Down with the sickness is probably one of the greatest songs to play on the drums
It took me many & various tutorials (until I got the deluxe cd) to see how Dan himself played it. It took me forever to learn The Sickness. Mom wanted to see me play it (she was terminally ill then) and when I finally mastered it, she passed on. However, I found myself covering that each time I practiced other songs. I only played with my friends band (when I was their Roady) after a few plays at gigs, I couldn't play it anymore, I'd think about my mother and I knew she was watching me from heaven. I play it rarely now. When I do decide to play it (like at practice earlier tonight) I was amazed that I remembered how to play it! I broke down a little but, powered through and succeeded.

He is one hell of a drummer! In Down with the sickness he was all I listen to, those drums haunt me.
I like his style if playing. It is kinda tribal and very easy to recognize.
I'd love to see Mike and Thomas Hakke collab sometime, they're both drummers who're known for their absolutely nutty kick patterns, so it'd be nice to see them collab.

It's funny, I play Pearl too, but not because of Mike. I just got my kit over 20 years ago and the first kit I got is still the kit I play. There was a (now defunct) website called Midwest Percussion where I got all my Pearl hardware and Zildjian cymbals where they actually had Mike as their main guy in the Pearl section of their store.
Pearl shells and Zildjian or Paiste cymbals (or both)

Mike's drums are the first thing you hear and he sets the pace for nearly every song. I love him! I saw Disturbed and took my youngest son to see them in Fayetteville back in 2010 or 11, he was 18 years old, I think. It was a smaller place than these bands are accustomed to, I'm sure, but the economy was taking a hit and even Korn was there for a little bit. I played pearl for a really long time but there better sounding drums out there.
Mine were world series maple shells with a birch middle ply. Deep Tom's. 12 13 14 16 22 " kick
