      Hello. We build the adapter plates and flywheels for doing VW to Toyota engine swaps.
      In this Land Cruiser we used a transmission from an early 90's V6 4Runner, because we felt that the V6 transmission was a stronger unit to start with. We do have adaptors to connect the Volkswagen diesel to the R151F transmission, however, you will need to swap the bell housing to one that originally came from a gas powered Toyota. Starting with the diesels bell housing puts The starter in a position where it will interfere with the oil filtration system on the Volkswagen engine.

    You fabbed an adapter plate for the trans? What transfer case did you use? Thanks

      Hello boostx40, and thank you for the reply,
      We built an adapter plate and modified a 93 Toyota 4Runner 3.0 V6 flywheel to fit the VW engine. Then used the 93 4Runner's 5spd. transmission and transfer case.

    How much throttle did you have to give it to maintain 100km/h on flat ground?

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  5 років тому +1

      As I remember, in 5th gear it was approximately 3/4 throttle. Would really have liked to seen the pump and turbo upgraded. That would have raised the power from 75 hp. 145 lb.ft. to 150 hp. 250 lb.ft. Customer was happy though. That’s what matters in the end.

    What is final drive ratio. Have you changed it or not with this engine. The stock bj came with 4.11

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  6 років тому +1

      Hello Waqas Z.
      We did not change the final gear ratio (differential gearing) in this Cruiser. We checked, and you are correct, it has a 4.10/4.11 ratio in the differentials.

      @@toyworksautocrafters3072 thanks alot for such a rapid response😁Did not you feel lack of power while driving it w.r.t 3b motor

      When this Cruiser came in to our shop, the 3B had a connecting rod sticking out of the side of the block. The customer first wanted a 2H installed, but after driving one of our VW powered Toyota trucks, decided that the VW 1.9 diesel was a far better choice. (Saved approximately 1100 lbs from what a 2H and Cruiser 5spd. Would have been. The VW engine has nearly the same power as the 2H and can rev to 5000 rpm and can be upgraded to over 160 hp, and 270 lb.ft. with nearly no loss in durability.)
      I have owned and driven 3B powered Cruisers, and find them to be ridiculously underpowered and kinda fuel hungry for this day and age.

      Hello Muddy Water Outdoors, and thank you for the inquiry.
      I can't say as I know of anyone Stateside doing this specific conversion. This is the first Cruiser conversion for us. We've done many conversions using VW 1.9 diesels into 4Runners and Toyota trucks though. We've got another Cruiser conversion scheduled in January, a 1997 80 series LandCruiser.
      If you'd like to contact us at 519-938-9844. We'll help you in any way we can, parts/information etc.

      To Muddy Water Outdoors
      Oh! In that case you've come to the right people.
      We would need to know a bit about your project; V6 or 4cyl, automatic or manual truck, what year VW donor car, intended use of finished vehicle, and what state your located? From there we should be able to help you out with pretty much what ever you require.
      We will be away from the shop until mid November, but will be trying to answer e-mails (thetoydoc@hotmail.com) and we've forwarded the phone to my mobile device (depends on cellular availability) and will try to take calls.

      Hello again Muddy Water Outdoors
      I have received your email, and will reply to you on it as well as here on UA-cam, but I just wanted to leave some of the information here so that others can find it.
      The big problem with your vehicle is going to be the automatic transmission. Toyota has used computer controlled transmissions in all of their four-wheel-drive mini trucks since 1985. When installing a Volkswagen diesel we have not been able to keep the computer signals configured so as to allow the transmission to shift gears properly. It's like needing an interpreter from German to Japanese. It is something we're slowly working on, and have been talking to companies all across North America to see if anyone has solve this. The best information we have got is from a shop in Virginia which specializes in doing 2JZ engine conversions in Toyota Supra's. They have informed us that we will need throttle position sensor signal, speed sensor signal, and RPM signal in a form that the original Toyota transmission can understand. They found that in the 2JZ engines control unit, but of course that was an already existing Toyota engine. We're trying to find a way to pull those signals out of the Volkswagen computer and modify it to a form that the Toyota transmission can understand. Not sure how long this will take.
      If your truck was a manual transmission, we could send you a kit, or complete kit and engine, and it should be simple enough to install that if you were capable of doing a regular factory motor replacement, you would be able to complete a conversion.
      The other option is to send it to us. We have arranged with the yard in Lewiston New York where US vehicles can be dropped off, and then we will cross the border pick them up do the conversion and return them to Lewiston.
      For us to do your truck currently, we would also have to perform a transmission swap. We would obviously remove the automatic and put in a manual.
      Thank you again, I will reply to you as well in an email.
      Once again we can be reached here or by phone at 519-938-9844 or by email at thetoydoc@hotmail.com

      Hello reidk420
      In a land far, far away, in a time way after now, high speed internet may be available to us. But alas, till this mystical day arrives, we are burdened with the affliction of "dial-up", there in, can not run a website. Luckily we've recently been granted the telephone and have retired our telegraph machine.
