I was there that morning. I used to see Tony tending the memorial when I went to the park. Sheffield was home for 5 years while I was at university there. I miss it badly. A part of it came with me when I left there.
John Humphrey, the 2nd lieutenant, was my great-great uncle. I learned from my grandmother (his great-niece) about the story yesterday. I’ve never been prouder.
If only there were more people like tony the world would be so much better off . Sir I salute you. Just the kind of person who should be knighted. So glad he got his wish. Rip to the brave airman who scaredfised thier lives

Very touching, thank you. I am the "nephew" of the bombadier, Lt. M. Hernandez. I say nephew in quotes because, of course, I never met him (was born eight years after the incident). Melchoir came from a large, poor Mexican family. Although an average student in school, he studied hard to master the physics and math needed to be a bombadier. He was quite skinny, and had to eat bananas at night to make weight. The life insurance policy he bought, propelled his family into the middle class. So a double debt is owed by us. He was/is sorely missed.
Just watch this again I am sobbing what an amazing story and hell very moving and what a fantastic man Tony is I go to normally every year on the 6th of June to pay my respects well done Tony for keeping their memories in everybody’s hearts and well done BBC x
I’ve only just heard this emotional story on The Chase, the Anniversary was only 6 weeks away, Dan says he met him as he was walking his dog in the Sheffield Park.
What a lovely tribute to the guys who gave their lives to safe others. We need to remember this for future days Thank you Dan for bringing this story alive 😊
I want too know why it takes 75 years to honor these ppl?, I mean how many untold stories of bravery are still out there, that haven't been told. Respect to Tony, and thank you for the bomber crew who made the ultimate sacrifice!.
Bonkas mate John Humphrey, the 2nd lieutenant, was my great-great uncle. I learned from my grandmother (his great-niece) about the story yesterday. I’ve never been prouder.
I don’t know how this was in my recommendations. But I’m so glad. Tears down my cheeks! My father-in-law just turned 95, who fought the Germans/Army. And my Uncle /navy medic is 94. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Great Story about a Great Man!
I had the honour of meeting Tony today at the memorial . What a lovely man. Such a sad story.
Awesome bravery and selflessness from that American aircrew. RESPECT.

I’m here because I’ve just heard it on a Chase repeat 👍🏼
I love around 4:20 when he hears the plane approaching
must’ve bought back memories / been invocative even if it wasn’t the exact same make or model
