- Inside Africa's Largest Floating Village! (GANVIE) is a video about me exploring Ganvie which is a lake village in the Benin Republic, Africa, lying in Lake Nokoué, near Cotonou. I take a trip to this village and explore how people here live. With a population of around 45,000 people, it is probably the largest lake village in Africa and is very popular with tourists. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for things to do in Benin republic. Do like, watch and enjoy.

I have been to Ganvie and it is a sight to see! There is so much to see in Benin - a beautiful country. Didn’t know that it is bigger than Makoko village in Lagos. Well done Taiyo. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
What took you there?
I said am not going to watch UA-cam today because I don't have enough data. But immediately Tayo notifications showed up. I can't resist. Let me grab my Pop corn

The same water is used for toilet, for drink, for shower, for garbage, etc...

The Makoko or Nzulezu of Benin not Venice of Africa 😂
Wode maya, they are the same people living Makoko 95 % are benin republic
@@edigeorge548 He meant we don't have to be using European city as a yardstick in this regard. Wode Maya is a pan Africanist!
I believe he said this- to give Americans a frame of reference - but now i have to go search The Makoko or Nzulezu of Benin 🏃🏿♀️🏃🏿♀️🏃🏿♀️
True!
What? Nzulezu is not in Benin I beg
Our Yoruba family lol, it's fascinating mixing yoruba with french like when you pronounced the price in English and she had to say it in french.
😂😂😂 I was struggling to understand the French
@@TayoAinaFilms 😂
Your so open-minded nice point u picked up
They actually have their native language.the youbas are actually a tribe there and their dialect is quite different from the Nigeria yoruba.I speak one of the languages which is Ogu alada
But I was born in Nigeria,Badagry so lol yeh
Also not all them can speak French fluently just like some Nigerians can’t speak fluent English.so they speak pidgin french
And Nzulezu in Ghana, 🇬🇭 Ganvie in Benin 🇧🇯 and makoko in Nigeria 🇳🇬
Yessss
Tayo when next you go to Ghana kindly cover Nzulezu. Would love to learn about their history of their existence and what life is like of people in that community from You. Do us the honor in future 🙏🏾
Three books were written in the 1800s "The Tshi speaking peoples ", "The Ewe speaking peoples", and "The Yoruba speaking peoples". They give you a a comparative history of these three groups along the western coast

Thanks for showing the world this amazing floating village. You work is encouraging people to venture to these amazing places due to your content.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Appreciate you taking the time to comment!
You sure are!
This is a Photographer's dream ... 😍 all i see is a collection of beautiful pictures of people just living their daily lives in Ganvie .
For real.
If they know their stuff, they will blow the world with images from this place for days.
This is unique and outstanding content! 😎 What a joy to hear of African people who evaded capture as slaves because of their strength and ingenuity. 👏🏼 It warms my heart to see the people of Ganvie maintaining so much of their original culture. Thank you for this enlightening video, great work! ☺️ Greetings from Southern California, USA. 🇺🇸👋🏼
There are many sites of refuge in Africa where people evaded capture into slavery. Mountainous areas were common places of escape. The Akoko region of South Western Nigeria had many settlements in the surrounding hills as the region was constantly raided by different armies for slaves. The Atakora hills in Ghana also served as refuge from slave raids.
@tayoaina have been waiting please drop more videos of Benin
I was just reading about Ganvie last night Tayo and here you've dropped a video about it. Thanks. I didn't realize it was soo big. And it's great that you added the history of the town as well. I love the ingenuity of their floating hotel and their carvings
Ikr. A floating hotel, how cool!
I just have to applaud Tayo for this world class documentary. Quality sound, quality pictures
Thanks so much Mr. Aina watching all the videos you did in Benin Republic 🇧🇯 really brought a lot of joy to me honestly, because my mum is from there and all her family lived over there, she has no one here in Nigeria except my dad and us (her children) . She visits Benin once in 2 years or more, and we the children barely visit. Seeing this video, men i just want to explore all of benin and get more closure to my families over there too. Thanks So much sir.
These videos makes our days better
It brings me back to 90s when I first visited the island what a nostalgia thank you for the video Tayo for good work and your passion for Africa.
It's heavenly...I love West Africa
It is black art and culture. Other parts of Africa are cool too :)
Thank you Tayo 😊 this is so good to know. And thanks for exchanging Yoruba with that banana lady 🖤
😁😁😁
So nice to be introduced to another historical part of Africa. 🙏🏽🙏🏽. Venice in Africa 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
There's a place in Asia that's pretty much like this, the name escapes me right now, but they attract millions of tourists annually. I'm not saying this place should become a tourist trap, but it's sure got a lot of potential.
Another cool thing about African countries that I love is how the average person speaks 3-4 languages.
Thanks for another incredible video bro. Now I want to go visit Ganvie.
Yes, I know exactly what you’re talking about and that’s the first place I thought about when I saw this video.
The country I believe is Thailand and Damnoen Saduak is the most famous water market.
Tourists especially from Europe and America's bring alot of bad habits to local villages . . If the villagers are happy and comfortable let them stay that way
This video is giving me vibe. I'm definitely going back to visit Benin and will visit here. Thanks for all Tayo♠️
Ooh how I wish I can travel and explore the whole of Africa .one day is one day
Tayo its the same people at Makoko Lagos lagoon. Same people at Nzulezu Benin republic, some tribe in Benin Cotonou are Yoruba speaking, we were separated by maps.you can paddle your canoe from Lagos to Cotonou within ours.
TRUE 💯👍
But how did they get to Nzulezu which I understand is in Ghana. That one is confusing me
Loved it! The fusion of French, Yoruba and English. The ambience, the people. I'll love to visit it one day. Oh and it's "Oui" for "Yes" not "Wi". You're doing an amazing job! Thank you Tayo. Merci beaucoup.

Wow, beautiful. This should be my next travel destination. 😲
Welcome to Benin Republic bro , you are doing well
I will definitely visit someday
It's so nice that Yoruba is spoken in other African countries Amazing!
This is Benin. They have Yorubas in that country who are indegenous
They have indigenous Yoruba population in Benin Republic.
Because you guys are talking about colonizers borders, get real
A very honest presentation. Well done Tayo and keep it up.
Nice one
O my! Tayo, this wad Amazing to watch.
I think you should submit it to the CAN festival competition under documentary section. 👌🏾👌🏾
If I’m counting well, the banana 🍌 seller is speaking 3 languages already 😅🔥
That is mind blowing. And her fluidity or change was just like, woooo . So beautiful to have experienced through his lense. Genuine organic interaction.
I watch Tayo Aina vlogs every time and always learn something about vlogging.🙌🏿🙌🏿
There's a place like this in the boundary between ondo and edo state in Nigeria...I think the name is arogbo...
Cool! The banana lady speaks many languages
She is probably Yoruba from Benin Republic.
Loved this and loved the people. Gentile ...particularly the market lady in the boat. True testament to resilience of Africans.
Thank you for showing this quality video with the right historical narration and nice insight from my country. Bravo continuez comme ça !

That was really lovely and I see the intelligence of it all. Africa is blessed.
Thanks for sharing this. Very informative.
Wow, The place is actually nice but risky for children to live in. I lived in a highland in Nigeria too. Nembe LGA of Bayelsa state but it has developed.
How is it a risk 🤔
@@doreenonekalit9888
Children can get drown, all valuable assets should be held carefully or will fall into water and get spoilt, e.t.c. There is alot of risk and disadvantages for living in this kinda environment.
@@Yankee_Yankee Ask the community. How many of their children have died by what you think?
Not true at all! They're very in tune with their elements, just like the Ijaws of Nigeria. They grow up to be excellent at swimming and other water related activities. They're just not given a chance in an unfair and unjust selfish world.
@@doreenonekalit9888
Forget that question. You and I know that everything has disadvantages.
Largest? May be you should compare it to Abe-Ereke in Ilaje, Ondo State, Nigeria.
I want to say THANK YOU so much for this incredible video. It has shown me how it looks like in different parts of this world.
You keep documenting cool & good stuff Tayo. I'm addicted to your story telling & film making skills ... I wanna be like you when I grow up ... 😃😃😃
Fantastic you just keep raising the bar. I also enjoyed your vlog on the salt city. Cheers
Great to see you are doing the water tour even though you are starting out in Benin republic. These are delightful episodes.
The way the functions of the boats are divided is funny.
1. One for me to go and catch the fish
2. Second for the women to go and sell the fish 🐠 caught
3. Third for the children to go to school...
Tayo for president! 🙌 Your film making skills are amazing. Good job on this one.
Welcome to my country Tayo..
thank you so much for sharing the culture of Benin, you should travel to different regions as each as a very unique culture.
