Summer Wild Camp at Seal Stones | Kinder Scout

- Despite a very wet forecast, I arranged to meet my friend Jon in the Peak District for a wild camp. After parking in Hayfield we ascended onto the Kinder Scout Plateau, and then followed the path to the start of the 7 minute crossing. Once we’d crossed, we headed for Seal Stones where we pitched our shelters and enjoyed a chilled summer wild camp.
The next morning the air was still and so the midges made their presence felt, forcing us into a hasty get away! So we followed the edge path until we descended back down to Hayfield via Williams Clough.
A great wild camp, and I hope you enjoy.

@@belowaveragewildcamper It was great I slept like a baby 😂. I’m a big fat bloke at the start of a big weight loss journey so for now I need a real thick mat and the Trekology UL140 at 12.5cm thick worked great to keep my hip from bottoming out on the ground. Loving being back in the outdoors hiking and camping after nearly 20 years, my mind still thinks I’m 15 though.

Yeah, I think as long as it’s not blowing a gale I might stick with this configuration. Definitely easier to get in and out and makes it feel more spacious inside.

Thought you’d been abducted by aliens Steve. Hopefully not too long before your next adventure. I hardly get condensation it any of my shelters. I’m a cold sleeper though. Do you think a gap of a few centimetres under the windward side of the shelter would avoid a back eddy of dead air which can occur on the leeward side of the shelter? It can act as a sort of tumble drier effect which circulates the moisture you breath out. Did you remember your en-suite toilet this time?

To be honest I think it was just the conditions that created the condensation. My mate tent was dripping as well. Andy Beavers tents had lots of condensation as well. I think a bigger gap would perhaps have helped but don’t think condensation on that night could have been avoided. All the best mate 👍
