Still don't sound too good but I'm so bored of just sitting so I wanted to put something quick together! Anyone been playing this one? Will be back to normal with near daily videos next week hopefully!

      Thanks for the video!
I love the game but i have one big grievance.
The X button is used to use the pencil and open more of the map. It's mostly an area around the main character but this usually means half of the spaces in this area are already uncovered.
I found out that you can actually move this area by keeping the X button pressed and then move the left stick which is huge! However it works only 10% of the time (for me) cause as soon as you press X the game just immediately reveals the area.
      So annoying.

Roguebook is indeed a beautiful game, the design and ideas are very nice, however this game, after all this time passed, proved to be ultimately forgettable. The reasons are very simple. Its ridiculously easy early on, because of the embelishments perma upgrades. They are just TOO powerful and very cheap to get. The runs take too long compared to other roguelites/roguelikes, which ultimately is a huge issue, but more importantly you get so busted in every run by destroying everything, that every part of the "challenge" that roguelikes promise, is no longer there. It is what it is. No risk/reward here, you just get too powerful and do every single combat then you laugh at the bosses...
Great ideas, ruined by a very bad balance, and a ridiculously easy game for at least the first 15 epilogues which will be at least the first 60-80 hours in the game. Someone might drop it early because of how easy it is. Its still a solid buy, but it will never reach the replayability and challenge of slay the spire because STS is still amazing and unique on every run, even after 1000 hours in the game. And time proved it. People need a true challenge where their skill can be eventually enough to beat the game if they become real experts, but where the skill ceiling is high and not low like here. I never lost in roguebook after the first run which says a lot. You don't beat slay the spire as easily at first and even after many runs you can still lose if you underestimate situations.
I can see an argument where roguebook is better for casuals, worse deck-builder players, while the true deckbuilder fans will always find StS way more refined, balanced and properly challenging and will be their go-to forever. Monster train is also much better than roguebook unfortunately.

Glad to see this game finally getting some coverage! Re: text size and lag, I play the game exclusively on a Lite, have beaten all three main areas, and haven't had any serious issues. Any lag or stutters have been minimal and extremely brief (less than what I've seen in other, well reviewed games), and I've had zero crashes. While text size could stand to be a bit bigger in a few places, the important stuff is easy to read, and even the places where it's a bit small haven't given me any real trouble (and I have a visual impairment that causes on and off blurriness not fixable via glasses).
I definitely recommend anyone interested give this game a shot. It's well worth the asking price, does quite a bit to differentiate itself from other deckbuilders, and chances are you'll have a good time.

HI Fenyx, hopefully the patch that they're releasing soon will address the small text size issues! 👍

These card games are literally unplayable in handheld mode unless you use a magnifying glass to read the shockingly tiny text font.

Gald your feeling a bit better! I'm so excessively excited for this one. I was specifically holding off for it on switch instead of steam because it's the switch is the perfect platform for deck builders in my opinion!

It scales much faster and harder than slay the spire. Snd the random blank paths make it less predictable too.

Man I appreciate the honest review! Bringing up the text size and lag at times. I’ve not seen many reviews on this game but the ones I did see hide these flaws. I’ve seen reports of some crashing too unfortunately. As I play in handheld exclusively, I’ll wait for a patch but I do intend to pick this up eventually!

Fwiw, I play exclusively on Lite, have beaten the game's final boss, and haven't had any issues. Could be I'm just lucky, or could be the issues reported are either rare or overblown. Either way, I'm loving this game so far.

    Super glad u getting better.

I found this game was a lot of fun! The map navigation stuff was surprisingly compelling for me and I really like the fact that there are incentives for having a larger deck. The other games I've played in this genre REALLY want you to have a small deck in order to succeed, so it was a nice change. Teamwork mechanics are also a lot of fun to take advantage of when you are able to build your deck around it!
The lag issues were very noticeable for me, and seem to be based on your deck size and passive effects since it only starts happening later in a run. It sounds like the devs are working on it though, so hopefully they can fix it soon.

I could not agree with you more! This game is addictive but your points on handheld are so true. I'm playing on an oled as well, I'm in my early(ish) 30s, and that text is so tiny, especially at the shop.

    • @nicked_fenyx
      @nicked_fenyx 2 роки тому +1

I thought that too at first (Lite player here), until I realized you can click on each item in the shop to bring it up full size without automatically buying it. I really don't mind doing that, since it also brings up the little popups that explain various effects, show any additional cards summoned by the original card, etc. Works for me.

I actually just got this one. I was on the fence myself because of the talk around small text size when handheld (I have the Lite) but I haven't had that detract from my enjoyment of the game thankfully.
On a side note, I don't really understand the big appeal for Slay the Spire. I got the game when it was on sale just to see what the big deal was and it hasn't grabbed me, like it seems to have grabbed everyone else

@@lens_hunter Usually you'll find after about 30 mins of playing a deckbuilder most will forget about aesthetics or audio and only really care about gameplay mechanics. This is really the core of these games and everything else is just polish really.

This game is unplayable on the switch IMO, i've found each card to take 5-10 seconds by the end game. It crashes, there are errors everywhere, I really like the game but it's a major slog on switch. I can't reach the developer either

Its a decent game and the first 40 hours are really fun, but its ridiculously easy to get busted runs, which turns me off completely. For deckbuilder fans that want a challenge they won't find it here. This is too easy which makes it too forgettable and not worth a lot of replayability. I blame the permanent upgrades which make the game 100 times easier. Very bad balance.
