I like to think Cochrane almost immediately understood the significance of the Enterprise when he saw her through the telescope. Federation ships still have the classic human warp assembly and hull arrangement he pioneered right from the beginning. Of course, that ending though. With all of his contributions, it makes me wonder why there was never a USS Cochrane in the fleet. You'd think with all that he did, the least he could get is a ship named after him. I guess he wasn't as important as they made him out to be.
@Mulder495 You're right, but what shows up, in my opinion, is far worse than if they hadn't had a USS Chocrane ship at all. On the official list of Federation ships, it shows up twice, which is weird. One vessel has zero distinction or information, and the other is an Oberth Class vessel, which is a civilian operated vessel. Obviously, it was just a canonical creation and addition, which was only included for lore. And yeah, this inclusion is worse than if they didn't have a vessel named after Chocrane! An oberth class? That ship is a slap in the face to the man who started it all! Did you hear what Riker said? None of it, would be possible without Chocrane, but he gets an Oberth Class vessel? With everything that Riker said, the USS Chocrane should have been, at the very least, a Constitution Class vessel with tremendous notoriety, and adventures, under its operation. The USS Chocrane should have been featured prominently in movies and TV shows, but it's nowhere to be found in any movie or TV show, which makes my original statement true. Plus, after Riker's talk up, you'd think that a ship bearing that name would not be some random one-off, fan-service side reference on some list that no one ever looks at.
