  • Wires leading to the ignition coils on the NC1 MX-5 Miata's are known to break inside of the insulation causing a misfire and a check engine light.
Pulling them in certain directions using zip ties or cable ties works as a temporary fix but ultimately you want to solder some new connectors from bmotorsports.com

I'm surprised that is is even an issue, never thought that the resistance of the cables can actually increase with worn. Mine has 250k kms (155k miles in freedom language) so I guess it's time to do it. Thanks for this tip, and I am really sorry that you crashed this beautiful NC but happy that you are safe. I hope another NC comes soon to the channel😁

Fixing this issue on my NC1 now. Just needed to see what the wires look like without the jacket. Trying not to cut one while removing jacket. Thanks

Nicely done. I spy a Moroso aluminum reservoir tank under the hood. Clever choice!

Yeah, you got it. I want to be the one who decides when the 2.5 swap happens lol

@@nogokart LOL, damn right! The Moroso tank was my NC2's first mod. I am cheap though. If mine blows up, I'd just replace it with the same engine.

Did you solder, or use a butt crimp connector? And what size are the wires, if you dont mind. I had this same issue on track and im gonna try to fix it, but ive never done electrical work in my life 😅😅

Soldered and shrink wrapped. Not sure on the wire size. Comes with the connector.

Recently got an NC. Having random misfire under half throttle load around 4.5k to 5k rpm. Hope your video would resolve the issue. I am in Toronto as well.

How is the reliability with nc1 and nc2, I’m probably looking for a new track car, someone just rear ended my 86 a couple days ago and now it’s total😅

I'd say pretty reliable lol. I've never had any big issues that have left me stranded. Misfire from the ignition coil wiring breaking and snapping the 3-4 shift fork in the transmission for the NC1s are the two big ones that I've heard and experienced.

@@nogokart thank you, I have also heard things with the shift fork but did you have any problems with it?

Yeah haha, swapped in a nc2 transmission after that.
