- He was one of the great enhancement talents of all-time. "Pistol" Pete Sanchez put so many wrestlers over to help them launch into the stars they became. Sadly, he's gone now.
Thanks for keeping the old school wrestling memories alive Bill
Hope we dont lose bill he last of a dying breed
@@Altezza447 bill is over 80 years old so it’s only a matter of time before he’s next
On January 3rd 1976 at Madison Square Garden, Pete Sanchez wrestled Ric Flair in Flair’s WWWF debut.
Saw that!! Awesome!!
way't what?! i thought Rics wwf debut was sep/oct 1991?! grrr
WOOOOOOOO
@@OikPoinFiveWhen he was part of the NWA circuit he’d be loaned out to different promotions and that was probably one of those times.
Bill Apter is everything Dave Meltzer wishes he could be.
Bill Apter And Dave Meltzer Get PAID To Write And Talk About This Wonderful Thing We All Love Called Professional Wrestling…They Are Both Making A Living Doing What They Love To Do…so in that respect I think we all wish we could be like Bill Apter And Dave Meltzer!
@@charlesgreen8703Dave gets paid to stir up drama, push certain wrestlers in the Meltzer echo chamber, and speculate. Bill Apter has been shown to actually be credible. Which is why everyone in the wrestling community likes him while a lot of people despise Meltzer.
@@charlesgreen8703Dave is nothing compared to Bill.
I met Pete once at Jack Witchi's Arena in late 70's. He was very friendly and seemed like a nice guy.
Rest in Peace, "Pistol" Pete Sanchez 🙏🏿
please dont say that just yet. we're knot ready. wait for the world to catch up first, okay? ok. thanks.
Bill...thanks for update.🇨🇦
Ric Flair's first opponent at MSG.
Sad. I remember seeing him in a match on Ric Flair's first dvd collection, Pete was Flair's opponent in his Madison Square Garden debut match (77 or 78). Rest in peace.
Yes, definitely. Good stuff
I remember Pete Sanchez as a "goodie" and I thought that he did okay for himself, wins and losses wise. Yet another part of my childhood is gone. R.I.P. Mr. Sanchez.
Pete has died? Oh no! Pete Sanchez was friends with Bruno Sammartino RIP. Thanks for the sad update Mr. Apter.
Rest easy, Pistol. Heaven's locker room just got a lot better.
Thank you, Mr. Apter. You have always been a class act and represented the business so well. Sorry to hear about Mr. Sanchez.
Thanks Bill for keeping us updated on everything, so sad to hear this and my prayers for him and his family...
Bill is a treasure. Thanks for sharing these stories.
Appreciate you doing these videos.. I will now search on UA-cam for Pete...
Enjoy your weekend, my friend..
Thank you Bill
I remember him. Used to love reading all the wrestling magazines. Had subscriptions when I was a teenager.
I had to do a double take ....when I first glanced at this I thought it read that Bill Aptor himself had passed....My heart sank....Now, I dont like hearing of the death of anyone, but I'm glad I read that wrong 😅
Yup
I remember PPS.
Thank you, Bill and Davey.
I REMEMBER HIS TEAMING WITH MANUEL SOTO
Yep, I was a kid then and they were a pretty good mid-card team for a while. RIP Pete.
Such a good guy thanks for keeping us updated! Praying for his family! RIP Pistol Pete Sanchez
Thanks Bill
We love you Bill! Thank you for all you've done for the business I love
Yes, I remember him from the '70s. Wasn't he in a tag team with Manuel Soto?
Much respect to Bill Apter!!! .. i still read my old PWI magazines from the 70s and 80s.
Pete Sanchez was Ric Flairs first TV opponent in WWWF .
Leo Burke died too
RIP "Pistol" Pete Sanchez !
Leo Burk and Pistol Pete Sanchez
Condolences to their families
RIP. i remember as a kid, i was like 10, in the eighties seeing Pete live at a show in NJ near the shore and Sanchez actually won. nobody else seemed to care, but i was cheering. i used to love going to live events and seeing enhancement vs enhancement matches. seeing these guys who i saw get dominated weekly on tv winning matches enthralled me. i have no idea so many were actually stars in the indy scene or territories. great memories. hope he had a good life.
My thoughts and prayers 🙏 for you my friend on the your loss. Rough Cuts Sal lasardo
I miss the old PWI magazine and The Wrestler
Sad news he was my first favorite wrestler when my family moved temporarily to PR and he wrestled as Gino Caruso. Thanks Pete and RIP.
Pete Sanchez and Manuel Soto were a great tag team!
YES!
My condolence’s to Pistols Familia One of the greats. Thanks Bill
I remember him…First or second TV Match on the card…Two drop kicks, would miss the third and heel would then destroy him
Thank you so very much for this information!! RIP MY FRIEND!! YOU ARE IN GODS LOVING ARMS NOW!!
Pete Sanchez worked his way up the WWWF ladder and had a successful tag team with Manuel Soto in the early 70's........They challenged for the title. Pete was good!!!!
Forever Heavenly Respect...
I only knew Pete from the earlier 1980s when Vince McMahon in his play by play would refer to him as “the veteran” Pete Sanchez.
Pete Sanchez always topnotch.
Not surprising those guys lived a hard life! May he rest in peace!
Saw “Pistol “
Pete on many occasions in the Northeast.
Very Talented…! R.I.P.
One of my favorites growing up...
I grew up in NJ with the WWWF. Pete Sanchez RIP😢. Very fond memories of Pete wrestling at local shows as well as at MSG. Thanks Mr. Apter.
Pete was enjoyable 2watch. When I started watching in late 70’s there was enhancement guys who did nothing but sold & guys like Sanchez, SD Jones, Johnny Rivera, etc who got in a little bit of offense & were enjoyable to watch & fairly popular with the crowds
Pete Sanchez... Oh yes I remember him. RIP Pete. 🙏
Pete Sanchez was a very good hand. RIP Pete
Thanks Bill.
The Apache Pistol Pete? Thanks for YOUR life's work, Bill.
Pete always gave us a great match .
Love Ya Mr. Apter!
I remember him. Saturday nights on Ch.9, N.Y. Great fun, great times. I think Pete was short statured. RIP & thanks.
Pistol Pete Sanchez and Pistol Pez Whatley, both Pistols gone now. RIP to both of them. Amen.
RIP Pete Sanchez
RIP Pete Sanchez.
"Pistol" Pete wasn't a bad wrestler at all during his WWWF days. Should have been more of a mid card grappler just like his teammate Manuel Soto - the latter found more success in other affiliations esp in the South. I remember how he was introduced as "the popular Pete Sanchez" as the ladies had a particular fondness for him.
RIP
Soto and Sanchez had a very strong tag team in the early 70's who challenged for the titled. Soto also teamed with Victor Rivera and may have briefly held the WWWF tag title.
@@joeblow7407
I believe they contended for International title belts but were defeated by the Valiant brothers. Cyclone Soto had a brother and they reached mid card status when they wrestled in Florida - very good ring technician.
Wow another brother gone too soon rest in peace brother praying for your family and friends
I remember him from the Pro wrestling illustrated magazines
Thank you Bill R.I.P
Pistol Pez Whatley!
Wrong Pistol
Shaska/Pistol Pez Whatley died young about 20 years-ago.
Rest In Peace.
RIP Pistol Pete! Bill, you're a Legend ... SEE YOU AT THE MATCHES!!!
I remember Pistol Pete as I have been watching wrestling since 1968. R.I.P. Pete. 😥
Rest In peace
Blessing to the Sanchez family.
The name was familiar for a younger fan Flair has mentioned him. He wrestled him in Ric's WWWF debut (Googled it)
knew it sounded familiar
Rest Easy Pistol Pete
Very respectful. Very nice.
I used to watch wrestling on TV from the early 1980's, when Harley Race was the 6 or 7-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion and when Bob Backlund was still the reigning WWF World Heavyweight champion, to the late 1990's when Race & Backlund were already retired from active wrestling. Unfortunately, I don't remember watching "Pistol Pete" Sanchez in action. I do remember other jobbers in action like SD "Special Delivery" Jones, The Brooklyn Brawler, Iron Mike Sharpe, Duane Gill, and Barry Horowitz. Anyway, RIP to Pistol Pete. 🙏
I saw Pete so many times. Loved it when he teamed with somebody like Soto or Gonzales. He always had his moments but always did the job. RIP
Didn’t Ric Flair have his debut match in the WWWF against him?
Never seen a dead guy report someone else’s death before
RIP
Rest In Peace…🙏🏾🙏🏾
RIP Pistol Pete Sanchez. Just found out this morning Former North American Heavyweight Champion Leo Burke died on July 24th. All the best to the family friends and fans of both men
Nice to see this 2024 few legends have Died .Rip mr. Sanchez
God be with you Pisol Pete Sanchez!
Thank you sir!
Had me scared for a second Bill Apter had died going by the thread title. 😧
You should be celebrating his life. I'm guessing the man was 80+ years old......Especially when the average age of a wrestler is around 50
R.I.P 🙏🙏
i don't know if you reported it or not but a day or so ago LEO BURKE passed away.
i remember reading about him inadvertently through Pistol Pez Watley.
Rest in Peace to Pete Sanchez and GOD Speed Amen 🙏
R.I.P. Pistol Pete Sanchez
Bill Apter reminds me of Fonzie from Happy Days!
Pete always gave his best! Should have won more matches!! Sad news indeed!! :(
In 1986 there was another Jobber by the same name
RIP PISTOLA PETE
People die. Its called life. We all have a cycle and when the time is up thats it.
Rip Pistol Pete
Bill looks half dead himself. Jeezus
Bill looks tired
Thought it was you Billy boy
There was another Pete Sanchez who was enhancement talent in the WWF and AWA in the late 1980s. His real name is Pete Cotto and he is a pastor now.
This Pete Sanchez was mentioned in an article in an Apter mag about the horrible sportsmanship of the faces at SummerSlam '89. Sanchez had won a match vs. Manuel Soto but controversially. He asked for the microphone and said he didn't win fairly and wanted the match awarded to Soto. They praised him for his sportsmanship while blasting King Duggan for blatantly cheating in his bout.
Pete Sanchez I and Manuel Soto had a successful tag team in the early 70's. Soto was not around in 1989.
Sad
Is Dean Silverstone still alive? Thanks for updates on grapples I watched in 60s
Dean passed away a number of years ago. Sorry, I don't know the exact date.
I hate that term 'Enhancement Talent' b/c it sounds like the name of 'Fluffer' on a po rn movie. What is so bad about the term 'Jobber'? Say it to yourself - JOB-BER.
People have this tendency of just accepting things without question and that's how tyrants become kings. Does that term 'Jobber' actually sound offensive? It's a cool title. But 'Enhancement Talent'? Really? Me personally, I'd keep calling myself jobber but I hate being a follower and I believe that's why our country has the turned into a shi* show that last 4 yrs - because people just followed and didn't do their research and they followed the crowd onto a rickety, leaky, ship.
Who???
Show some respect dummy.
Pistol Pez Whatley!
Rest In Peace…🙏🏾🙏🏾
