    Very cool Video. I only went through one play-through, it is very cool to see the other sides. Maybe we will get a tyranny 2 someday.

      We can only hope, though since Microsoft now owns Obsidian it seems unlikely.

    This was the first Obsidian game I played, and it got me into Pillars and New Vegas. I'm really hoping Avowed is successful so that a Pillars of Eternity 3 can be made. A sequel to Tyranny would be great as well, but I highly doubt it would ever come to fruition.

      I've played through both of the Pillars of Eternity games too, and I love the world they've set up. I do wonder what a third installment would be like considering the various ways Pillars 2 could have ended.
      Unfortunately I'm not very optimistic for Avowed, given the problems with The Outer Worlds. I'm still very open to being proven wrong though, given the world it's set in.

    30:00 I love the rebel playthrough. So much more satisfying to play the malicous compliance game.

      Every single moment I was playing it was a joy. They found the goofiest way to stay in-character for the evil player character marketing, and it's so much fun.

    It’s so crazy that you have only one video that broke 1 million views while the rest barely scratch it. I hope you keep going.

      Oh I definitely will. My current hiatus is just due to some really rough financial patches. I have several projects going, with one even really close to completion, but lack the ability to finish them yet. I'm hoping I'll be able to get through this and then return to my usual output.

    While the ending of the game is a bit sudden, it does pose some interesting questions. The option to bend the knee was added in a later update. Originally, declaring the Tiers yours and bringing war to Kyros was the only ending. And I can't help but wonder... was that intended by the Overlord? She is Kyros the conqueror, and with the Tiers she run out of things to conquer. You don't get murdered by the Archon of Shadows when it's clear you're becoming a threat but not yet at your full power, you get goaded along. When the dust should've settled Kyros announced a free for all among the Archons in Tiers. It seems rather clear Kyros doesn't care for her "Peace" or to govern her lands beyond their use for further conquest. So I can't help but feel that perphaps upbringing a new rebellious state with a powerful rival in charge was actually her goal. It lets her keep waging war.

    • @TheNewtC
      @TheNewtC  Рік тому +11

      I absolutely agree with this. The only reason I didn't mention that Kyros probably set up the player's rise to power is because of how little we know about Kyros. It would absolutely be in her style, and handily solves the problem brought about from converting a wartime economy to a peacetime economy.

      What makes you think Kyros is a woman? While the game doesn't clarify the overlord's gender, the name is clearly masculine. Besides, he is a ruler of the north.

    • @YoshiTheyosh123
      @YoshiTheyosh123 8 місяців тому +6

      @projectneich4415 Some of the Archons who actually met Kyros like Turon refer to Kyros as a she and react negatively when pressed to confirm the matter one way or another.
      At the end of the day we don't really have concrete proof for Kyros' gender and it doesn't really matter. Sirin sometimes refers to Kyros as a he, and sometimes as a she.
      I'm not sure being the ruler of the north has to do with the matter.

      @@YoshiTheyosh123 I must have not pay attention to that detail, I'm gonna play it a second time soon so I'll check that. I think he is male because in the lore it says that northerners have male rulers in the land while in the south the women are the ones who take the lead. Anyway, it doesn't matter at the end, as you said.
      By any chance do you happen to know a game with a similar style (low paced fluid combat)? Im having a hard time finding one that's not turn based. Already played pillars of eternity. Diablo doesn't do for me, you can't create a character, you're better than most npcs and you kill various enemies at the same time with a single attack. Not my kind of game. So, do you know a similar game to tyranny? Thanks in advance.

    All of Kyros creation, her Archon lead armies, his Peace and her flawed conquest , are designed to perpetuate a state of external struggle.
    As a Tyrant, she needs an enemy to put to the blade to show his might.
    As the Archon of Word(s), she needs opposing morales, philosophies and ways of life to crush by edict.
    As a God, she needs fuel - belief, fear, admiration, despaire. She is on her way to become something similar to the bane by now, probably.

    Tyranny has to be played twice. The first time, choosing Ashe or Voices - those are tutorial runs where you're led by the hand and they think for you. The second time, as an anarchist or a rebel - you play the role of someone with their own agenda and ambitions.
    As for the rebel path. What's the point of conquest itself? To make the population in the conquered land submit to you. You could commit genocide of the locals and then resettle with loyalists, but that would take a couple of generations for the new settlers to adapt to the new land. Another way is to make the locals themselves hang on your every word, following your instructions.
    The rebel path is all about this. Ashe and Voices terrorized the locals, but they didn't surrender and aren't ready to die, causing problems now. And here comes the protagonist who promises to do exactly what Ashe and Voices were supposed to do but messed up - bring new lands under Kyros' rule, but in a way that the locals themselves ask for it. As a bonus, Kyros gets rid of already unnecessary armies, since there's nothing left to conquer, and Ashe or Voices aren't fit for the roles of police or overseers. Overall, it seems like this was Kyros' original plan all along, rather than just a malicious twisting of the law.

      Or you could kill and betray, slaughter your way to the top and then take everything for yourself because everyone around you are either dead, or too intimidated to resist. I did only one playthrough, and that's what I chose, or something close to it. Fuck Kyros!

      @@TheMrDewil leaving a hollowed-out region, getting rid of both the troublesome imperial armies *and* destroying the possible local rebels, and a protagonist with no real support from either rebel Tiersmen or other armies of Kyros and whose rule would thus be shaky at best. Sounds exactly like the kind of power vacuum that someone like, say, Kyros could easily exploit :)

    Very good video and I enjoy getting the general ideas. This game for me always acted as a problem when it became so long, I don't really have the time to learn to play a new game, and then 30 hours of storyline. Something many say about games like the old Vampire the masquerade game is that it is short and nice, making mulitple playthroughs much easier.

    I want to suggest that the rebel path is actually also evil. What I did in my rebel playthrough, [SPOILER HEREFORTH[] I got the rebel factions all together and then I submitted to Kyros at the end.

    I can’t help but join the rebels but I feel like I’m not playing the game in the right spirit.
    I don’t find evil playthroughs of RPGs to be fun or interesting.
    Granted this game isn’t like most, fewer silly “kick puppy” evil options… but that’s almost harder because some of them are more realistic.
