LEARN HOW TO MAKE A GINGER OIL + RICE RECIPE TODAY!
LAY HO MA! This recipe has unique flavours, textures, absolutely delicious, and simple to make! Join me in this episode and learn how to make an incredible ginger oil (scallion oil) + rice recipe today!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup grapeseed or avocado oil
40g ginger
4 sticks green onion
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup jasmine rice
3 pieces garlic
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 cup water
300g jackfruit (young jackfruit in brine)
pepper to taste
handful of cherry tomatoes
100g cucumber
few sprigs cilantro
Directions:
1. Heat up the grapeseed or avocado oil in a small saucepan for 4-5min
2. Finely chop the ginger and green onion. Place into a mortar and add the salt. Coarsely crush the green onions and ginger
3. Very carefully pour the hot oil into the mortar. Give it a stir and transfer to the serving bowl
4. Rinse and drain the jasmine rice a couple of times
5. Finely chop the garlic and add to the saucepan along with the rice and toasted sesame oil. Sauté the rice on medium heat for 1-2min
6. Add the soy sauce and water to the rice. Give it a good stir, then turn the heat to medium high. When the water starts to bubble, give it a stir, and turn the heat to medium low. Cover and cook for 15min
7. Prep the jackfruit by squeezing out the water and tossing it in some salt and pepper to taste
8. After 15min, turn the heat to the rice off. Let it steam for another 15min
9. Plate the jackfruit along with some sliced cherry tomatoes and roughly chopped cucumber
10. When the rice is done, fluff it and plate with the jackfruit and veggies
11. Garnish with some freshly chopped cilantro and serve with the ginger and green onion oil

LAY HO LAY HO 🥳 I hope you’re keeping well and cooking well! This recipe is incredibly addictive and I hope you’ll love it! Did you know that we have over 300 episodes on our channel now? Crazy!! So humbled to have us cooking together ☺️
That's great Wil!! Keep on the good work!! I love your recipes 😋😍❤
If we do not have a mortar and pestlee large enough is there a good alternative?
@@SplitGillStudio For dry spice items, an electric coffee grinder works well. For wet items such as this recipe, I have used a very sturdy bowl or pyrex measuring cup/bowl (if one uses glass, ONLY use safety glass based items for this type of food prep.). Then one can use the back of a large spoon to obtain the same effect as a pestle.
Best wishes with your cooking!😋🍜
@@ridgleyhawthorne715 thanks! I have smaller ones but it definitely wouldn't be able to handle this recipe. I might get one later but I'm probably going to go the bowl route for now!
My favorite channel. Hands down. It seems like I discover something new literally every week! And I’ve been on this rock for a minute.
I just want to pass on that I find your concept and execution of Asian influenced cooking truly inspiring. I am an experienced chef with decades of experience in my kitchen but find your recipes have injected real interest, are about being precise in methods and quantities as well as opening up a let's try this for dinner tonight! I also adopted a plant based diet from a traditional n American meat a d potatoes diet 18 months ago and discovered that your recipes brought both visual and tangible taste excitement back into my nightly endeavors!
What a lovely comment! I am not a chef by any means, but I eat plant-based as well and I feel the same about Wil’s recipes. They’re a joy to cook and eat.
Such kind words and that warms my heart 🤗 I am happy we are cooking together 🙌🏻 Keep well
Michael, that is great! He is an artist.
You're so delightful. Watching you cook is like therapy. Blessings
Indeed ! This is SUCH an apt description.
He loves what he is doing and it shows!
I want to cook vegan more often, but I get easily discouraged when seeing recipes online with 826 ingredients and preparations 😫. You literally make vegan cooking accessible, easy & fun! Gonna try this recipe out asap!
Ici aussi j aime manger végé 2 ou 3 par mois ..mais je manque imagination ici tout ce que j essaye est bon..quand c est avec tofu j en suis très intolérante alors j y met pois chiche miammm
I just made this rice dish and the ginger oil. Oh my it's so simple and delicious. Thank you Will Yeung for this recipe. 🙏 I've often wondered how this rice was cooked when I see it being served at Chinese food stalls in our local hawker centers. And now I know. I'm going to cook this more often as it goes so well with many Chinese side dishes.
Just one thing I did differently was to transfer the lightly pounded ginger and green onion mix into a small saucepan. And then poured the very hot oil into the saucepan. I didn't want to mess about with washing a very heavy and oily granite mortar. This works well for me. 😀
This brings me back to my childhood days when my mom would serve this simple and delicious dish with shredded chicken. I can't wait to try this vegan version 😋
I was just thinking exactly the same thing as this. Thank you for sharing the recipe, sir!
Over the weekend I made your chili oil to give to my daughter when she was home for Thanksgiving. Cannot wait to make your ginger oil and this recipe. I love jackfruit. Thank you for the delicious recipe!
🥳🥳🥳
The ginger oil is so appealing especially at this time of year. Yum! Thank you.
🥳🥳🥳
This is perfect, I mean, from the recipe to the timing to the ingredients. I'm in the UK and there's a storm coming here, snow is anticipated. This is the heat-and-flavour-packed recipe I need right now! Besides, I am on a deadline. This won't take long to make. And I have all the ingredients (except jackfruit, so I'm skipping that). Thank you, Wil!
P. S. Hoping for the ginger oil to make more appearances in future videos. Maybe in noodle recipes.
🥳🙌🏻👨🏻🍳 Happy cooking and stay safe (and warm)
The dish is visually appealing and you can almost smell the great aromas through the video. I tried your chilli oil recipe and the smell gets more beautiful with time.

That knife is wicked sharp the way it cuts all the veggies and goes through tomatoes like butter. Made your chili oil and a couple other meals…time to order the cook book.
That ginger oil looks amazing.

Looks delightful...My grandmother had a vegetarian diet I will always love a pot of beans and fried potatoes...as a child that will always be a favorite
I absolutely love your channel. Can't wait to get a digital copy of your cook books. What I appreciate most, is that you use whole-foods and almost everything is made from scratch, which is how I enjoy cooking as well.
Since moving to the East Coast (of South Africa from an inland province), my family and I have discovered the wonders of Asian cuisine, from India to Thailand. Now that I've found an Asian supermarket not far from where I reside, I will be exploring more of the ingredients that you use in your recipes as well, i.e. sesame oil.
This looks delicious, by the way.
🥳🙌🏻
I am going to make this next week, looks so good!! Thank you

Would you be willing to make a purely Asian Recipes cookbook? Just throw in only the Asian recipes into a seperate book and sell. I just love love love Asian food and the sauces are so critical. An Asian Cookbook would be phenomenal to follow. Thanks heaps. Greatness as usual! Nothing less from Will Yeung for sure!
I can smell this as you make it!
Gracias 🙏💖

Lay Ho Ma! This is so therapeutic

🌿 Thank you very much 🌿👍👍👍👍👍
🙌🏻
Hi Wil - I've seen many of your fine UA-cam videos and wanted to buy one of your ebooks. But... as a non-USA citizen it is very awkward having all these American units like "cup", "lbs" etc. Would you consider to also use non-imperical units in your recipes?
yes please
Yes 🙏🏻 !!! I soo appreciate to have indications in grams & ml too. I hate to convert & add notes to cook books!
Yees! Its the only reason i havent bought any 😭
Just pick a small cup for your own measurements and go by that ! Like I cup flour 1/2 cup sugar ! That would work 😏
All sounds yummy but I’d have to cook that jackfruit some way.
Wow 🤩
🙌🏻
Omg! I miss Hainanese chicken with ginger oil so much. Ty Will for putting this together, this dish makes me so happy 😃
🥳🙌🏻👨🏻🍳
