This has been my experience too. There is only a thought (sometimes) of "making a choice," and sometimes the thing "chosen" is seen to then happen afterward, and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes there is no sense of making any choice at all, and without any fanfare, the body just suddenly gets up and does whatever errand, chore, or action "needs" doing, without any thought. After a lot of observing I'm learning to trust and just go with the flow. It's weird learning to live in perpetual freefall--subjectively--and yet see everything just working out however it needs to, even with "my" apparent participation. What a trip! This movie of life is so interesting.
the main thing I keep noticing whenever I make any kind of resolution in life is the universe will ruthlessly test you afterwards with "are you sure?" tests. you could be chasing a relationship or experience and never get it. you give up. the next day you'll face the opportunity with the "are you sure?" of the universe. so far this has happened every time I have made a choice in life. it's kind of funny tbh

But recently, since my Mom died, I’ve found myself trying to control my eating in a bid to take back some control of my life, but the more I try the more I fail. I can’t stop over eating and that brings more suffering. I need to surrender and stop fighting it. Trust it’s serving some purpose right now. also try overeaters anonymous (12 step meeting). It has given alot of support and inner realizations to people. the 12 steps is one of the highest spiritual practices that exist if its really taken deeply because its balanced-- it deals both on practical AND spiritual level (very rare).
Yash I've been struggling with the concept of free will and destiny a lot. Throughout my life I consciously sabotage the things I care about most. Whether it's relationships (platonic or otherwise) or just goals and passions. I always push people away and count myself out, thankfully my life still had it's moments and I haven't hurt others like I hurt myself. It's hard to forgive myself when I've hurt myself for so long, and it's hard to surrender and trust the universe/God when it's made me this way. Every time I've come close to letting go, or at least what I thought was letting go, I fall back in the cycle of self hate. Self inquiry helped me to see my patterns and how I'm to blame but I let my mind use that information to abuse me even more haha. I guess my main point here is how can I accept my destiny when I've been my own abuser? You'd think it'd be easier to accept than if I'd used my free will to suppress myself but it's worse. I tend to take it to the extreme positive or negative side because "it'll all work out how it's supposed to anyways", either giving up or just expecting good things to happen to me. I feel like God's trying to teach me some profound form of forgiveness, and that if I could let go the rest of my life would make up for all I've wasted. I just can't seem to get to that point, and the more time I spend focused on this the more shame I feel for not having lived my life. I don't know if I've explained myself well enough or if it's just too much to sift through, but I had to reach out somehow. Your videos have been helping me a lot and I can't thank you enough for posting them. I've been questioning this reality since I was little and it used to be super fun. I'd like to get back to that place of healthy introspection and admiration of life instead of feeling like it's do or die.

My favorite movie about Free Will vs Fate is the ultra classic Lawrence of Arabia. Lawrence is a man with a strong belief in his will power and the movie throws him into a world that puts that belief to the test.

Hi Yash! Thank you for this video! The more I contemplate the nature of thought, the more I realise, that even small choices we make are imaginery, illusion. If thoughts are not ours and based on those we are chosing, than who is to make the decision. Even when you start been very aware, I do not feel awarenes it self is making the choice. Yes you have the intuition kick in it that level of development, but again, who is to decide base on what, you just follow. I remember somewhere I read scientist discover brain aria for chosing is activated 6 seconds before the thought comes. This movie you mention have a lot of obvious and meta aspects, depending on the momentary prespectives you have when approch it. Like the small prince book, you may find more and more everytime. Great work of infine wisdom, it remind me of what is going on in my head, the gardian mind which give you thoughts to keep you in the matrix and the magnetic call of intuition becaming stronger and stronger, which suck you back to the sorce. These are clearly not all about free will, but such equal beautiful creations of the human experience.
I remember fighting destiny, It is possible at the least. Free will does exist, but it also mixes with destiny. It’s like a school schedule. During the time, you can do whatever you want, but the time for recess will inevitably come, same with lunch, but you can still do whatever you want. Even at the end of school, you can do whatever you want. But those times will come, recess, lunch and the end. The ultimate destinies are ordained by God, such as the recess, lunch, and the end of school, times. But lesser destinies can be avoided, such as fights or injuries. I do think with the power of the angels, and Gods intervention, you can avoid some destinies, but the ultimate destinies coming from God, are inevitable. Free will is a beauty from God, even though there is Destiny, there is also our own will. It mixes together. But also, when you fight destiny, and you do win, God can show you that sometimes what you fight for isn’t as good what you thought it will be. Gods destiny for you is good, Fate is kind, we must remember that, so what God destinies for us, is kind! But you can indeed fight, but God will indeed show you what he has planned for you, and what you can miss. But I do personally think that boys death in the yogis story could be avoided. I really don’t think it was an ultimate destiny, it was rather just a possible reality that was most likely to happen, but with the efforts of the yogi, the father, and some angels. The boys destiny could’ve been avoided

There's universal destiny and laws but we have choice every single moment of every day Yogananda himself talks about it in chapter 16 in Autobiography of a Yogi "Outwitting the Stars". A man who goes back to his highest nature is the absolute creator, still in Harmony with universal laws.
It’s a complex subject to discuss with the mind and words. Theres so many levels of perception of something thats being said. And masters contradict themselves and other masters all the time. The real truth can’t be encompassed in words-- hence the seeming contradictions.

Every action is preceded by a thought...and thoughts have a life of their own. 20-30 years ago I had a conversation with Prof. Dr. Lueder Deeke. he and his master Dr Kornhuber have discovered the so-called "readiness potential". Later Benjamin Libet (Libet Experiment) worked with it. The "ready potential" states, that thoughts are already there (1/4 second before) before we usurp them. In short, a thought comes and we say "I think". The cosmic joke: Deeke (also Libet) don't believe in their own discovery. They say (like you), we can still agree or disagree with that thought....this 1/4 second gives us room for improvisational ability ... but they forget that agreeing or disagreeing is again a thought we cannot determine ! In other words, we did not create the body-mind organism, how should we be able to determine anything? Everything, really everything, is an automatic self-generating process in which the human being serves only as a tool. The wave has no way of being different from that what is. She cannot change their way. The script is written. Yes, we are robots..."The show is running by itself, so what..that's cool also" you would say...:-)))

It scares me to think well if one day I’m gonna kill my dog or someone I can’t change that ya know. Pretty insane. Life is the most insecure thing there is your right. I don’t feel secure in my life in any moment I could face homelessness and being on probation with an ankle monitor. But I just had to let go of the fear because it’s not worth the fear. Like you cannot be secure here…. Everyone’s running around tryna create security not even enjoying life. Maybe here and there they do but not really.
