Below Average Wild Camper
United Kingdom

Underperforming in the great outdoors. Hiking and wild camping, amongst other poorly executed outdoor activities. Solo, or with friends and family, but consistently below average I’m sure you’ll agree.
Thank you for watching.

Wild Camp in Weardale and beef stroganoff on the Trangia
Joined by my Dad @overthehillwildcamper we headed to Weardale for a wild camp.
After parking the car in Westgate we followed the Weardale Way until we reached West Ring Open Cutting which is a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest'. After exploring the area we then followed the Middle Hope Burn until we found a suitable pitch.
I was in my MLD Duomid and my Dad was in his Durston Gear X-Mid 2P. Once pitched I rustled up a beef stroganoff on my Trangia 25 stove. A cracking camp to finish off the summer.

Windy Wild Camp on the Border Ridge & a Trangia Masterclass

After parking at Hethpool in the College Valley, I set off on the St Cuthbert's Way to the English Scottish border for a solo wild camp. After exploring the area close to the border I pitched my MLD Trailstar on the English side, I then cooked mince and dumplings with a French twist on my Trangia 27. Despite a favourable forecast of light winds, the winds became increasingly strong with some ex...

Joined by my dad @overthehillwildcamper we decided to head to The Cheviot Hills for a summer wild camp. After parking at Hethpool we hiked on to Blackhaggs Rigg, with a fairly strong wind blowing we decided to drop down to a sheepfold just off the summit to get some shelter. We then pitched our tents just in time to avoid the rain. Unfortunately, the rain continued all night so we both hunkered...

After parking in Hayfield we ascended onto the Kinder Scout Plateau, and then followed the path to the start of the 7 minute crossing. Once we’d crossed, we headed for Seal Stones where we pitched our shelters and enjoyed a chilled summer wild camp. The next morning the air was still and so the m...

Kinder Scout Wild Camp & a Lamb Curry on the Trangia

In this video I was joined by my brother, who I’d arranged to meet in Edale with a fairly fluid plan of hiking on to Kinder Scout plateau for a wild camp. We were blessed with a dry and bright day, but with a biting cold northerly wind. Once we’d reached the plateau via Golden Clough we hiked around the plateau edge in an anti-clockwise direction. After covering around 13 miles we decided to pi...

With a good weather window forecast, I headed to the Yorkshire Dales to explore the Howgills for the first time . After parking near the Cross Keys Temperance Inn on the A683, I head up to the Calf via Cautley Spout. Once at the summit I was blessed with clear blue skies, deep snow, and no wind. Looked like a cracking area for a camp Steve ⛺️👌, ideal pitch for the tents on that shelf, do you think the A frame set up would be stronger in the wind than just the one pole on the duomid ? Looks like it definitely gives you a look of space using it that way mate, spot on, atb Mick 👍
@@otf.outdoors hi Mick, yeah it’s a cracking area and doesn’t seem very popular with wild campers. I think the single pole option is definitely stronger in high winds. I was in high winds at the weekend in the Peak District and I used the single Pole and it was rock solid!!! All the best Mick 👍
A really enjoyable watch Steve. Great to see the two of you out together.👍
Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I had a great camp at Bleaklow stones on Saturday night with a mate. It’d be great if we could have a camp together in the Peaks sometime before Christmas if you’re up for it. 🎄 All the best 👍

Nice looking scran as always, mate! West Rigg looks like it was designated as a geological SSSI so provided you don’t damage the geology, I don’t *think* camping would be an offence under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. Obviously, the actual camping without landowner permission bit is a _different_ thing.

I just switched to the Trangia Mini - small pot and a frypan lid - small batches but much lighter - I lately added the small kettle as it uses less fuel to heat water for not much weight.
