Whoa thanks for the super thanks Greg!
I push back by not visiting Vegas anymore. The greed and lousy attitudes of the casinos has ruined it.
No idea why people continue to visit Vegas these days. If you keep going...they'll never get the message. If you're paying it, why should they stop? Plenty of other places to visit, but you keep going and they'll keep charging.
this is very true. ive had the itch to go to vegas lately, it's just an hour flight away. but i decided i'll go somewhere else.
I used to visit Vegas yearly but I haven't been the last 2 yrs and I will probably never go back again. The prices and fees for everything there is highway robbery. I love Vegas but they will never get a dime from me again
Yep. Gumps keep thinking Vegas is the greatest place on earth in reality it’s the most overrated place on earth
Las Vegas is a unique city. There is no city like it in the United States.
"Where as in Vegas the parking is always included in the resort fee"
What are you talking about? Just about every strip casino charges resort fees and if you park there you will pay separately for parking(usually $18 to $23). Parking fees are NOT included in the resort fee. I am actually shocked you do not know this.
Travelodge, Motel 6, Super 8, Casino Royale. 😅
@@edwardinvegas Exactly, just a handful of shit hotels.
Confirmed. MGM and Caesar’s do charge for parking in addition to resort fees.
That has changed as recently as the last 2 years. Before the pandemic parking fees for guest were much less common on the Strip than they are now.
If that shoe box baseball stadium starts building on The Strip, there will be an additional $40 stadium fee besides the resort fee added on the hotel bill and for the next 30 years. Not only in Vegas but, in the entire state of Nevada, whether you stay in Primm, Laughlin, Reno, Lake Tahoe, etc. This fee stuff has entirely gotten out of hand. Thanks Steven for another informative video.👍
Kind of sad that the only real recourse is to not go to Las Vegas anymore.
Sucks. I always tell them: I don’t use the pool, spa, gym, parking, internet, room service, public bathrooms.
You sign on the dotted line, you pay………. 😢
You missed another important reason why resort fees keep rising. They travel websites like Expedia and other are paid a commission, a percentage of the hotel room that they book but, the hotel does not pay a commission on the resort fee to the likes of Expedia. So, they can increase their revenue without increasing their commission, if they raise the resort fee, but not the hotel nightly rate.
Comfort suites in Deming AZ also charges A 6% hotel fee on top of state and city taxes. Ouch!
Hi Steven, God bless you and keep up the great work.
I gamble way too much, resort fee's are waved and valet is comped as well. I am a gold MGM member, sad this year will be my last year trying to even keep it. lol
So, I pay resorts fees so the casino can bribe you to gamble even though we have access to the same amenities? It's a punishment fee for me because I didn't spend enough?
MGM will suck the life out of you!So happy no mgm in reno!
It's funny, as a late teen (19) and on into my 30's, Vegas and the Strip were my jam! I stayed there countless times through the years just because it was always an awesome visit and never a shortage of things to see, eat and do. I still love Vegas and still come out frequently, but I absolutely refuse to go anywhere on the strip. I'm not paying resort fees, I'm not paying ridiculous parking prices so I can patronize a restaurant or store.. So, I find myself staying on Fremont, avoiding all the nonsense and getting a better feel of old, less corporate Vegas. I swear I should have been born a decade earlier lol. Watching your video as I'm reading The Battle For Las Vegas 😂😂. I don't like the feel of the spots on the strip at all. Like Disneyland, the charm and appeal is gone!
Just booked my trip to Vegas, Ihad 3 options Vegas,New York or Miami Beach and including resort fees at Resorts World actually the stay is cheaper than New York in acomparable property, and in the Miami case the hotel was a much lower category from the one in Vegas for almost the same price.
Steven,
You do much better research than I do, but living in Vegas at the time these fees were implemented, I believe they resulted from a change in taxation the properties faced on the base room rate. A lot of the hotels at the time had upgrade fees; they just weren’t mandatory, and they didn’t face the new taxation rules. So, the idea was to move the necessary rate increases into these upgrade fees, thus eliminating the additional taxation that would eat up any increase. Of course, as time went on and more people jumped on the bandwagon the original reasonable intent disappeared.
im in UK and Vegas is just a massive shake down nowadays. Love to visit in the early 2000s cheap and cheerful. Casino Royale $1-$2 for a bottle of Michelob era Last time i visited a few years back, just everything so dear and getting nickel and dimed at every opportunity. Doesn't help the exchange rate £ against the $ is in the toilet these days
Go to Reno!great comps free parking,Great video poker!Less traffic,No you cant avoid resort fees, but I am a low roller and a few properties will wave your resort fee for moderate play.Just don’t expect a 5 star resorts word casino, most are 4 star.
The reasons for the resort fees. Great information.
Hey Steven. Yeah, I just think resort fees are a straight up scam. So many people are actually surprised by the amount of the fees when they arrive to check in. Sure they should probably find out what the fees will be before they get to the hotel. To me it's a deceptive practice. Be honest and charge the rate you need up front. Hidden fees should be illegal.
Resort fees keep going up and up. The visitors have two choices. Don't go or cut back on something else. I suspect many cut $50 off their gambling budget. The casino still gets the $50 but now they have pissed off their customers who may never return. I suspect there are a lot of folks like me that just quit going. Resort fees, changes in the odds, changes in the rules, high food prices, parking fees etc. By the time you pay for that and considering the changes in odds and rules taking away you ability to win people just can't afford to go there. We haven't been back in 3 years and have no plans to go back.
I got sick and was transported from the hotel to the hospital by ambulance. We asked for them to waive one day of resorts fees because they knew we were in the hospital and not at the hotel, but they refused.
Can I ask which hotel that was ??
Paris@@rogerd1697
I stayed once at the ridge during the winter. They had a covered tennis court. It is a nice time share property.
Good morning Steven and I hope all is wellwith you.
You too and thank you!
I remember when I came to Vegas with my parents we would use valet parking and would only cost one dollar as a tip.
What am I missing here ? Vegas makes you pay resort fees and then parking on top of it ! My parking is never included
People who flocked to third party booking sites thinking they were getting bargain prices are the reason hotels split their room rates. Obviously hotels are not going to pay a third party vendor a commission on the full price of the room. End of the day, the price of the room is the price of the room. Personally, I know of no Las Vegas hotels that include parking fees in the resort fees.
All well and good, IF you got a resort fee waived if you book directly with the hotel OR you got a lower rate directly from the hotel website to encourage you not to use a third party booker. Neither one of those things ever happen of course. And it's not the ONLY reason resort fees became a thing either.
@@ashleighelizabeth5916 Don't disagree with you at all. I don't know the genesis of the fees but it's obvious that the fee structures benefit properties and not consumers. If the industry is forced to eliminate resort fees, which I think is unlikely, room rates will just go up. I personally don't use third party sites because if you have any issues or disputes during your stay the property will refer you to whichever booking agent you used.
I know that people hate resort fees, but if they stop charging them in Vegas, guess what happens - they will simply go up on the regular room rates to recover the lost income! I ask you: what's the difference for paying $50 for a room and another $50 for resort fees, or paying $100 a night with no resort fees? No difference at all. I stop short of calling the resort fees a scam. A scam is when money is being taken from you without you knowing it. By now, EVERYONE should know resort fees exist. I do admit that they are misleading in that you're not really paying them extra for WIFI, the pools, or the gym. Apart from the 'guaranteed' income, the reason it is done this way is to make the room rate appealing when a search of Vegas rooms are done online. But since we all KNOW every casino has resort fees, it shouldn't be the determining factor in staying there or not. In fact, the cheaper hotels/casinos will have lower resort fees than the more expensive ones.
So, in my opinion, are resort fees misleading? Yes. Are they a bit sneaky? Of course. But are they really a scam? No. Resort fees are clearly marked when you go to book a room in Las Vegas. If you are that person who is naive they exist, then you are very gullible and uninformed. It's common knowledge by now and have been in existence for many years. In my view, being charged for parking is a much more egregious fee than resort fees. Why should you be punished for staying at that hotel? You sleep there, pay room rates there, eat there, gambling there, and drink there. And now you gotta pay at least $18 a day (if not higher) to park your car (whether it be your own or a rental) there? While a visitor gets to park for free for an hour or two? Nonsense. And it's getting more and more out of control.
Parking is a killer. If you stay at, say the NY-NY for instance, you pay $18 for the previous night. Then you drive your car to another casino and stay there for a few hours. Guess what, you pay for parking again. Then you drive back to the NY-NY and pay another $18 to stay overnight and the cycle starts over again. Where's the uproar about that? Just because it's posted right out front of the parking lot it's ok? Whereas resort fees are an "oh yeah, we charge those too" type thing. And the parking lots in many cases, are way away from the casino area. When I go to Vegas and have to rent a car, I just get it for a couple of days if I need to travel further away than the strip or downtown. Just a few short years ago there were almost NO parking fees. Now? Look out!
As far as the "where's the uproar" question, it might have to do with the sociological aspect of how costs get ingrained in people's minds. There's something about seeing a big "fee" that feels unacceptable to people. But when it comes to parking, it's like you're taught "well sometimes it's expensive to park at places, and that's that", so they just shrug. Between that and not enough tourists driving around on their own, that new issue of multiple $18s in recent years probably doesn't stand out nearly as much
Heck yeah. If you shop carefully, you can find rooms at about $100 a night if you limit your stay to Sunday through Thursday night at a strip hotel like Horseshoe, Link, Harrah's, Planet Hollywood, Luxor, Excalibur, Park MGM. It will be a lot better than the hotels you find in a small town. Plus you will be in Vegas, not Lexington Park, Maryland or South Bend, Indiana.
my tolerance has been pushed to the limit
usually travel 4+ times per year but now we are visiting different cities of interest
sad situation but ridiculous pricing will eventually take a toll
Btw beware MGM,you now have 72 hours cancel fee,not 48 hours!Greed lives!
Just one question- Why dont the resorts end the controversy and simply include the extra profit in the daily rate?
Two reasons I most often hear are:
1. Pricing transparency - many naive first time visitors aren't knowledgeable to read the fine print and catch the fees before pressing reserve my room. Additionally sort by pricing doesn't account for resort fees so more expensive rooms can leap ahead of other rooms on a search list. Pages allowing you to compare multiple rooms to each other don't account for them either so it requires a pen and paper to actually be able to compare the true price of each room.
2. Tax laws don't often account for resort fees thus allowing hotels to pay a lower tax rate to the state than the amount they would be paying if the resort fee were not a separate amount. This is primarily due to the fact that services are taxed differently than occupancy taxes. For example you won't pay tax on a wifi fee or a mini fridge fee in most cases but you will always pay taxes on an occupancy fee. What's worse is that some properties are now double dipping by charging people occupancy taxes for the entire amount including resort fees but only paying the state the amount they collected for published occupancy rate charged. YES that's illegal. Some how it's not been prosecuted yet though.

Hi Steven..!
Hola!
I just do the simple math to get the total room rate. Vegas rooms midweek are still cheaper than motels in podunk towns. As I understand it third party booking sites are a large reason the resort fees exist as the hotel doesn't share a cut of the RF with them. Also to show up higher in third party searches. If they become illegal casinos will just raise the rates as they'll have to give more to Expedia, etc.
As others have said parking hasn't been free for hotel guests at most Strip properties for a few years now..
If we can do the simple math, why can't the resort? How hard is it to put the actual charge per night as opposed to the "bait and switch" price?
@@JimboInTheHouse1 Did you read what I said about third party booking sites?
Strat and Excalibur have great gyms
being a high limit player in LV We pretty much get exempt but we still get the "other" fees that we get hit with
I’ve never used the Wi-Fi at hotels. I will never unless I use a vpn. Most of the time I just use my phone or hotspot. Most of the time the shows on tv are junk so I just watch Netflix on my laptop
Hi again Steven! Imo, $67 or so for a room isn't that bad at all (I like Luxor) if, as you indicated, it's not off-Strip. And thk you for your other channel! Always interesting vids!
Hello!
Hi Steven.
Hi!
Just fees are crazy
And yes I subscribed a while back.
I would rather the room include the resort fee than be separate. Just so I won’t forget about it when I see the charge when I check out out of the room.
I honestly don't give a shit what the resort fee is. The total cost of your stay is the only number that matters. Book directly with the hotel and you'll see exactly what that is. If it's a good deal and within your budget, book the room. This isn't rocket science folks.
I hate resort fees, but still planning to visit
the resort fees are less a problem than the celebrity chefs. I want to start a boycott the Gouger Chefs in Vegas! lol
Vegas is betting that we will keep coming to visit. The executives know that people will not visit if hotel costs are too high. In our area we have a Hard Rock Casino in Gary, Indiana. The Hard Rock is super nice. They have a sit down Asian style restaurant that is great. It has moderate prices. The chances of the Hard Rock in Gary, Indiana building an attached hotel are slim. Currently, a casino and tall hotel are being built on Halsted Avenue near Homewood, Illinois. This casino will be in East Hazel Crest, Illinois. We have a casino in Hammond, Indiana also. If Las Vegas raises hotel costs too high we will go to Hammond, or Gary or Four Winds in Michigan. There other casinos I am not even mentioning right now.
Parking is definitely NOT included in the Resort Fee.
So how to AVOID resort fees (per your title) is to add them to the room rate? That’s just straight up click bait.
The good thing is you literally can put through coin in coin out for what it cost for a 5 day stay on the strip and get free rooms all year and the next, very easy and cheap to get diamond status at ceasars and pay nothing for rooms and zero resort fees,
Vegas is killing the golden goose that is you and I . Hey here's a thought, stay at the casinos that are away from the strip? Or do they also charge Resorts Fees?
They all have them. Just less further from the strip
Last straw was 10 years ago
Not true MGM Resorts double dips. Resort Fees not include parking fees. I'm sure others that stay at Cesar's properties can confirm the same scenario...😮 My only 😢 saving grace is the credit card 💳 to put me a tier up to get free parking 🅿️
Hello again. First time coming to Vegas in March 2024. I’m like “what the heck is this resort fee”. One way or another they’re gonna get ya. biden say getting rid of the junk fee bill yeah right!! Even if the resort fee goes away, ALL Vegas hotels will just double the room rate. Prices will remain the same.
You are completely right about what will happen if resort fees are mandated to be removed. The hotels/casinos will simply go up significantly on the daily room rates, as you said. So, the resort fees are taken away - big deal. The whining won't go away because the casinos will just get more creative - and probably sneakier - then they are now to get more income.
That’s why I complain more. Resort fees= a lot of complaints. lol
I remember when valet was free.
People just want to complain
If the hotel cost $200/night with no resort fees people are happy
If the hotel is $140 and $60 in resort fees you’re mad? As long as it clearly states this. Why all the hate on resort fees ?
😬
Three, two, one and click
Like watching you.
I appreciate that
If you don’t want to pay the resort fee then get the resorts player card. Gamble a bit using the card. Something like $300 per day. Presto! No resort fee on next visit. And likely a free room offer.
I haven’t paid for a Vegas room in years. It pretty simple.
