  • REVISION! I have recently been informed through Kawasaki Owners Group that it is not necessary to remove the left lower fairing panel in order to do this job. Check it out when you get to that point in the disassembly and see if it's doable. I haven't done it but several people say they have so skip ahead to removing the bolts holding the bracket and see if you can wiggle in there and do the job. Link to discussion of my thread on COG online. forum.cog-online.org/index.php...
    I purchased my 2011 Concours in late September of 2013. The motorcycle has approximately 13,500 miles on it so I knew that it was due for an air filter or nearly due (15,000 miles is the interval I believe). If you think that changing the air filter on a motorcycle with a wraparound fairing is going to be like changing the air filter a car, you are sadly mistaken.
    There are four "Tupperware" pieces and a bracket that must be removed just to get to where you can see the air filter cover. I should also add that if you are unable to use the little track that I discovered, you will also have to remove the windshield. Warning -- patience, perseverance, and some degree of mechanical aptitude is necessary to accomplish this task. If you are lacking in these characteristics, you should probably allow your local Kawasaki dealer to accomplish this job. I suspect that their labor rate order to do this will not be trivial.
    I purchased the K and N reusable and washable air filter at a cost of $46.31 delivered by Amazon. This price was in the ballpark -- I don't think there are any much less expensive alternatives. If you order through Amazon don't be confused by the fact that the picture is not correct. What came was exactly right. The K&N part number is KA -- 1406.
    A quick side note -- the instructions given to change the air filter are also what is necessary to expose the cooling reservoir except for the bracket removal. This video goes through the disassembly process step-by-step and it is fairly long at around 30 min. As time allows, I will also put up a secondary video that will show the assembly process after air filter replacement.

    Steve, thanks so much for doing this video. I too have a silver 2011 Concours 14, and was recently wondering how I'd change my air filter. I too, like you use the K&N filters and love Mobil 1 Synthetic oils. Wow, this is time consuming and it does appear that Kawasaki engineers weren't thinking ease of maintenance. But your step by step walkthrough showed me what I needed to know, so I don't reinvent the wheel .... Thanks for taking the time to do this!!! Best Regards, Cliff Costello

    Just did the job. Thank you!
    I did not remove the side fairing. I only removed the black plastic holding the glovebox, then i unscrewed the two bolts holding the foam bracket and moved it out of the way.. then its easy pulling the filter from there. There is enough room. The only hard part is getting the bolt off the bottom of the foam bracket, that just took mechanical experience...

      While the job isn't awesome, it is not bad at all. I will do the filter every 12-15k I think.

    I know a lot of people complain about "Kawasaki" making this so difficult, but this is common with motorcycles with fairings. The BMW's are this way too and they are 20000 plus dollars? It wouldn't seem like anybody would make such a common part so hard to change but it's not just Kawasaki. Like someone else posted, it's 10 screws and some pop rivets. Not really that difficult, just annoying.

    good job!!!! Get rid of the K&N filter see Project Farm on u-tube for air filer tests!!! The K&N will increase HP 2-5 and it does so because it allows bigger particles into your motor!!! Not Good.

    Kawasaki needs there ass kicked for this, why in the hell did they make something like an air filter this big of a chore???

    • @cott10r
      @cott10r 9 років тому

      cott10r UPDATE: i just did an air filter replacement on my 12 concours & there is no need to remove the LH side fairing, it can be done with it on. you still have to remove the black plastic around the gauges, the glove box & pull the bolts that hold the foam bracket thingy once thats all removes its free and clear access to the air filter cover.

    • @Cyclerosis
      @Cyclerosis 9 років тому

      cott10r You should see the chore it is to change the air filter on a 2007 Ducati MTS 1100! Nearly a total disassembly!

  • @tg8150
    @tg8150 4 роки тому

    Let’s just say the 2008 Concours is considerably easier to change. No messing with the dash or side storage pocket. In and out in 30 mins tops. Btw, Castrol synthetic is much better than that fake Mobil 1 stuff. Mobil 1 is not really synthetic oil.

  • @troyguy66

    • @alexcomp99

    • @Craigmri
      @Craigmri 5 років тому

      Steve Garrison I like the new Goldwing too but at half the price the Concours is the perfect fit for me. Bargain at 12k out the door for brand new with 6 years of warranty(3 year extension thrown in the deal).

    • @alexcomp99
      @alexcomp99  5 років тому

      @@Craigmri I did like the Concours but I found I would drive the GW more often. As a senior scaredy cat I never rode the Concord the way it was meant to be ridden and that might also be a factor. I do have to say if a new Concours can be had at 12k that is a bargain though. Think I paid 9 for my 2011 when it was a year and a half old. Probably got a lot more features now???

    • @Craigmri
      @Craigmri 5 років тому

      @@alexcomp99 I think the only difference between your 2011 and the 2015-Current is the revised the Linked brakes making them less intrusive and added a vent to the windshield....And of course colors.
