My vote is for restoring the doors! I think it’ll look really beautiful next to the staircase railing. 🥰 Also I so understand your feeling about watching the year end with unmet goals. Edit: I can’t believe this is my most liked UA-cam comment to date 😂 Glad to know everyone here loves wooden doors!
I’ve been restoring historic woodwork recently, and I’ve been stripping the wood, but the wood was painted originally, so I’ve just been repainting the wood afterwards (with shellac-based paint, of course). The reason I’ve been doing this roundabout process is that the old paint was peeling (and possibly contained lead), and stripping and repainting can provide a much better finish. Also I’ve been de-mounting and fully disassembling the woodwork before stripping and repainting it because it’s easier to do the work on a flat work surface rather than up on the wall. (Some of the woodwork I’ve been replacing with identical copies; the woodwork I’ve been stripping and repainting would just be prohibitively expensive to replace because it’s not a standard catalog profile at the lumberyard/mill near me.)
Agreed - you could always use a different varnish on the inner divots of the doors to create something with depth!! Good luck, and I’m proud of you for working through the end of the year 🎉🎉
I think the best thing to do with the doors is to strip the white doors and see what condition they’re in! If they’re in good condition, great! Restore them to that beautiful wood finish! But if they’re in bad condition or are a different wood from the other unpainted doors and the difference is glaringly bad, then you’ll already have those doors stripped for all the doors to be painted on an even playing field.
@@amyvanilli Yes, but I would still keep the other doors wood even if the painted ones are in bad condition, too bad it wouldn't match but painting the wood would make me so sad
The Natural warmth of the distinguished wooden doors is very inviting, authentic and grounding. But also, it balances the wallpaper and painted wall panels perfectly in my opinion.
I spent an entire month stripping paint from one door in my 1884 house. I say this not to scare you from stripping the doors but to warn you of the feelings of vengeance you gain toward people who paint the stained wood to begin with! It also feels like you are helping the wood breathe again.
begging you on my hands and KNEES not to paint the doors white!!! the original wood is so gorgeous and i think in the long run you'll be happy to go back to the original character of the house. Also, wood goes with everything and always adds warmth, so no matter what the hallway gets repainted or re-wallpapered in the future, it'll go! there's a lot of paint in the room already, so i love the natural contrast of the wood. on another note, thank you for this video. you're a spot of joy and light in grim times
Stripping the one door will be more work than painting the other two, but the result will be much more rewarding. The white is cold and sterile, the wood is warm and welcoming. Also: if you don't *want* to do artwork in that arch, you could always just put matching wallpaper in it to make it match the other walls.
I think the doors being wood adds a nice natural element to the line of sight in the hallway. Breaks up the green and the wallpaper in a nice way that compliments them. also complements the railing nicely.
I concur with restoring the wood door but if it becomes necessary and you have to paint, don't use stark white - match a warm off white or beige to the wallpaper. Either way the hallway will be fabulous!
Agree. The stark white isn’t it. Cream would be nice and clean and bright in the hallway that has a dark ceiling. I also love natural wood! But it’s ok to paint if you want
ok so the whole video is about serving looks huh?? what gorgeous outfits, and that clippy hairstyle is so cute! also, although it's time consuming, i think restoring the wood doors would be really worth it! i can see it creating a nice harmony with the stair rail and "tying in" all of the rooms to the hallway. much love to you ariel ❤️❤️!!
I vote for restoring the doors! I think it would work so well with the colors in the wallpaper and you could always paint over it if you don't like it. Lovely video, as always!
I stopped at 2:48. Wooden doorways, all the way! No white! They will match your staircase, beautifully. See, I'm typing as I go, just like you! Now, on to the rest of the video.
Love how this hallway is coming together! I think the doors matching the railing would continue the fresh lighthearted, joyfulness you have going in that space. It also lends itself to a certain sophisticated drama also. Though white is nice and bright, the wood has so much charm! But do what makes your heart sing! Love the videos Ariel, been watching since you first bought the house, blessed to have found your content back then. ❤️
It would break my heart if you painted the doors! I love the way the wood looks against the green. If you aren’t ready to restore the other door yet, I vote on painting just that one green for the time being, do it blends into the walls and trim until you have time to tackle it.
So satisfying to get things done! I make UA-cam videos in a similar spirit as you about my life in the remote west and renovating my tiny home and since starting, its blown me away just how long things take and how it always feels like there's always all these random things to do to finish a project. Cheering you on from afar! Sending love from my little corner of the world to yours 🧡
Big fan of restoring the doors. I think you've already done so much work to restore the character of the house and letting it speak its history and heritage, that restoring the doors just feels "right".
Watching you for many years now, I can see how you have grown into a wonderfully beautiful woman. So grateful you're here, I've learned so much and am getting more and more motivated!
Thank you so much for saying "I didn't have the bandwidth" instead of "I didn't have the time", it was really refreshing to hear and more compassionate rather than an excuse. I'll definitely carry this over with me ❤
Aah thank you again for such a cozy video :) I just realised how the style of your videos suits the feel of your house, your personality and even your clothing! Loved all the outifts you shared as well. You really have a style that runs through everything you do, it’s very pleasing and inspiring as well
12:13 -- am I the only one who saw that whole can spilling down the stairs? 😅 ps. you always find the CUTEST SHIT on thread up, I don't know how you do it!
Baby step after baby step gets you places! I'm horribly indecisive about decorating but I'm sure whatever you pick for the doors in the hallway will look great! Maybe have all the doors match the stair banister and the regular unpainted wooden floors. It would be a nice throughline in the house / tie things together. And if it doesn't work, it's just stain; you can repaint it if you hate it.
Ariel, your style choices are fabulous and everything you pick out really suits you so well!! Stunning! I also vote for keeping the doors natural, big job, but it'll pay off.❤
so many comments already saying this but i agree. you've got quality wood doors - let them be themselves! they pick up the warmth from the wallpaper, go well with the paint color, match the other wood elements, break up the wall & trim color without being jarring, they need less cleaning and touching up than they would if you painted them something lighter - all around winning!
Thread Up is great. I wish items could be searched by measurements instead of just by s, m, l, xl. I end up wasting so much time searching since item measurements do not always accurately correlate to sizes, especially in used clothing.
can't begin to tell you how much i loved that you added 'make this list' to the do list so you could cross it off. that made me laugh and made me feel seen. i've been there! sometimes you just gotta give yourself the win.
I vote restore the doors, you can paint the doors later if you dislike how it turns out. The resorted doors will place nicely with the floor, and handrail and just tie it together.
Didn't realise I was so early until there weren't any comments to check out :D I am wondering if I'd be more inclined to make to-do lists if I had a type writer.
As a 62 year old woman, I hear a typewriter (I own one!) & I feel like I am GETTING THINGS DONE ! LOL 😆 P.S. News broadcasts on t.v. added typewriter noise when they switched over to electric typewriters ! It gave a kind of "busy, busy, busy!" feel !
I am having the same feelings about not accomplishing as much as I intended to this year. But when I really sit down and think about what actually happened, I realize just how much was actually done! The small wins are actually pretty big wins when you see the impact they have!
I think the restoring the doors would be so beautiful and rewarding! You’ve done such a beautiful job with the floors and I think between that and the stair rail, it would look so cohesive and wonderful.
Listen, I'm in the US. I really need ALL the UA-cam content creators to ramp up the content, please. I'm really not sure how I'm going to handle the next 4 years. I've already told my husband we need to fix our fence (blew over in a hurricane), because I cannot survive the next 4 years without a puppy. P.S. LOVE the jean overalls.
I’m in love with Thredup! Also! I just discovered how amazing men’s pants are! They’re more structured, the pockets are way bigger, and the quality is so durable. I have one pair I’m in love with, and I need to find MORE!
i think you should restore the doors to wood!! it's always lovely to see the contrast of the natural wood with all the fun and funky colors youve got going on
Oh boy I love a vintage pair of men’s trousers more than anything actually, they have the perfect silhouette, high waisted, wide legged, and are always 10 times better quality than modern women’s ones, yours are absolutely gorgeous!!
I will have to go with restoring the door to thier natural wood tones. The staircase turned out so nice, it just might be worth the effort. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas. ❤
My vote is for restoring the doors! I think it’ll look really beautiful next to the staircase railing. 🥰 Also I so understand your feeling about watching the year end with unmet goals.

Agreed! I think the wood looks better than the white in that space 😊
1000% agree the wood doors look so beautiful with the floors and the railing. It really is a nice contrast and fits the vibe.
I agree!
Yep I vote for wooden doors too. It will make the space feel warmer and tie with the stair railing and floors.
Happy you decided to restore the doors, it will look so original and awesome.
My girlfriend and I both shouted no! To painting the doors white.
As someone who has also restored parts of a 19th century home. It’s so worth it.
😊
I agree! I really like the wooden doors she has in the hallway.
I live knowing that my videos rile people enough for them to start shouting about door opinions. I feel like I’ve done something right hahaha
@@ArielBissett You have done a lot of things right. Love your attitude, approach, typewriter lists.

RESTORE THE DOORS!!! The wood is soooooo gorgeous, it would be a shame to cover it up, and it brings so much warmth to your cozy hall space! 😊
Wood for the doors for sure. It's a beautiful warmth.
I agree!

me too! Also, you could paint them green instead of if the wood doesn't work.
@@amyvanilli Yes, but I would still keep the other doors wood even if the painted ones are in bad condition, too bad it wouldn't match but painting the wood would make me so sad
Such a great idea! If the wood doesn't work out, what if you painted it tge same color as the trim?
The Natural warmth of the distinguished wooden doors is very inviting, authentic and grounding. But also, it balances the wallpaper and painted wall panels perfectly in my opinion.
My vote is to restore the doors! The natural wood next to the wallpaper is divine.
ok but the thumbnail is adorable

Plus if she regrets it, she'd have to strip three doors, better to try stripping once and decide from there.
What a good suggestion with the wallpaper!
OOh the matching wallpaper is a great idea!!! You just need to cut it to shape.
Door restoration. The warmth of the wood brings out the soft colors in the wallpaper.
I think the doors being wood adds a nice natural element to the line of sight in the hallway. Breaks up the green and the wallpaper in a nice way that compliments them. also complements the railing nicely.

Ok so normally I would say paint them but omgoodness the doors that are already wood look so pretty with the green trim so I'm going wood!
I vote for restoring the doors to natural wood. They will compliment the stair railing beautifully!

Restore to wood. It looks beautiful with your stairwell railings! 🤎
