If you use the same red ones I did, it’ll work perfectly. I believe these from Amazon would work, but I can’t confirm until I get home from work! a.co/d/d1fLmDx
Yes it is the 2.5L, but this issue is specific to NC1 wiring harnesses. The swap doesn’t require changing the wiring harness, so I am still running the original harness from 2006. The fix is the same regardless of which engine you have in the car as it is ultimately a harness issue rather than an engine issue. The best way to solve the issue would be to upgrade to an NC2 harness, but that requites a lot more effort and money.
@@ShiftyIntentions Hi, thanks for the explanation. I was assuming the swap was with a new harness. My 05 MX5 NC1 one of the first 2.0 in Australia still performs strong with 110k miles which is 185 odd klms. give or take. ive had zero issues to date. but im going to pull the cover off and take the insulation tape off and check the stiffness of the wires just to be sure. maybe if its still pliable ill recover the wires with new insulation tape like you did. I'm lovin the content I know its not much but I love driving my NC almost as a everyday drive. Stay safe.
@@martywollaston1146appreciate the comment and glad you like the videos! Just doing it off and on now that life has become pretty busy. Got a few videos coming down the pipe soon. Some old stuff I filmed and some new stuff/updates. Also, if you end up stripping back all the tape just to check, you would almost just be better off splicing in new wiring to keep the problem from ever happening in the first place. My car has done about 500 miles since filming and the problem is completely gone. Cheers 🤙
Just ordered the connectors from ballengers, Thanks for showing the process. looks super easy. Thanks.
Definitely an easy job, just take your time. Think I maybe spent 2 hours start to finish while also filming.
Changed out my spark plugs, and one of my pigtails went out on me. Thank you for posting this video!!!
Glad I could help 🤙
Helpful video, thank you!
I'm thinking about tackling this job myself but am unfamiliar with the butt connectors needed. Do you have a recommendation?

Hi Matt, is this motor the 2.5 litre you swapped for the 2.0? If so, how is this relevant to the NC1 2.0? I'm confused. Cheers.
