Kind of sucks when you start playing in the evening then you look out your dorm window and see the sun rising and you're like crap I forgot to go to bed and it was time for class. Totally agree here. The Diablo 3 port, as a whole, is glorious. I really wanted a portable Diablo game for years and to get the first one that does that and be 60fps even in handheld mode. The same game in which a half decent laptop would be brought to it's knees, still amazes me. A good civilization port and Smash, alone, is something I could spend the entire holiday season on. But then, I still have Monster Hunter Gen U and Dark Souls to play. Yep. And I didn't even mention Pokemon. What's greater is that Civ 6 is said to have perhaps the best end-game gameplay of the series.

There is very few games that get my attention enough to buy across multiple platforms! This game I got on ps4 and switch which is so sweet! Once I get a place that I can use my pc again I will be getting on steam! Its a cheap buy when on sale for the vanilla game but grabbing the platnum edition on sale is worth it, so much great dlc content!
Gave my wife a Switch for xmas. Haven't had a Nintendo in the house since the 64, and we live it. I need my own because she is always on it. I will be picking up a couple copies of this game when I do. Live this series.
Finally pulled the trigger on this game after months of being on the fence. I'm afraid it's going to be too complicated/deep/difficult for me. But for $15, it was too enticing to pass up. I got through the in game tutorial and have just started my first official game. lol I spent almost 2 hours on turn 1 just reading through a ton of Civilpedia entries! haha...bloody hell I love how all the entries are linked to the "Y" button. I can tell already this game is going to completely hook me. I'm diving right in and loving it! It's overwhelming...but in a good, exciting way! I just made a Scout. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta be off to go decide between Animal Husbandry, Pottery, or Mining! :D lol
I'm UK based right now and saw the game in the PSN store on sale to a crazy cheap price...But always just wanted to take it on the go. Best Switch price here was never under £22. So just got myself a US account and picked it up for $20. Man its so awesome you can play Switch games from any region
😁 👍🏼 Hi Art! It’s also an honor to hear your exquisite review of an awesome turn based rts game!!! 😊 it is such a joy to listen to you share your Delights in the gameplay of Civilization VI!!!
Oh it will, and that bezel will be almost gone. The battery will be larger. The Switch is designed to let them easily roll out the Switch XL. Thanks for watching dude! (Mark)
Great review! I’ve been sitting on purchasing this game or not but after watching this review I think I have decided. Especially since it is so cheap right now! Ty
Nice review. Currently playing D3 but will have to check this out eventually. Maybe a Total War game will be on the Nintendo Switch at some point, without all the extra Paid DLC and pre-order 💩.
For those wondering, the missing PC content besides Rise and Fall includes Persia, Macedon, Australia, Poland and Vikings. A pity (and it should have knocked a few points down in its value, imho).
Yea I didn't really agree with the value either. Missing a chunk of content and no online as well as no local hot seat? And for a full 60 bucks? I'll get this game when it's in the 30 range but not for a full 60. At least the diablo port that cost 60 had 100% of the content as well as online and local wifi play
And all 3 reviews I've watched say it doesnt so I'm inclined to go with their combined word more than a random post. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but until all the reviews get updated I'm going with what's most confirmed
This makes me somewhat optimistic that Paradox after already releasing Cities will somehow get Stellaris ported to the Switch.. It's by far my favorite 4x/grand strategy game and probably favorite game of all time. I used to play Age of Empires from middle school to high school and those games blew me away, losing lots of sleep and forgetting to do homework.. I got Stellaris a couple years back and the same joy I had when I was young returned and am constantly blown away when I play it. Only problem is.. I have a 1080 gpu and i-76700K cpu, 32 gig of ram, the whole nine yards and late game I get frame drops so am not sure it could be done or done without losing features.. Man, if they figure it out, I'll lose my mind for sure though lol
Crusader Kings 2 would be fun on the Switch. But, that game requires quite the CPU, or it'll start to slow down in the later years. Plus the game has tonnnnnnnnns of DLC.
I am playing a game of EU4 right now mate, though I didn't particularly like Stellaris, I have to say. Starts great, but gets a bit dry....just my humble opinion of course!
It feels fresh to me, I know it won’t be for everyone, but about two hours in, I think it’s solid. I just wish I could use my pro controller, hopefully they patch that in down the line
I remember playing sid revolution demo on ps3....i completely sucked at it but it was soooo fun! Glad to see this on the switch and i can continue playing it again since i dont have a good pc to play on!
@@kyleledermann2473 i litteraly figured that the moment I started playing civ 6 a couple days ago lol. Super steep learning curve for a beginner like me
Interested to know if anyone else is also doing a stress test for the game. Turn resolution usually goes longer once you get further or if you play on a larger map with more AI and City states. Anyone tried the Huge Map with Max AI players+Max City States and no quick move/combat? Currently sitting at turn 57 and resolutions range from 50 seconds to 1 minute plus depending on what is happening in your immediate vicinity/areas you can see and whether or not you get interrupted by messages from other civs
SwitchUp Thanks. Will report on my findings here too. I am a bit slower though because I am practically new to Civ 6 despite sitting on the base game+all DLCs and Rise and Fall but never had a chance to touch em.
How have I never played this. I loved mount and blade 2 but sadly had to sell alot of my stuff includimg my pc so now I got a switch and I'm getting this game.
Couldnt wait to pick this up and I've been having a blast so far. My only concern is how well the game will run once you get to the late game on a huge map. Even on a decent PC it can start to chug because of the large number of units and cities.
Ok so I fired up the PC version and I just remembered that for some weird reason this version is missing the tactical view. I am kinda sad now that it does because the tactical view was good.
@@SwitchUpYt It was pretty handy but not a deal breaker. Other than that they actually shortened the voiced intro skipping the Civ introduction and reading from the leader intro onward. Unfortunately on some leader it is obvious when you hear Sean Bean seemingly reading halfway through the intro.
First game of the series for me. I’ve always been on the fence about whether this game is my kind of genre. Watching your review helped me make that decision to get it! About to kick it off right now! XD
Was hoping you’d do this, I can’t watch it yet as I’m midway through the IGN marathon NVC about Ocarina but I’m hoping to watch it soon as I am very interested but I’ve heard not only is there no online, they won’t be bringing expansions to it either and that baffles me.
@@TDigitech Yes, I managed it quite easily. There is a lot to learn and the game kind of dumps you at the end of the tutorial and let's you work the rest out. Play around with the controls or look at the button mappings but yeah if you're a semi ok gamer you will be fine. (Mark)

Oof. I’m horrible at strategy type games. But hey, it’s excellent to see this series be the first console to have this entry in the franchise. The diversity of games on switch is starting to grow ever more. Do wish there was a demo on the eshop for the game. Not sure if there is.
It would make sense - but I think the demo would be huge as you need to play a good few hours before you really get to grips with a series like this. (Mark)
You've got much more control here over your settlements and many many other little details. It's been a while since I played that, but I enjoyed it a lot. I think you'd enjoy this but it's a steeper learning curve. Mark
1- If something is happening and you tapped your joysticks, you can't go see what happened even if you hear it happening(something is being attacked somewhere, might be you, who knows) 2- There is insufficient details on potential technologies and whatever else in the learning stage. You basically get that you'll be able to build this or do that, with no option to read what that means or what the thing does. So you're asked to try it blindly, and sort of figure it out. 3- There's a real imbalance between the agressivity of barbarians, and neighboring civs. Barbarians will spawn often and overwhelm you, even more than previous titles. They'll actually be a threat, consistently, especially in the transitional stage when you want to travel by sea. There's going to be about 10 barbarian ships roaming around at the stage you begin to, and they'll all gang up on any unit that can be attacked. This is relative to neigboring civs that will just coexist with no aggressivity forever. 4- There's a face for what the game wants you to do..but she's just there. There's no info as to why she's there, or what she thinks you should do. She's just there, a face, on an option. Ok fine, I'll pick it. -- I do like how the happiness system was turned into housing and activities....but for much of the beginning stages you're just stuck lacking both, not really having options to solve anything. You're just hoping you'll learn something at some point. Religion is cool, unclear what the effects are. Red turns to green. The icon changes. But nothing really feels different in terms of effects. Roads being built through commerce exchange is nice, but again, it's hard to know the impact with the city states. Yes you'll trade +1 food and a few other things, but the changes of relationships with city states is not as obvious as older titles. In Civ 4, you'd gain their vision after your relationship became a certain level. You'd gain a unit per x amount of terms. In Civ 6 you get more icons, you're their best friend... ok ? So ? Nothing 'feels' like it changed.
So, I was waiting to see if the controls were decent before picking this up. That’s the whole reason for me buying this on the switch for 60 bucks. I love playing on the TV. So, now that we know the controls are good and this is probably the best TV version of civilization, I’m definitely picking this up. I’ve never played Civ 6 yet. Love 5. I think I’ll love this too.
Just got this for 5 bucks on sale. Very excited been playing since civ 4.

This game looks really interesting! I’ve spend so many hours playing CIV III back in days. Might buy this, but later as now is Pokemo Let’s Go Eevee time! 😁
SwitchUp dont blame you. Civ games are fun and turn hours into minutes and it seems like Let's Go ditched a lot of RPG and battle mechanics from other pokemon games.
I had this game for one of my birthdays but didn't get around to playing it. Then I traded it in because I heard the console ports were poorly optimized. After seeing this review, I think I've regretted making that decision without even playing the game for myself. Maybe, I'll wait for it to go on sale before I pick it up again...
I have a Nintendo Switch Lite, so I can ONLY play in handheld, which is my preference. However, I am worried about the text being uncomfortably tiny on the small screen. There looks like so much text, icons, and menu systems, that I'm afraid of eye strain. Maybe there's some sort of text/font/icon size customization? Can I get a response on this?
Ah rts are always tricky in console, but it looks like the nail it here in CIV, looks like a great game, I remember playing age of empires but I know that there are not the same, just love the different flavors of this type of games, specially in the ever expansion of switch library, I really like the different routes to win a game, is always nice to learn something new every day and history is a nice way to do it, love to start simple and then being more complicated just like any civilization, would love a campaign or something but I understand that you make your own fun, nice that your experience was as fun as it was, awww hope that the expansion comes later, and this game is perfect for online but guess the solo play will do, congratulations on the review, have a lovely day :)
One more civilization story... On one campaign that I was playing I had thought to have won the game but it wasn't over. As luck would have it I had to discover the entire map before I stumbled upon a tiny little speck of an island. Here on this island lived one phalanx. Not sure I spelled that right. I killed him and won!
I’m trying to find out how to recruit religious units on switch and and I can’t figure it out It’s on my units tab but it won’t let me select it Edit: if you exit queue mode on the city screen, it works

You're most welcome it really is a great game, be sure to subscribe for all things Switch. (Mark)
I’m mad that they didn’t include Hotseat in this game, would’ve been absolutely perfect for the Switch.
You know, I haven't seen a hotseat game since Worms for PSP. We should have more of them. Also, another Worms. That series is great.
Thanks my dude. Stick with the channel for all your Switch reviews! Have a happy new year! (Mark)
On the lookout for this game in the black friday deals :>
Right now it's on sale for $30
20 bucks best buy
$20 USD on Amazon.
Just picked this up for $15. Thank you for the review!
:D lol
Haha great stuff! Mark
Nice, just bought the platinum edition on switch and feeling the same way!
I'm UK based right now and saw the game in the PSN store on sale to a crazy cheap price...But always just wanted to take it on the go. Best Switch price here was never under £22. So just got myself a US account and picked it up for $20. Man its so awesome you can play Switch games from any region
Does this still work?
Not played properly since Civ 3. Getting this soon and I can't wait to lose days of my life to it.
😁 👍🏼 Hi Art! It’s also an honor to hear your exquisite review of an awesome turn based rts game!!! 😊 it is such a joy to listen to you share your Delights in the gameplay of Civilization VI!!!
Picked this up on sale 2 hours before it ends!! Loved this review
Great review! Damn it, my SD card is too small for so many great games... I hope the next Switch has a bit more storage space built into it.
Oh it will, and that bezel will be almost gone. The battery will be larger. The Switch is designed to let them easily roll out the Switch XL. Thanks for watching dude! (Mark)
@@SwitchUpYt any idea when the new switch will be available? Is it wise to buy a Switch now?
Its better expanding to sd cards than built in storage because sd cards are always expanding to no limits
@@metroaide0224 you'll be missing too much fun waiting. Just buy and resell the old one when new is available.
Great review! I’ve been sitting on purchasing this game or not but after watching this review I think I have decided. Especially since it is so cheap right now! Ty
Ive decided to buy this game based on this review. I love strategy games but i have never played a civilisation game. Hope i like it as much as you.
Same, let me know how you get on my friend! (Mark)
It's my first Civ game and it's like a black hole. It sucks you in and you just get lost in it.
Can’t wait for this. I’m hoping to pick it up for Christmas, this alongside smash, let’s go, and starlink, it’s been a really awesome few mo the!
Few months! Got there eventually haha!
Haha yeah, we feel the same. You can probably hear in my voice how much I'm excited about this one. (Mark)
I'm so happy they did this, I haven't had a PC and I've really missed CIV.
Yeh it's really good! (Mark)
Nice review. Currently playing D3 but will have to check this out eventually. Maybe a Total War game will be on the Nintendo Switch at some point, without all the extra Paid DLC and pre-order 💩.
That really would be great!! (Mark)
Wow nice.. fantastic review Mark 👍🏽😁👍🏽😁..
Thanks Craig, you a fan of the series? (Mark)
SwitchUp I never played any civilization games before.. I miss out on these and Pokémon games.. yes I know, sad 😔...
Your videos are awesome bro :) subbed
Great to have you onboard! Nice one! (Mark)
@@SwitchUpYt keep up the good reviews man! Great content!!
Was so lucky to have gotten a physical copy of the game for $9
Ikr?!
Mines coming in the mail with Spyro Reignited Trilogy! Switch time!!
Wow! That's a lot of words. Great review as usual. There's so much to do in this game. I wish I av the time but this is too vast for me.
Hey Leo, yeah there really we're I wrote 2000 words for this review lol. Appreciate you watching it! (Mark)
Is that a mod on 06:03? They don't look familiar to me.
For those wondering, the missing PC content besides Rise and Fall includes Persia, Macedon, Australia, Poland and Vikings. A pity (and it should have knocked a few points down in its value, imho).
Thank you Guatavo that's really useful. Let's hope 2k bring those later (free 😜) (Mark)
I just bought this game..and I'd like to inform everyone that the rise and DLC nation's are included with switch version and the game is fantastic x
@@chomp7927 the person above you just said it has the dlc
I feel ya!! To be fair, we've seen some insane ports already. (Mark)
Excellent review as usual. Thanks
Thank you good sir! (Mark)
Civilization VI was listed on Amazon with four DLCs included for $19.99 on Dec. 6th. Remembering that SwitchUp loved the game, I insta-purchased it.
Bought miny for €45 today, first civilization game ever for me.
This review had won me over.
Purchased before end of review. Thx for recommendation.
Great video Mark! It’s a shame I spent my money on Pokemon today, I’m afraid this will have to wait
No worries Joel - How are you getting on with Pokemon? Any good? (Mark)
Cheers dude!
Revolution was a watered down version of civ too. Civ 6 is the real deal on console!
@@kyleledermann2473 i litteraly figured that the moment I started playing civ 6 a couple days ago lol. Super steep learning curve for a beginner like me
Games like this eat time like pacman eats dots...
So so true haha! (Mark)
Welll! I am not even going to be doing anything else apart from playing switch games at the amount of good games coming out! :D
Hehehe! (Mark)
I've been looking forward to this one.
I never got into this series, but I was curious to know what it was about in terms of actual gameplay.
Hey Yuri - yeah, it is a very fun game indeed. So ridiculously addictive it's not even funny. Hope you're having a great Friday! (Mark)
I'm testing for you right now my friend. (Mark)
SwitchUp Thanks. Will report on my findings here too. I am a bit slower though because I am practically new to Civ 6 despite sitting on the base game+all DLCs and Rise and Fall but never had a chance to touch em.
@@TowerBooks3192 hehehe isn't that always the way!!? (Mark)
Just got this for $15 at Target, so excited!
How have I never played this. I loved mount and blade 2 but sadly had to sell alot of my stuff includimg my pc so now I got a switch and I'm getting this game.
Great review I’m excited to get my hands on it.
Thanks man, a very cool game indeed! (Mark)
Couldnt wait to pick this up and I've been having a blast so far. My only concern is how well the game will run once you get to the late game on a huge map. Even on a decent PC it can start to chug because of the large number of units and cities.
Yeah I am sure it will chug to a degree, but in a game like this - it's so slow paced as long as it's not shocking we should be ok! (Mark)
@@laceyyaas8128 Go to bed!
Ok so I fired up the PC version and I just remembered that for some weird reason this version is missing the tactical view. I am kinda sad now that it does because the tactical view was good.
That's a shame, not an issue for me really. (Mark)
The no online play is a shame but other than that, it looks to have been totally nailed! Great review! Really is a great time to be a gamer!
I'm sat here playing flipping Civilization 6 on a Nintendo Switch hehe this is crazy! (Mark)
First game of the series for me. I’ve always been on the fence about whether this game is my kind of genre. Watching your review helped me make that decision to get it! About to kick it off right now! XD
Excellent, the first few hours are pretty tough going to learn the game. Stick with it though it will click! (Mark)
Actually thinking of buying a switch for this
I would definitely recommend it! (Mark)
AMAZING game. The Switch is a fantastic system. You will be glad you did!!
Just did :)
Same dude. Now the lite is out 😁
@@SwitchUpYt But the AI is bad!!
I see it on sale for $20 and was Obsessed with Majesty back in the day so I think this I’m getting it!
Was hoping you’d do this, I can’t watch it yet as I’m midway through the IGN marathon NVC about Ocarina but I’m hoping to watch it soon as I am very interested but I’ve heard not only is there no online, they won’t be bringing expansions to it either and that baffles me.
That is strange - regardless I'm sold on this being on Nintendo Switch for sure man. Really does play well! (Mark)
Just as an update, they added the expansions as of today (or yesterday🤔👌🏽)
Now we just need Age Of Empires on the Switch 💖
Solid review! I'm going to go pickup Civ 6 just cause of this!
Great stuff, cheers man! Be sure to join the channel (if you didn't already!) Enjoy the game! (Mark)
Actually I kinda feel like this game should be rated higher. But yeah pick this game up.
As a newcomer, is it easy to pick this up, learn and play?
@@TDigitech Yes, I managed it quite easily. There is a lot to learn and the game kind of dumps you at the end of the tutorial and let's you work the rest out. Play around with the controls or look at the button mappings but yeah if you're a semi ok gamer you will be fine. (Mark)
@@Jl994-f5u It's just the lack of those promised features docked it a couple of points. Still my highest ever score other than Hollow Knight :D Must dash, empires to rule old boy! (Mark)
Imo another must own for switch so great they put in local 4 player multiplayer play.Wonder will we get online in a later update hope so would be a great update if so .Great review
(Mark)
never played this before but glad to see the switch library diversify further
Couldn't agree more my friend, this is the one I've been waiting for! (Mark)
It's on sell yall for like $6
Sale* 👀
What are the differences between this and Civ Revolution?
I've played Civ 1 and Civ: Call to Power for years. Civ Revolution I've tried.
You've got much more control here over your settlements and many many other little details. It's been a while since I played that, but I enjoyed it a lot. I think you'd enjoy this but it's a steeper learning curve. Mark
1- If something is happening and you tapped your joysticks, you can't go see what happened even if you hear it happening(something is being attacked somewhere, might be you, who knows)
2- There is insufficient details on potential technologies and whatever else in the learning stage.
--
I do like how the happiness system was turned into housing and activities....but for much of the beginning stages you're just stuck lacking both, not really having options to solve anything.
Yeah it really is a great version I'm very impressed. (Mark)
The only problem playing on a 40in screen is that some parts of the game gets cut off on the borders.
wayne r go into settings and adjust screen size
there is no screen size option on the Switch version @@JokinJoe
Just got this for 5 bucks on sale. Very excited been playing since civ 4.
This game looks really interesting! I’ve spend so many hours playing CIV III back in days. Might buy this, but later as now is Pokemo Let’s Go Eevee time! 😁
Hehe I have to say I prefer this :) (Mark)
Just got my switch, got both Let's Go's and downloading civ 6 RN.
It's just come on xbox and I am playing it right now, loving it.
Thanks my friend - it's really great that we're getting these larger titles for review now. I'm delighted to be honest! (Mark)
Cool! I’ve been looking for a game to get my father into gaming - I wonder if this is the one
Is this the one?
One more civilization story... On one campaign that I was playing I had thought to have won the game but it wasn't over. As luck would have it I had to discover the entire map before I stumbled upon a tiny little speck of an island. Here on this island lived one phalanx. Not sure I spelled that right. I killed him and won!
LOL!
Japanese phalanx hiding since ww2 surviving on jungle foraging
I’m trying to find out how to recruit religious units on switch and and I can’t figure it out
It’s on my units tab but it won’t let me select it
Edit: if you exit queue mode on the city screen, it works
