Couldn't possibly be more excited for this one.
This one is really looking good so far. Can't wait for release this summer; should be a really good time.
Played the demo yesterday and based on that demo only, this game will be a fking 10 out of 10. I loved everything, but if something really surprised me was that in the crystal dungeon you can access extra colors rooms just by being curious, nobody tells you or hint you, i love that kind of things. If there's not weird thing hide it on the final games and this demo is actually a good representation of the final product, then this will be a masterpiece.
Finished the demo about an hour ago it might just be the best and most impressive demo I've ever played. Yes, SoS is gorgeous, no question but what I'm most impressed with is the Combat System. This small taste of it proved to be surprisingly interactive for a Turn Based RPG. Some of the Skills you pull off can basically make each turn become a "mini game" of sorts and they're a whole lot of fun to do. I can't wait to see what the rest have in store in the full version.
Also, the one playable Dungeon was a blast to play through. Nothing too groundbreaking here but that's perfectly fine, because what they've done is taken old tried and true troupes, and greatly improved on them with the games own unique style and approach. The Dungeon Boss (and regular enemies) do take a healthy dose of strategy to defeat. It appears combat is the basket SoS is putting most of its eggs into and rightfully so. The learning curve is simple, short and fun to figure out.
Sea of Stars is looking like it's going to be something very special.
The combat was the best part for me, too! Feels like it's A LOT more engaging than previous turn-based RPGs.
Hope they release a physical version, but not a limited print. If it's Devolver, we might get a retail version.
Actually, most of the soundtrack is composed by Eric Brown, who also did the music for their previous game The Messenger. Mitsuda is doing only 10 tracks.
Yup, there's only one Mitsuda track in the demo and they even make a point of telling you when you come across it
The messenger soundtrack was sweeeeeeet!
I have not seen another game with a battle system so close to chrono trigger. I'm very excited for this game reminds me so much of it !
This is more like super Mario rpg, you want a chrono trigger battle system with improvements then the trails games would be more fitting of that.
Hmm Maybe, honestly I can't really remember how rpg went I never got a chance to play it for long maybe like 3 hours.
Been hyped for this one for awhile. Started out looking like a cheap gatcha Facebook banner ad game and slowly developed into something amazing looking. I'm super interested to see if it really ties into Messanger much or just developes the shared world history. Be interesting if they keep making games with different genres in the same world.
Looks so so good! I downloaded The Messenger just because it takes place in the same universe I've heard.
Loved the demo, I thought it was just hard enough but not too hard, I agree with the combat cues not being easy to understand but you pick it up as you play, the art looks so damn good can't wait. I need to get Chained Echoes to tie me over.
plenty of time to perfect it.
Chained Echoes was excellent. A 9/10 for me. Should have plenty of time to play it before SoS unless you're waiting for the physical copy boo
Man, The Last Fantasy and Wyrm Venture are some of my favorite RPGs. Always preferred jrpgs to western made stuff like The Ancient Parchment series.
Looking fantastic! Is the demo ONLY on the eshop? Or can I play it on steam as well
Can’t wait! 💪🏾
Worldmap Walk speed is too slow. I don't understand the combat yet
Working overtime today huh bro
yes :(
I have been really getting into pixel art RPG’s like this lately.
Does anyone have any recommendations for PS4/5?
This game is amazing looking
I got stuck on a rock early on..
Better beat it, you can see me in the credits.
we're try to include it in the screenshots :P
SPOILER at 1:45!
This game looks really good
so good!
Game is great!
.. but having review impressions from an hour long demo just to have some kind of content is rather pathetic.
Loved the demo for this. Not a huge fan of pixel art games but this is definitely the way to do it for HD gaming. Still wish it was super clean and hand drawn but i know it’s much more expensive. As for the game itself i loved the feel of the world and combat was fun (although a bit easy). Looking forward to seeing where the devs take this one. After just completing sekiro and GoW I’m in need of something completely different.
Fresh mechanics, love the fishing mini game, can't wait!
Fresh and a lotta fun.
Word: niche (neesh)
Americans: so this **nitch**
Word: addictive (exists)
Americans: so this **nitch** is **addicting** 😂
This is a really special game i can just feel it, i thought it was Eastward but that game while good did not fully do it for me. After playing this demo and hearing the music and experiencing the combat oh yes this is the game i have been finally waiting for!!! This game definitely needs a really nice collectors edition that i would more than happily pay for.
“Homely” means ugly. Just throwing it out there.
Also, Mitsuda is only a guest composer
Did it have voice acting in the demo?
Looks great
Chained Echoes QOL *fast* walking speed looks to be the only seeable thing this is missing.
Oh, finally! I hope they release a demo on PS4
Is this game made by the same people would made Cross Code? Has a similar look.
Nope, they only made The messenger, this one is their second game
no voice acting in 2023? no thks
Noticed some occasional typos in the dialogue like "layer" for later and "who's" for whose. Also the movement on the overworld map felt too slow. Should be similar to running speed. Other than that a short but sweet demo. Really looking forward to the release.
Ooo nice spotting those!
