and many people didn't like that as they wanted another movie, and the musical scenes were not for everyone.
This is the only scene in the movie that made me cry for Gary feel so bad 😔 this whole film could've been great if wasn't so busy feeling like a Saturday Night Live sketch with all of the ridiculous musical segments JOKER the Musical A pile of a shit for most of the viewing but just this clip alone I loved you really felt his fear of Arthur and what he became oh my.
Everyone (and the people who didn't watch the movie just parroted the same thing) jokes about how Arthur got un-Joker-ed by the prison guards abuse scene but this was clearly the crumbling point of his persona, his delusions, Puddles got through to him. The prison guard scene was more to highlight how he finally realizes what he's caused, further proved by his prison friend who accidentally died because he worshipped Arthur's delusion of Joker and how this accidental movement he created is now hurting people that were like him. Folie a Deux, a madness for two. Defined by the musical parts of the movie, and at the end of the movie, Harley/Lee keeps singing, while Arthur tells her to stop, because Arthur doesn't want to live in delusion anymore. I'm not gonna pretend the film was perfect, it felt aimless at times, musical numbers felt uninspired, but to pretend that Todd Philips didn't have anything cooking there would be delusional (heh).
@ well, thanks one way of seeing it. I think this particular Joker’s purpose was a character study anyway, which restricted him from doing more Jokery things. Though it could end up being just more of the same
@@Artur_0905 I also thought he had some Mark Hamill mannerisms here, particularly in 1:53-1:56 with the way he says "No? Never mind" especially because the southern lawyer accent sometimes sounds like Hamill Joker's Trans-Atlantic accent I just watched this scene not the movie so I don't know what my opinion will be after but generally, despite people calling this Joker a far fetched take on the character, I always thought he had the base of a great traditional Joker if they developed over it. He's the only movie Joker to give us the more theatrical body language like Hamill (I also noticed he seems more confident here than in the first film), thin figure, & clown-ish high pithed laughter like of Hamill's where the others tend to go for a more meancing laugh.
Incredibly tragic scene and one of the things causing Arthur to not wanna be joker anymore. The other being the r*pe scene and the kid being strangled by the guards. He realises it's not worth it. It's not what he wants, it only brings suffering to other innocent people and that's not what he wants.
The excessive self pity feels out of character for the joker. He's supposed to drop all that once he has his 'one bad day'. Seeing him whine about nobody knowing he exists just feels off.
I think the point of this film is to strip away the romanticized idea of an isolated, socially awkward, mentally ill person who, after reaching his limit with society, gives in to his darkest impulses. In reality, that’s all it is... a fantasy. Arthur Fleck is not the Joker from the comics. He’s a wounded individual, acting out in pain. He has no ideology, no convictions-not even a commitment to nihlism. He’s simply a broken soul, hurting others because he himself is hurting.
@@BurntBattleBagel the only way youd get this if you have a very surface level understanding of the film, you're comprehension skills clearly aren't as good as you think. rewatch the first one.. its a natural progression it doesn't even feel like a sequel but just one continous 4 hour film.

2:53 I actually thought, Joker was going to be found "Not Guilty by reason of insanity" due to this questions & answer. Even through accident, Arthur get's the witness to admit that his past actions as 'Joker' didn't correspond with who Arthur was as a civilian, which plays nicely with his former lawyer's defense: The Joker persona takes the wheel when Arthur is in danger. Whether this is actually true or not is irrelevant. Hell even when Arthur retracts all the Joker stuff, that should've also played into his insanity defense because he was a walking contradiction. Ah well....
Gary’s lines at the end of this are some of my favorite in cinema, literally telling him that Arthur was not the most oppressed man in Gotham and that Gary has had it much harder
Poor Gary having to sit in the witness stand in court, testifying getting the business from a former coworker whom he saw brutally murder another former coworker, then being stuck in that apartment having to rely on Arthur to let him out like a doggy, forcing him to relive that trauma.
One of the very few brilliant & incredible scenes in the film. You can see the raw emotion of care between the two even though Arthur is trying so hard to save face, he can't help himself from being hurt for the only person on the planet who ever cared for him. Phenomenal acting. I really wish the rest of the film wasn't a musical & it had much more potential like this scene.
"the joker is me" song is one of the best moments in the film, and it's a musical number lol It's dumb when people call something bad just bcs it's musical
@@rupertjohanson3010I don't think it's the musical numbers that some including myself have issue with but more to do with how they're paced. I felt so bad for Gary during this scene, the fear in the tone of his voice was absolutely heartbreaking and Arthur was just having fun and treating like this was a Joke but in actuality, Gary was the only real Friend Arthur had and he completely scared him to the point of not being able to do anything but live in fear.
Gary is the heart of this film ❤And absolutely incredible acting from Joaquin. He’s going through so many different emotions in this scene, I don’t think people realize. It’s incredible !
I don't like this movie but it does have some fantastic moments. This scene in particular shows Arthur's more narcissistic qualities especially his anger at nobody noticing him before and being upset that Gary didn't see him on the Murray Franklin show
I know everyone’s had their things to say about this movie (and trust me. I do too), but Gary’s terrified shrill voice is one of the most haunting scenes of this year
I loved this movie more than the first. Tarantino is the only name who has publicly recognized this film as the masterpiece it is. On God. If the masses can't see the twisted irony of the musical motifs it's their own 'issue'.
1:50 « he was a bully on me » « he didn’t deserve to die » That’s frustrating when you know both of them aren’t wrong I fully understand why Arthur killed Randall but also I am 💯 agree with Gary, nothing justifying you can’t take someone else life because of bullying.
I love how when Gary says he didn’t deserve to die. Joker is just like ehhhh..idk lol. Randall perhaps didn’t deserve what he got but he was playing with fire
Joker 1: ''you brought me on the show to make fun of me. you're just like the rest of them'' Joker 2: makes fun of gary and realizes he's just like the rest of them
What makes this scene more sad is as Gary is taking the stand he says Hi, Gary. I think he was genuinely happy to see him. Yet Gary was still afraid for his life. Even though Arthur would never hurt him, he sees the joker.
I've seen a lot of memes online saying it was the SA by the Arkham jail guards that broke Arthur. I don't share that interpretation. I believe it was this scene where Arthur realized he became what he always hated. Hence, he drops the Joker act and takes accountability and responsibility for his actions, instead of blaming the world around him.
Notice how in the beginning, the courtroom quietly chuckled when they saw Gary walking in, but as soon as Gary left after his testimony, they stay dead silent.

I like that Arthur was genuinely hurt that Gary didn’t see him on TV 2:22
He deserved a better movie.
People can say what they want about this movie, but this scene was so goddamn good. You can legit see the pain in Gary and Arthur’s faces.
Because this is the only good part about the movie the rest is dog shit.
The acting in this scene is amazing
Hey Cam Monaghan mentioned! 🃏
It’s not that deep 😂

If they didn’t rip Auther from being the orginal Joker or heck even letting HARLEY STAY WITH HIM. It would have been fine. This was suppose to be about Auther finding love. But they said f*ck him and just took everything he gained. Todd really should never work in Hollywood ever again.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but it looks like the point of the movie is to remind us not to be like those who idolized the joker, treating him like a hero when he wasn’t
If it had ended with him in the car with the clown guys, it would have been decent.
I will admit this movie has flaws but this scene did get me emotional.

It’s the Southern Lawyer accent that made this scene hilarious.
So stupid 😂😂😂😂
I was dying in the theater 😂😂
Pretty sure he was mimmicking Foghorn Leghorn
"I say, I say, I'm a big fat rooster and I'm the guy from Knives out" what is Jonkler on about? is he stupid?
This is the best scene in the movie without a doubt. If only every other scene was as good as this.
THIS is Brilliant…..
GO POST THIS EVERYWHERE. Maybe we can still rescue some reputation 😂 Fire perspective and take. 🔥

Still can't get over the fact that the films feels like it's trying to be a prequel story for heath ledger joker.....that alone kills it for me, bruh like no build up, just shank and go, pretty much sums up the movie
Shank and go
Todd Phillips's directing is top-notch in this scene.
Arthur acted towards Gary just like those people did to him.
Gary and Arthur looking at each other at the end of this scene was really sad, especially when Arthur had to hear what Gary wanted to say (when Arthur said "Oh, fuck!"). By far the best scene in the whole film (imo).
Ask legal eagal. The joker is not allowed to get close to the jury and witness.
They were asking for something to happen by doing that
@@Ashtasticle94it’s so bad it’s comical. Todd Phillips must’ve been laughing while writing these scenes
Im pretty sure none of this is meant to be taken seriously, its clearly meant to be a form of magical realism/surrealism where despite it being technically grounded its still very fantastical
Pretty sure we can look at Ted Bundys court appearance
"You were the only one who was ever nice to me". Gary said the exact same thing now what Arthur told him in the first movie
thank God, now I don't need to see this in the theater for the good moments
Easily the best part of the movie. It's the only part that can really follow the character of the first one, that and when he signed the book.
THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE; NOT SURE WHAT OTHER SAW
Edit out the Lady GaGa scene and I'll love it
@@RandomBitterMan she whas great in it too
This movie was so frustrating. It had genuinely good moments like this scene. The acting is great, it looks amazing but Everytime I felt like the movie was getting better or gaining momentum in the story it would pump the brakes with the musical numbers.
I haven’t seen Joker 2. I’ve heard it’s quite bad. But I like this scene a lot.
That's the point, he didn't want to do Joker but Harley and the people wanted him to do it
@@TheShark94700 He liked it in the first though.
Most criticisms of this movie seems to be.... the whole point. Maybe it is a good movie idk
This movie is dogshit, but this scene is actually really good
This is the only scene in the movie that made me cry for Gary feel so bad 😔 this whole film could've been great if wasn't so busy feeling like a Saturday Night Live sketch with all of the ridiculous musical segments JOKER the Musical A pile of a shit for most of the viewing but just this clip alone I loved you really felt his fear of Arthur and what he became oh my.
I actually laughed so hard during this scene, especially Jokers cockney accent. 😂
So damn goofy 😂
Leigh Gill deserves an Oscar nomination for this scene.
EASY the best scene of the whole movie
I loved this scene, it really tested Arthur if he really wanted to be the Joker, I wish the movie was more like this scene.
Joaquin Phoenix unreal performance.
I haven't heard good things about this movie, but damn, Gary's actor made me shed tears when he said he felt so small.
Its good
This is the best scene in the movie? Goodness 💩
I can’t be the only one that felt like in this scene Joaquin was like Mark Hamill
It's an absolute waste that his joker is gone now. Joaquin played an awesome joker and yet Todd never did anything with him
@ well, thanks one way of seeing it.
Never mind" especially because the southern lawyer accent sometimes sounds like Hamill Joker's Trans-Atlantic accent
I just watched this scene not the movie so I don't know what my opinion will be after but generally, despite people calling this Joker a far fetched take on the character, I always thought he had the base of a great traditional Joker if they developed over it.
@@thetrickster6371nah, it's just a poorly written movie with character development made simply as an afterthought
@@BurntBattleBagel the only way youd get this if you have a very surface level understanding of the film, you're comprehension skills clearly aren't as good as you think. rewatch the first one.. its a natural progression it doesn't even feel like a sequel but just one continous 4 hour film.

05:22 you were the only one that was ever nice to me 😢😢😢😢😢
I get the joke at the end of the first film, most of the stuff is real whereas the scenes with his neighbor isn't
And most of the events in this movie take place in his mind since it's 2 years in the aftermath of the first film
The ending of the first film takes place at least 10 years into the future and you have a kid becoming the caped crusader with his parents bleeding out in front of him
And in this ending you have a jokester carving his own smile while Arthur is spilling his own guts out
If you go with that head cannon not only you can forgive the film but understand its own mindset
Best scene in the movie
2:53 I actually thought, Joker was going to be found "Not Guilty by reason of insanity" due to this questions & answer.
Even through accident, Arthur get's the witness to admit that his past actions as 'Joker' didn't correspond with who Arthur was as a civilian, which plays nicely with his former lawyer's defense: The Joker persona takes the wheel when Arthur is in danger. Whether this is actually true or not is irrelevant. Hell even when Arthur retracts all the Joker stuff, that should've also played into his insanity defense because he was a walking contradiction. Ah well....
Although not perfect, I’m under the impression that this movie will grow a little cult over time.
Gary’s lines at the end of this are some of my favorite in cinema, literally telling him that Arthur was not the most oppressed man in Gotham and that Gary has had it much harder
I think most of the people who criticise this movie, didn’t even see it.

Such a great scene
Joker 1: ''you brought me on the show to make fun of me. you're just like the rest of them''
Joker 2: makes fun of gary and realizes he's just like the rest of them
What makes this scene more sad is as Gary is taking the stand he says Hi, Gary.
I think he was genuinely happy to see him.
Yet Gary was still afraid for his life. Even though Arthur would never hurt him, he sees the joker.
Absolutely fantastic acting, oscar worthy
The rest of the film was shit, but his acting was incredible
He sounds like Tom Hanks

It's the best scene of the entire movie and Leigh Gill deserves the Oscar for this brief but memorable appearance. Gary spoke for all survivors.
