Which is basically nonsense. Most people are taught by society to escape from real life, not to look pain in the eye but to pop a pill, take up religion or some other equally superficial nonsense like meditation.
So to begin with, most people are not conscious of how they have come to be what they are. Therefore, any suffering they inflict or experience, is not so much them doing or feeling but what the parents, family, peers, society, has made them. What is self but memory? So where does the cause lie, how far back?

This brings tears Thanks Eckheart. My brothers served time in prison for stealing to get drugs. They both passed on, the younger one that I didn't visit cause was mad with him for stealing a cheque from my neighbours post. I didn't know, I didn't understand addiction, he was not a bad person but was unwell. The next time I saw him waa in a coffin, he was 26. It's beautiful that your going to visit the prisons. My brothers were beautiful, but had a lot of pain in their early lives more than I'll ever know. God bless the work🙏

So sorry about your brothers. That’s tough. I have a family member who is an addict and is 34 now. He is tormented by the drugs. Actually tormented. No one would choose that life on purpose. He’s in prison until January and we can only hope he doesn’t go back to it. He was raised by a mentally ill mother who was a good mother when she took her medicine but often didn’t. He had no structure to feel safe. Drugs deceived him in to feeling good. It’s so sad for families.
@@angiepanjie Thanks Angela, didn't know of AL-Anon, a 12 step program for family and friends of alcoholics at the time, there's also Naranon I think that's what it's called, but found Al-Anon later TG. It's been a Godsend 🙏

Eckhart Tolle's take on free will is spot on:
"On the level of egoic unconsciousness, you are a conditioned entity-your mental-emotional makeup is totally conditioned by the past-and you are completely identified with the conditioning of your mind. In that state-that, spiritually speaking, is the 'unconscious state'-it is obvious that there is no freedom at all because you are forced to act out the unconscious conditioning of your mind with which you are completely identified. Your actions are determined by your conditioned mind. You are forced to act as you do because there's no choice-choice would imply some awareness.
Then awareness comes in. The human being begins to awaken. Then it appears-I'm not saying it is the case, it appears-that freedom begins to be a possibility because you can choose to step out of the conditioning of your mind. You can recognize a conditioned thought, and you are no longer compelled to act it out because there is an awareness there. You can choose a certain course of action-not from the conditioning of your mind, but from presence. So, you can act and you have much more freedom, that before you could not have. Freedom comes with awareness.
So, relative to the unconscious state, there is now freedom to act. But if you look more deeply even there on that level, you are connected with the totality of consciousness. You're only an expression of the totality of consciousness. You are not really a separate entity. Was it Alan Watts who said, 'In the same way that the wave is something that the ocean is doing, you are something that the whole universe is doing'? You realize that even there, one cannot say that you are choosing this. You are expression of consciousness, and consciousness, one could say, is 'choosing'-and you think you are doing it.
So, in relative terms, there is freedom relative to the unconscious state when you become more conscious. Even there, there is not absolute freedom because you do not exist as an independent entity. You are part of the web of interconnectedness that is the whole universe. So, in that sense, there is no freedom of choice of the individual because ultimately there is no individual."

We are all free to think in an attempt to come up with AN answer to explain what is in reality unknowable to everyone, or we are free to accept what is truly unknowable to us all equally and simply get on with and enjoy this wonderful experience with a heart full of trust rather than a head full of unanswerable questions. Every time we convince ourselves that our or anyone elses opinions, ideas and beliefs about the unknown are facts, we have swapped peaceful acceptance for an egotistical need to fill in the gaps with AN answer rather than the be comfortable with not knowing at all. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

To me Earth is a school room I am a spiritual being so I made a plan before I embodied what classes I wanted to take and so on . Still everyday I have to make a choice to go to "school " and either follow the popular kids ( mass consciousness ) hangout with them or go study with the nerds like Eckhart and many others and learn my lessons so I can graduate out of here. Free Will Reigns Supreme .

Well the tricky part is that consciousness is nobody and everything at the same time. You are still reasoning on a level that makes it look like Consciousness is some kind of individuality that can say yes to some things and no to other things. It would be like saying that spaceciousness can choose where to exist and where not to exist. But spaciousness can only be, it can't choose where to be or not.
In a few simple words, the spiritual teacher E. Tolle answered the question that has been tormenting us - about free will - for centuries! I also believe that for those who commit crimes, nothing is better than listening to E.TOLLE's teachings. These people fall into the gravest unconsciousness, hurting others and above all themselves. If a glimmer of light is still lit in them, this is the only way to save them, thus also saving our communities.

@@abluecanoe Prison realities are very difficult. They are a world apart, a bit like hospitals. Even those who orbit around prisons and hospitals (two places of greatest suffering) are unfortunately and very often very greedy, incompetent and superficial they don't care about others's suffering I don't want to offend anyone, I simply observe.
There is therefore immense suffering in these two places, but our society partly out of economic interests and partly out of total incapacity do not know how to deal with it....I am convinced that Tolle's teachings would help them to use all this immense pain and make it become AWARENESS . It would be a REAL help, the rest is very often fake!

Interesting perspective on free will. “Freedom comes with awareness”…perfect! Right now I have the free will to choose presence over subconscious monkey chatter… there.. it is done…. I can choose to do shadow integration work and use reprogramming techniques over being a victim of programming and my own ego..
The common person will use circumstance as excuse for why their life is not working.. the spiritual warrior will take responsibility for everything right or wrong in their world no matter what was done against them because we know in this interplay of consciousness we created everything in our world both individually and collectively and we have the ability to change our frequencies (it starts with presence) to change what circumstances and people we attract into our lives and change our lives to better match our ideals.
Yea they are confusing the relative with the absolute and trying to bypass by not learning from the experiences in the mirror of consciousness

Really, how is he helping anyone, that's just delusional. He's taken bits of Buddhism, bits of Advaita, bits of all the modern gurus, bits of pop psychology, this whole mismatch is just nonsense. It's not like he's investing things to aid people's real needs, like new efficient ways of heating one home, etc.
Great explanation. No true free will doesn't mean we don't have responsibility to try our best to release ourselves from our identifications and help others realize their unconsciousness
it doesn't mean we shouldn't choose to take that responsibility on, but the responsibility is not innate, it is selected due to preference
It's obvious we don't but we don't want to admit it because of alllll the implications. He mentioned one in particular but there are thousands. If you just realise we are insignificant and if we disappeared from the universe nothing would happen you start to understand what's happening.

Having been in prison before what a delight it would be if a ray of light like Echart visited.. Wow..
You should listen to Sam Harris' (a neuroscientist and somewhat philosopher) on Free Will as well. He's also written a book on it. He believes that we have NO Free Will and has very good (and somewhat different arguments than Eckhart here) arguments to explain it. Like for example: we don't choose our parents, we don't choose our genetics, we don't choose all the current conditions in the Universe, etc. that all point you to a "decision" you didn't (really) make. But listening to him talk about these things is very comforting for someone who's made a lot of dumb mistakes and "choices" in my life. We only have the illusion of Free Will.

Even that is good for the dying person as each tiny fraction of awakening state feels like eternity. The only unfortunate thing is that the person could not share the love one feels at that moment with others. However one can do a lot within a couple of hours (of eternity !).

I have definitely been pondering this one for a while as it feels like I have been walking a predetermined path to have a set experience or lesson. The phenomenon of “Synchronicity” seems to reinforce that when things fall into place when on the path… Either way not knowing the outcome of things gives the illusion of free will like watching a movie for the first time
Definitely. The problem I find is that it's like thinking you were a character in the movie your whole life till that point when you realize you were sitting in the theater spectating the whole time.
He said, " ultimately there is no individual " well, Isn't it an individual saying that, realizing that? A truth is that which is realized to be true, but a realization is something personal that's why it's your truth. So if you say, " ultimately there is no individual " you are realizing that personally and expressing it personally through your own individuality.

I have been exploring Sam Harris and his views on free will. He is on the right track, but he could benefit by watching this video. Eckart Tolle is a gifted and beautiful soul. His simple and compassionate views on free will give us hope. Bless him for speaking to those imprisoned due to

Fascinating. It seems to me that universal consciousness will punish us or cause us suffering when we are not acting in a way that is conscious, loving, peaceful etc. And this suffering almost forces us to change or we will continue to suffer. So, universal consciousness changes us by giving us positive or negative feedback (karma). So ultimately, we don't really have "free will" but karmic consciousness brings about awareness which forces us to change lol :)) So, I would say when we have awareness then we can choose to repeat old unconscious behaviour or choose the more conscious path, so we do kind of have free will lol :)) Its very complicated but I understand what Eckhart is saying.

Sometimes there can be physiological reasons for acting out evil things, like brain cysts /tumors. Sientific research found that people changed behavior after they got cysts in parts of their brain which is controlling their feelings/behaviors. Its very complex
"Free will" itself, as a concept, is IN ERROR.
Each time the appearance of choice arises within consciousness, it projects the illusion of a separately existing entity - the ego.
But there is no separately existing Self even TO make decisions given the choices that appear in thought form
So the concept of "free will" is a play by Maya that projects the ego.
To be truly free is to be transcendent of CHOICE ITSELF. A choice is a limitation on the pure potential that is true Self. Pure, undifferentiated Awareness is

@@Ekzit21 Yes it is not of your making - you never consciously designed such pattern of behaviour. However, by identifying with it and acting it out, your level of awareness have not risen above it. So, instead of trying to stop a pattern of behaviour which you do not instigate, you should aspire to be more conscious (aware). This will eventually help you to see those behavioural impulses as separate from who you are and lead to disidentification.

. A womens prison! You are so awesome! I would have loved to hear you when I was in jail! It was magical, we all held hands in a circle and prayed! I had never been to jail, so I’m not sure if that is the usual experience or not that I did have, but it would have been over the top if you showed up to pray with us 💙💙💙 or meditate or whatever you will do there. I'm 55, I can tell you that all my decisions were more like hiccups, laughs, or burns than any consciousness.
We can only act in accordance from the level of consciousness we’re at, so on the relative level of making apparent choices, our ability to behave differently depends entirely upon allowing our level of consciousness to expand to encapsulate a broader circle of wisdom, then we can act in accordance with it
So one description could be that freedom of the will is available, on a sliding scale, and depending on levels of conscious awareness? Also quite often people seem to conflate ‘caused’ with ‘control’ which confuses the topic
Consciousness is the "All-In-All; the "Everything". That being the case, We are the "Everything", and therefore We are Consciousness. And.......We do have "Free Will". This is understood once we let go of the dichotomy between Creator and Creation.😊👍🙏

In order to enlighten the scope of such discourse we must define "Knowledge." There are two types of knowledge: 1)A Posteriori knowledge which is based on empirical facts. 2) A Priori knowledge which is given to a being at birth inherent in his/her genetic sequence. This is in relation to the fragmentation of particle dilution which exists in a being's coding. God allows humans to do the greatest of good or the greatest of evil. This is the result of the soul (20 below strings) being infinitely elastic. The issue of "free will" is correlated to whether a being will act in manner antithetical to his/ her nature. The freedom to "Choose" is not incessantly binding to the freedom of exercising that choice. A human being's choice to "act" has been pre determined by a set of variables which govern the construct of particle depth. Consequently, the choice has been made prior to the act itself.
