Hi, enjoyed your replays of Shaun at the peak of his powers. He was in his late teens early 20's when most of this was played so had all of his blistering speed and side stepping ability. He is still playing, at age 32, for the New Zealand Warriors, the only New Zealand team playing in the Australian NRL competition. Shaun has lost some of his speed, as we do with age and injuries He has replaced this on the field with skill in play management and generalship and is still a top player in the competition. He played briefly for the Cronulla Sharks in Australia but has returned to the Warriors again last year. Shaun holds the club all time record for the most points scored, 917, and ranks amongst the club's leading try scorers. Shaun has played 32 times for New Zealand's International team, the Kiwis, during which he scored 14 tries (4 points each), Kicked 83 goals a mix of conversion and penalty kicks (2pts each) and 1 field goal (1 pt) for a total of 223 points, as well as setting up many scoring opportunities for others. His playing position is half back, and while New Zealand has had many fine half backs over the games history, a strong argument could mounted that Shaun was the finest attacking halfback ever. As an aside, Rugby League is very similar to Gridiron the major difference being that passing between players the ball must travel backward. Tackling, from the shoulders down, is the same. Gridiron has 4 "downs" to make 10 yards while League has 6 "plays" with the ball, (no distance requirement) before handing the ball over to the opposition. Typically for League this means carrying the ball by hand for territory until tackled 5 times, and on the last play kicking for distance if you have not scored. Unlike Gridiron penalties, where yardage is just given, League requires a kick down the side line for territory. In both games if close enough to the goal post a kick may be taken. In League after a try is scored the team takes the conversion attempt in line with where the try was scored not directly in front of the posts as in Gridiron. Also in League there is only one squad of 13 on field and 4 reserves which covers both defence and attack not 2 squads of 1 defence and 1 attack as in Gridiron. If you score in League the opponent restarts play with the kickoff, the opposite to Gridiron. Hope this helps with your enjoyment of Rugby League.

Shaun Johnson plays for the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL competition. He will be 32 on the 8th of September 2022. Sadly, he is getting a bit injury prone, so who knows how many more games he has in him. I'm not going to try and explain everything, obviously, but here is something to consider regarding NRL (Australia). Because there are only 4 replacement players on the bench (12 substitutions during the game - 2022 rules), and the NRL try to reduce the number of stoppages during a game, players, particularly the big guys, can get a bit tired if they have been working hard. Add in the fact that Shaun is a quick, skillful player, and you have other players in motion that can receive the ball from him, and you can get the defenders looking pretty foolish at times.

Bro Shaun Johnson is one of the masters of the sidestep. If not the best. Before he played NRL he played at the highest level in Touch rugby. Where you only have to be touched for the run to be over, and you have to play the ball again. Please react to his touch highlights because theyre insane, its an even faster paced version of rugby so youve got to really pay attention, and if you do react to it; one rule that i would say to keep an eye out for is that you cant score a try until youve passed the ball to a teammate at least once. So that might help the plays make a bit more sense. Other than that, its just about sidestepping the fk out of ppl, and not being touched. Pls react to it, im sure you will respect the skill, and it will also help you understand why he was at that level of "juking" 💯☝🏽❤️

I would say NRL is similar to NFL but there are some differences. Main differences in NRL you can only pass the ball backwards to your own team, you must ground the ball over the Line to score a TRY (similar to Touchdown in NFL) , you have 1 team of 13 players plus 4 interchange players so the same players are attacking and defending throughout the game whereas in NFL they have attacking and defensive players. When a TRY is scored the goal kicker must kick the Goal from directly in line from where the TRY is scored so If they score out on the side of the field the kick for extra points is a lot harder. That is why you will see the players try to run nearer the goalposts to score the TRY to make it easier for the kicker. NRL is the normal season Competition. State of Origin is a 3 match Series between the 2 main Rugby League States , Queensland (QLD) & New South Wales (NSW). So each State selects the best players they can from the NRL Competition for those 3 games.

yeah, he's still playing, after playing in Australia for the Sharks, he's back at his old team in NZ, the warriors. he is a bit older and slower now and unfortunately doesn't have the same impact as he had, when he started out. he had a serious leg injury a few years ago, which oylut him out of commission for a while, and he never truly recovered from that... personally, I thinks he's confidence took a knock when he got injured and mentally he is always wary of the leg, which inevitably affects his performance... its been hard for him the last few years, because of the initial introduction to the sport and the world, there was loads of pressure on him and still is, esp back in NZ. where he's expected to still be the same player... loved this video man, dig the reaction. you should check out some of the rugby in steppers though as well, esp 7's.

05:10 About the tackles - I think you were getting rugby mixed up with AFL (below the shoulders and above the knees). In both rugby codes, anything below the neck is fine... can go as low as their feet if that's all you can get (tap tackle)

U perfect stepping by playing touch, that and some people naturally have a good step/juke. Shaun steps off both feet at any time and can double and triple step and so on. Mostly he gets a desperate arm as he steps the players, even tho he’s had the injuries etc and hot and cold performance later on, he’s Dazzling when on form ,,,,and has saved the warriors many many times with his gameplay and equally good teammates that gel together, that and he has wheels, is a recipe for a try scoring machine 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿☝️☝️☝️☝️🌴☝️🤘🤘🌏🤘🤘🤘🌲
