On content with a high relative brightness (about 60% and up) LCDs are actually more power-efficient that OLED screens. Things like a white theme fall under that category, wich puts the pixel 2 at a disadvantage for example.

Blergh. Ive had a few z3 compacts, z3, z5 compact and z5. They get issues. Camera lense can get issues with dirt getting inside, which ruins the rear camera which i picked up on. But Ivd enjoyed having them. Changing up now hopefully.

I've had the iPhone X, Oneplus 5t and Note 8. I've currently got the Pixel Xl 2. The battery on it by far the best of them all. Like he say, must definitely be something wrong with this device.

Theo It did very good given the fact its Apple A11 chip is already 6-7 months old compared to the newer 845 phones and the battery size is the smallest.
Not to mention, iOS kills most of the background app moment after you quit, while Androids don't.
Wei-Ghee Kills no, it is just suspended. It will resume when you open it again. In normal usage, it won't affect much. For me, it will only affect when the application is downloading files and I have to keep the application open and phone awake. Sometimes I wish Android has this as well to prevent battery drain from all the wakelocks. Too more freedom isn't the best as well.

Wei-Ghee ?? You don't need Google for such an obvious fact? By saying that iOS kills background apps, it means I have to reload the application everytime I switch out from the application. We all know it isn't true on iOS because that will be unusable. Killing apps is not the same as suspending them.

Little suggestion, it would be worth doing factory reset to all phones prior to the test. I believe phones like XZ2 or P20 pro are relatively new compares to Note 8 and Pixel and as we all know battery life somehow goes worse after more and more apps are installed ;)

Nobody has noticed this yet but the S9+ and P20 Pro are using the default resolution which is 2,220×1,080, while the Pixel 2 XL is at 2880x1440.

fightnight14 sofware resolution change only matters in games since it has to render higher res but in normal usage when set to 1080p it still does light the whole 1440p+ display also s9 display is the biggest of the bunch so it would only matter by 5-8 mins

The iPhone X lasts longer due to the fact that it's screen quality and resolution is not the best. If it had the screen resolution as the s9+, it wouldn't last nearly as long, so it's kind of smart on Apple's part but then again they can't keep up with Samsung having a fantastic battery on the s9+ and an amazing resolution

Although the XZ2 does really well in this test its worth noting that its the only phone in the test that is running ALL its content in HDR as it has Bravia tech that up scales content, also the video app the XZ2 was in HDR mode which again none of the other phones have (as its a world's first in a mobile phone).
Basically without the HDR stuff would the Sony of been even better, for definate, is the usage worth it for full time HDR and 4k HDR video recording.... Hell yes.
I did my research, I bought the XZ2 and have no regrets.
Ps were the phones set to a universal screen brightness or just maximum? That can vary battery usage massively.
Pro tip :)... Take any phone and set it from 100% to 90% and you will all get great results without really reducing quality of display.

Battery tests like this are kind of irrelevant purely because phones like the Note 8, Pixel 2 and OP5 have clearly been out for months longer than the huawei... battery degradation is a thing depending on how much you use the device. The only way this test would be fair is if each of the phones was brand new with fresh batteries. Like if you agree.

OP 5t has less resolution and the same size of screen. The Note 8 has the worst battery of the test.
But the resolution in a phone is good with 1080p. the color accurate and brigthness is the most important, because the iPhone has the better display of 2017, for the color accurate and brightness min and max.
The battery of the iPhone X is the most optimized of all the phones, but the better battery is for the P20 pro that is awesome!
And not least the performance, iphone x has almost doubled the perfomance against those phones.

Everyone is so unnecessarily biased against Sony.... I have used Sony phones in the past and I think they offer very nice smartphones

Mate appreciate your time and effort, but if you're not going to buy a meter and set all the screens to equivalent brightness, AND set them with maximum resolution (not Samsung default low res) and power-saving options switched off (Huawei auto-res etc), then it invalidates the test. There's a ton of similar tests on youtube, people value precision, so rise above the flock and make your videos extra special. Also show that all phones have the latest OS updates applied. What is the ambient temperature? etc
How can anyone draw any kind of conclusions from this type of videos? Are the different phone ages controled??? And different software stages or versions? The performance from a clean factory reset phone might be very different from a phone heavily used and with tons of software updates done. Don t get me wrong i appreciate the effort but I see these videos done many times without of any variables controled.
This is not a decision making video... It's merely to show how your usual handset consumes power abstractly.. We haven't even started with Stamina modes and other battery safety features each phone has... Not to mention the Qnovo Adaptive Charging that preserves a battery's life on the long run
But hey at least we got one way to know

the one which draw my attention is iphone X and sony xz2, of all the phone, sony and iphone have the lowest mah, and in the test both also finish as the third and fifth, but if you calculate mah/hour, both are definitely the most efficient phone...
if all the phone can make the battery to 4000 mah as well, i bet the rank will be changed:
iphone X : 10 hours
sony xz2 : 8 hours 55 minutes
one plus 5T : 8 hours 30 minutes
samsung s9+ : 8 hours 12 minutes
huawei p20 pro : 7 hour 34 minutes
It depends on the Specs and Phone Sizes plus extra Features of the Phone. I would probably choose S9+. S9+ camera and speed test is better than P20. 👌

I have a 2 Years old Xperia XZ2 and the battery life is 2 - 2 1/2 hours by playing japanese music tab games (Love Live allstars, BanG Dream, Hatsune Miku colorfull stage). 2 - 2 1/2 hours and the battery is 5 %.

If XZ2 is open display setting to do this test, then Sony do well. I think SDR to HDR is always on, cannot switch off, that why XZ2 still can reach 7 hour is amazing.

My note 8 turns off when it reaches 10%. The battery goes from 10% to 0% in just a few seconds. What could be the problem??
Well as it is true that p20 pro won by far, i think an average consumption should also be considered, where the iphone leaves all of them in the dust:
P20 pro - 520mAh
S9+ - 490mAh
XZ2 - 451mAh
Iphone x - 400mAh
OP5T - 470mAh
NOTE8 - 536mAh
Pixel 2xl - 586mAh
Iphone is by far the most efficient of them all. If the apple guys could pack a 4000mAh battery pack inside it could actually reach 10h of the same usage as in the video.
So im not so sure who is the real winner here...
The best battery friendly are Iphone X & XZ2
1. iPhone X (2716mah/360.48minute) = 7.53mah drain
2. Sony XZ2 (3180mah/420.06minute) = 7.57mah drain
3. S9+ (3500mah/420.11minute) = 8.33mah drain
4. OP5T (3300mah/420.01minute) = 7.85mah drain
5. Note8 (3300mah/360.09minute) = 9.16mah drain
6. P20 Pro (4000mah/420.34minute) = 9.51mah drain
7. Pixel XL (3520mah/360minute) = 9.77mah drain
One Plus 5T hanging around with the upper class of the battery tests, very good result considering it's also the fastest charging device of them all! Xperia Z2 did way better than I anticipated because my old Z5 had terrible battery life for comparison. S9 also did fantastic, but the note 8, Pixel 2 and the iPhone X were a little disappointing but obviously still very useable under normal circumstances wherein you aren't fully testing the battery. P20 Pro thought no doubt takes the cake!
Big whoopie deal point anyways is the longer the use the more the battery dies on any phone and it doesn't make it a better phone yea I wish note 8 would have a longer battery but it's still the better phone get over it people besides who needs there phone 24 7 people with no life
