I am a public school teacher. America needs to fix the public education system. My parents graduated high school in 1950 and got great jobs! Maher is right about college but he needs to speak up about the degradation of public education caused by failed state governments!
State government has something to do with it, but as a student of public schools in several different states, it really just comes down to the teachers, and (anecdotally) it seems like 75% or more simply aren’t that smart and aren’t that good at teaching. Kind of is what it is. Kids have to get out and into the world to really learn…public school isn’t going to do it.
I'm not sure its wholly the public education system, though that is a factor. It is many jobs are companies now and companies want people to have 10 plus experience to get into anything before hiring them and/or algorithms that pick resumes that keep people out of certain job markets. Most other jobs that don't require this tend to have depressed wages. America is the service economy, restaurants and markets (while many market jobs are drying up). ---or something real estate or construction related which you often still need additional schooling.
I’m a Canadian, the education system IMO has declined. Americans talk about being the best country in the world. All the time. He’s right, it is a scam. But Bill still needs to refine his argument. Employers demand degrees because it offers another piece of important information about the candidate. Good luck changing that. And until then, not getting that piece of paper the world is demanding is bad advice. Unless you’re absolutely positive you want to go into the trades or start your own business, you might as well open up your options with an undergrad. The people who is suppose to have the legitimacy but have a horrible track record are most dangerous because their legitimacy doesn't come from being right. It comes from something else and history has those examples too. In every period, there is no shortage of people saying things that turned out to be wrong. “If you look at the statistics, people with a college degree just make a lot more money. It’s a ticket to the middle class.” So…. People should or should not go to college? Crazy how he contradicts himself
I'm a big Bill fan, but sometimes he just gets it wrong, and here he blows his own case. Bill, Cornell graduate, says college is completely unnecessary, a scam, then in almost the next breath he says if you go to college you make a lot more money (at 19:25), which is, obviously, one of the reasons to go to college.
I listen to Bill Maher but I do get tired of his negative criticism of pretty much everything.. He also has an air of arrogance which can be annoying if you listen to him too long.

But, I always purchase the fabricated ones because they travel well and outlast the real thing. Often, they look better too. And yes! I have allergic reactions to nature. I might have been manufactured myself, come to think of it.
College mattered back when about 5% of people had a degree but unfortunately as decades rolled on it has become watered down. What's truly amazing is how the programs at community colleges have become way more valuable than a bachelor degree. I would take a 2 year RN, respiratory tech, X-Ray tech and certain certifications over the vast majority of bachelor degree programs. Most bachelor and higher degrees are good for becoming a teacher/professor but unfortunately those jobs all too often pay like $hit.
Bill is great and necessary voice. I don’t agree with everything he says, but he is rare individual that is able to see both sides. I’ve always wondered who is the Bill Maher of the right?
I don't get it, he says college is a scam, but it's a ticket to the middle class and you make more money? That sounds like exactly why kids go to college.

I disagree with you Bill. It isn’t that a lot of Republican’s are Trumpers. It is the fact they only believe in ONE FREAKIN party!!! The entire problem today is the thought process that the people can ONLY vote for one party or the other. We MUST pick sides. It is total crap and creates what we have today. 😉🤔🤔🤔
That was really funny! Bill Burr showed no mercy, and it was nice to see Maher knocked down a rung or two. He was great at accepting Burr's jabs. Maher speaks with such over-the-top confidence; his arrogance sometimes takes him down some bad roads. I remember him talking about annoying beeps made by sensors in cars designed to keep people from forgetting something that might be left behind (a baby for instance, or pet). And, when he talks about medical things... well, he probably shouldn't. I both really like and dislike Bill Maher.
I'm getting up there. 50 in three years. I find myself totally ignoring almost everything anyone under 30 thinks or says or believes. 😢 Wisdom comes with experience and experience comes with age. I learn something new every day. I'm not above changing my mind when shown FACTS and DATA. Don't give a damn about what your feelings tell you... ❤
Fairness Doctrine. READ IT. However, now we are comparing truth to conspiracies. So, we should just show both "sides" for what they say / believe. We need to have definitive beliefs and then elect leaders who inspire and listen to us. We all need to READ THE CONSTITUTION. Make a book club! We need to connect to our earth, food, water, air. Our own existence is at risk. Our existence does not depend on jobs. It depends on natural resources (which are disappearing), and then jobs. We need to clean up centuries of waste to save our earth. I'm not even a tree-hugger. I became interested in our earth by recycling. Now, I am afraid of what's coming if we don't agree to come together and save ourselves!
Maher is so wrong about college. He is right about the cost, which should come way down and in fact, public universities should be based on income levels or be almost tuition free based on taxes, and he is also right about people who go to college do earn more money, often double what someone who didn’t go earns. But he is wrong about his own conclusions and higher education not being important. Those who graduate from university do have much higher levels of critical and often creative thinking skills. That’s why military officers must have a college degree (or even graduate degree) in order to excel in the ranks.
Before you pat yourself too much on the back, Bill, for laughing at prophecies you made that came true (in your mind) do not forget that you made fun of Ann Coulter back in 2016 for saying that Trump would win and you made fun of Dennis Prager for saying that men will claim they can get pregnant. You’re not as clever as you think.
He's become the grumpy old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn. I've been watching him since his first show, he's less misogynistic than he was back then, but he thinks he's a big truth-teller, bahahaha. Ya right.
You go Bill. It takes hours of re doing and searching to find some language that contains a tiny bit of truth. I know more about poop retention, no pun intended, than both sides of the truth.
Bill‘s position on colleges extreme. He looks at a very broad issue and tried to use a broad position to resolve it. This idea of we don’t need to go to college anymore. That’s stupid what you don’t need people going to college and studying for that don’t pay the significant amount of money. The problem is, that is a lot of words and nobody wants to eat a lot of airtime with a lot of words that requires a lot of processing and we don’t usually go that deep into things. We just don’t earn enough money now so they shouldn’t go to college nobody bothers to ask what are they studying? If you were studying, you would know it isn’t that they shouldn’t go to college that they shouldn’t go to college and study that. The American dream is to have a college degree to be able to say I graduated from university X or to be able to say my son my daughter went to university y. The problem is, we don’t think about how much it cost to go to school and once you’re done with school, how much money will you earn afterwards? Bill also made a mistake when he said there was never really a time when college was useful to the United States that is so untrue. The race to space disproves that argument. If we go back to the 1950s on the 1960s, we saw that the competition Between the United States and Russia fueled people going to college and studying math and science. When they studied math and science guess what they were able to earn a decent living and they helped win the race to space. In case people forgot we were losing every battle in that race. We only won at the very end. No, we need college level education in America, but bill is correct. It is a scam. It needs to be reformed. A majority of the material you study in college you should be able to study in high school. In fact, everything you need to get an associates degree should be learnable in high school. Yes you should be able to graduate with your traditional high school diploma but if you want, you should be able to continue going to high school for an additional timeframe and earn an associates degree you have an associates degree. It normally takes two years to earn a skilled trade, it normally takes two years to earn an associates degree. Usually that you teach students some of these skills some of these classes while they are in high school. So you can easily have two graduation ceremonies one for high school and then another one for the associates degree. Then they should have to go to a four-year college or university but guess what it won’t be four years because you spent two years studying college level material so you only have two years to go. Guess what you’ve just cut the cost of college education in half You didn’t even have to do anything too difficult. Sure you change the public education in America and you got rid of some of the junk level material we teach but that should be gone anyway. You should do the same thing at the college level, you should get rid of some of the junk material. Go look up college degree right now and you will see it is full of humanitarian or liberal arts coursework. Classes you take before your junior year to make you a better well-rounded student. You should have to take some of those classes, but man the list of classes you have to take to be well rounded, has grown over the years , the number of classes you actually have to take to be a professional. Fix that. Take out those classes you don’t need and you can actually reduce. The time of person has to go to college again reducing the cost of a college level education simple solutions that solve a major problem in America you don’t even have to reform student loans. You don’t even have to reduce the cost of tuition per credit hour. You just get rid of some of the credit hours because you don’t need them anyway no disrespect to humanitarian course loads, but they are too burdensome today’s college education.

He knows very little about actual history. His history “knowledge” is limited to what the tv tells him.
@@AMFirstPat2424 Just because someone saying something doesn't make it true. If Maher was wrong most of the time, he wouldn't have the book to publish or an audience for his show. With enough time, reality always win in the end. You can fool people for a while, but no one can fool people all the time.
The people who is suppose to have the legitimacy but have a horrible track record are most dangerous because their legitimacy doesn't come from being right. It comes from something else and history has those examples too.
In every period, there is no shortage of people saying things that turned out to be wrong. The benefit of history is that you find out who is wrong afterwards and why to derive principles and patterns.
Someone can get lucky once. But only people with good understanding of history and reality like Maher is right more often than not. He can probably reasonably also explain why he was wrong when he was wrong. He is never 100% off. When he is wrong, there is a reason for it.
@@thelastbison2241 watch any podcast, not his show, but his podcast, that he does with a person “on the right.” He consistently gets flustered and surprised with information he’s never heard of before, information that is general public knowledge. Every time he falls back on “but I’m just a comedian! I’m playing a ‘part’ on my show!”
He’s a comedian, a decent one, but not close to a historian. Nice try with all those words, bud.
@@AMFirstPat2424It shows he is not stubborn and I think he is more legitimate than some historians with a title but says things that doesn't age tell. History is full of them because human nature and problems people face doesn't change.
It is sort of like how Black Monday happened with supposedly a person with a right title saying the wrong things that turned out to be not true. My point was there is real world consequence of being wrong and sometimes repeatedly.
A difference in opinion. I respect your views though. I am just interested in the truth. I like Maher for that. In the end, it is what matters when passions goes away and normalcy returns.
“If you look at the statistics, people with a college degree just make a lot more money. It’s a ticket to the middle class.” So…. People should or should not go to college? Crazy how he contradicts himself
Bill talking about the malignant narcicism of others, is basically his version of trump projectionism
Collage does not "solve everything". It removes employment barriers..
You mean college?
More Turdy with every day. Thank you Bill for the laughs
I listen to Bill Maher but I do get tired of his negative criticism of pretty much everything.. He also has an air of arrogance which can be annoying if you listen to him too long.
If you look at these issues objectively, he is spot on with most
bill still cant admit he was wrong about saying trump was not going to leave the white house when he lost.... bill he left duh, admit you were wrong
He has TDS what do you expect
After trying to steal half the classified docs WITH him to MangyLegoLand.
Re: Paper flowers. I'm totally fascinated by something that I have no aesthetic for. I can't even make a bow of a ribbon. But, I always purchase the fabricated ones because they travel well and outlast the real thing. Often, they look better too. And yes! I have allergic reactions to nature. I might have been manufactured myself, come to think of it.
Tracy gorgeous funny witty and she got to play basketball with Bill!!! The book she’s referring to is excellent. I can’t stop reading at work.
Yes it's true, they don't look at blackboards Bill.
Bill, have California approved your shed that you've been wanting to build for 10 years yet?
Yes finally.
Bill Maher is definitely a mixed bag. For instance, when he starts giving medical advice, like opining on Covid, I turn the channel.
Bill is great and necessary voice. I don’t agree with everything he says, but he is rare individual that is able to see both sides. I’ve always wondered who is the Bill Maher of the right?
I love being the kind of person the joke is never on
I want Bill Maher for president!
I don't get it, he says college is a scam, but it's a ticket to the middle class and you make more money? That sounds like exactly why kids go to college.
I am a big fan of Bill Maher.. Universities are not the same, the world is not the same...
I've been voting for 50 years, and every single time it's been for the lesser of two evils, THAT'S what the Trumpettes see in him, he's not one of THEM!
oh people!! talk about the women’s talent to make flowers out of paper too … not only about Bill Maher.
Let's have a shout out to the paper flowers!
It depends what you want to do for a living.
I detest that the word "liberal" has been so distorted.
VERY low bar with Bill Barr 😂
The Greatest country in the Nation
“Media only presents the things they want you to hear” look at this cbs news presentation, oh yeah he’s right.
Bill's audience tends to clap more than laugh
Bill Maher diagnosing people with narcissism is a fun trip in projection 🤣
These artists are incredibly talented.
And bill is not wrong it all.
Government loans. Get government out of education. Especially colleges
Everything you need to know about Bill Maher is when Bill Burr called him out on his BS on his own podcast.
I really enjoyed my Mother’s Day listening to that one with my son
I'm getting up there. 50 in three years. I find myself totally ignoring almost everything anyone under 30 thinks or says or believes. 😢 Wisdom comes with experience and experience comes with age. I learn something new every day. I'm not above changing my mind when shown FACTS and DATA. Don't give a damn about what your feelings tell you... ❤
Please Bill, don't check your fly all the time, it's embarrassing. Otherwise, keep up the good work! 😂
Bill Maher says he's for the normie?
The normal political 1% but not the normal working class.
No way does Maher advocate for the One Percent. Do some reading on the lobby groups that run Washington.
Thankyou
Bill Maher is the pinnacle of journalism. 😊
Don't you hate it when your fingers get trapped in a mouse trap inside your pants pocket, while you anchor a show?
lol bill Maher speaking for the normal people that’s rich bill Maher speaks for the rich old guy that wants you off his lawn darn it
Fairness Doctrine.
The totally random paper flower report at the end
8:10 Bill Barr said he’ll still vote for Trump even after all the terrible truths he said about him.
Bill is by far the most unlikable person on TV.
I love him and I feel like we could be related in our thoughts.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next way she'd put her hands in her pockets. 🍿
Not to mention laughing at Ann Coulter a few weeks ago about who was shooting at the Super Bowl parade
He's become the grumpy old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn. I've been watching him since his first show, he's less misogynistic than he was back then, but he thinks he's a big truth-teller, bahahaha. Ya right.
He has definitely changed and I don’t like it.
I think when Bill stated that he said Trump will always be here, he forgot the time he laughed at Ann Coulter when she was on his show in 2016.
I seem to agree with about half of what Bill Maher says
You go Bill. It takes hours of re doing and searching to find some language that contains a tiny bit of truth. I know more about poop retention, no pun intended, than both sides of the truth.
Chief Wiggam! Oh wait, that's Bill Barr
