    The wifi is because you were using wifi from the places you were staying which is quite often not as good and not made for snapchat and other social medias, and being used by so many people at the same time.

    Omg I am from New Zealand and I'm so ashamed of some of the comments I am reading being left from New Zealanders :'( They are absolutely horrible, I am so sorry about them, everyone is welcome to our beautiful country ❤ I personally love it when foreigners take interest in our little country! New Zealand has its bad qualities as well as good, it's not perfect just like every other country in the world. This girl is just stating things shes experienced well being here, and thought it would be helpful for anyone who was intrested in coming NZ to know about .I saw nothing wrong with this video I don't understand why some kiwis got so triggered XD relax guys XD

      You have over looked the bigger issue , the huge influx of Indians and Asians in to this country in the last decade buying up property / land , pushing up rents , creating homelessness of our own . We are a small country we cant sustain large influxes of people moving here , we cant build a city the size of Tauranga in a year to house everyone .
      But then I surpose this is all fine and dandy if you have plenty of $ and own your own home .

    Great video :) I lived in Auckland for a while about 2 years ago and had to come home in Montreal because the company that worked for unfortunately closed and at that time, I couldn't stay(but wanted to) but I miss it so so much. I'm planing to move back next year and stay in NZ as long as I can(I want to get the permanent residency at least) because, according to what I'm looking for, this is the best country in the world. Don't get me wrong, I still love Canada and Montreal especially since it's where I'm from, but NZ has so much to offer and when you start to compare the pros and cons, on the long run it's the best place for me. Everything you said were true...especially being a east coaster like you, we're pretty much ''in your face'' all the time (but without being rude..I think you now what I'm saying...friendly but reaaallllyyy opinionated haha) and even if that personality trait is still in me, I thought that I was not a stressed person, but after one week there, I saw that I was haha Because people are so relaxed, friendly, etc that you look at yourself and be like ''I need to calm down a little bit'' lol We're so political in North America all the time that when I saw a NZ Herald headline that was in the vein of ''NZ has a shortage of avocados'' I was like ''Yeaaaahhh...ok. Not much corruption and scandals here'' haha And THAT reflects the kindness of Kiwis I think (among other things of course) :) I hope you'll move there again someday as well! Cheers! P.S. Damn that I miss the Babe burger at Velvet Burger and Sal's Pizza...mmmmmmmmm lol

      These are red flags about any country, I can tell you that have that the media is controlled by a monopoly of two media outlets. Any alternative view to the neoliberal outlook doesn't get a look in. The culture is provincial so it is very insular and inward looking, middle class is the largest social group and fitting into society means being bourgeoise. The veneer of society cohesion started to come undone from after the war and there is incredible division in society the media doesn't talk about because it could damage business optimism.There is a meanness out there which says if you are poor, it is your fault.

    • @orlandoweichistocool
      @orlandoweichistocool 7 років тому +1

      marshall886 that sucks. Kinda the same in Canada to an extent. But life is what you make it and opportunity comes when your relaxed in the moment and your have honest work ethic. That's all. And NZ isn't like South Africa or China where horrendous things happen. It's a beautiful country and actually has one of the highest quality of life of any developed country. And also it's better than the states just sayn.

    • @mashotoshaku
      @mashotoshaku 6 років тому

      marshall886 New Zealand is one of the freest economies in the world. If you can't make it there you can't make it anywhere.

    • @danopticon
      @danopticon 4 роки тому

      Mashoto Shaku - “Free” in the economic sense of deregulated, under-regulated, or unregulated actually translates to much less class mobility between the capitalist economic classes. In the pre-capitalist world deregulation meant more class mobility for the burghers (who became the bourgeoisie), because it gave them the chance to attain the same or even greater wealth (and power!) as the nobility… but that’s all, and in the centuries since, laissez-faire capitalism has led to a permanent and widening divide between the owners of capital and laborers, with about as much chance of a laborer achieving significant wealth using the levers of capitalism as of winning the lottery.

    girl, about internet connection, it's so easy, you just don't know or maybe you just need a little bit use google search the internet provider who offer the cheapest deal. Mine on my phone its just $19 a month a combo pack includes data, text and free call to Australia and NZ. And Internet at home unlimited for just $85 a month, so it's not too expensive at all.

      You can blame the deregulation of alcohol laws making it so readily available. You would have to stop the sale of alcohol in the supermarkets and have it only sold in licensed premise like bars and restaurants for that to change. Alcohol ban laws don't work, I see people walking around town with open bottles all the time.

    I’ve lived in NZ for over 15 years until 2003, successful business man, but I always wanted leave NZ, then left successfully that year. I still go there twice a year for my business.
    Because I am a Japanese, 5’ 4” tall, and not speaking English well, the discrimination to Asian is worse than America.
    For example, white girl stick up her middle finger to me, I was just driving my car and parked at intersection waiting for green light.
    Another bad is Maori bus driver purposely scared me and my employee were crossing intersection. Then laughing.
    My another employee got argument with white guy, he suddenly punched my employee and bleeding. then called a police. Police said that this is not a police matter, not help at all.
    Soon later days, he and his wife left NZ, although he has permanent residence visa.
    I can’t tell all bad experience because I am Asian.
    I got my 3 cars stolen, many of my employees got experience broken their cars.
    It seems like NZ whites are very kind to young Asians, but not guys especially not speaking English well.
    So your case, young and beautiful , speaking American accent, is fresh to them. So you admire NZ good, but not to many of Asian men. So those Asians are sticking with same nationality.
    But again, this is all dependent on people.
    Kazunari

      hi kaz, first of all thank you so much for watching and commenting, i really appreciate your insight, as it is so important to have different perspectives. i am so sorry for just commenting now, i did not see the original comment for some reason! but i actually live in Japan now and it is actually probably much safer/ or at least more polite here in Japan, despite the larger population. i have definitely heard some things about discrimination against asians being really bad in New Zealand, which makes me really sad as well, just because they cannot speak English well, it is no reason to be discriminatory or be mean and violent. i hope you are living somewhere that life is easier for you now!

    Hey, @moeyday or +moeyday, may I ask… were there many adult students from abroad at University of Auckland while you were there? Like, maybe anyone over 30? I’m thinking of trying to go there for a graduate degree, but it looks like because the New Zealand system is so different from the USA’s, I might have to repeat an undergraduate year there. Would a student who’s over 35 years old stick out like a sore thumb? Thanks! 🤗

I’m glad that your experience living overseas has given you perspective, as I also became a lot more open minded after going abroad. I agree that there’s always a handful of negative people that feel the need to express their unhappy opinions from everywhere or haven’t grown up, but it’s always refreshing knowing there are more out there who value different opinions and do want the best for people and respect others. Hopefully the others will follow suit some day!

    There is not nearly as much smoking as went on in, say, the 1990s and the smoking rate is down around 15% of the population now. Auckland is also known as the "City of Volcanos" on the account of it being on top of about 50-60 volcanos with the most obvious being Rangitoto island.

    1:36 you mentioned bare feet. In the UK many places such as restaurants and supermarkets don't allow bare feet. Nearly all workplaces and schools 'sensible' footwear is required. While walking barefoot in public in the UK is actually legal, many people regard it as either curious, odd, weird, offensive, fascinating, ridiculous...take your pick. I'm a UK barefooter so I know. A few people have noticed and very kindly chatted about my being barefoot, the reasons, etc. But such British people are needles in a bigoted haystack. My supervisor took me to one side and asked I submit to footwear or threatened with leaving the premises, like a common criminal. Meanwhile, I'd previously seen drama students and a couple of teachers without shoes, walking the corridors! My one consolation is that New Zealanders are more fair and understanding than my (cough!) fellow countrymen.

    Living in Germany, originally from Turkey. New Zealand is such an interesting country for me, especially regarding the beauty of nature and the weather + people. Don't make fun of me, but nature, the very same reason it is looks so beautiful over there, could be my nightmare if New Zealand is similar to Australia in terms of having those gazillions of weird centipedes and spiders :) I have a phobia against crawlies, and it has nothing to do if they are deadly or not :))

      Omkar Upadhye in public spaces there are sometimes free WiFi networks like “Auckland airport” or just “Auckland city” and I just found them to be slow and spotty compared to WiFi in the states. Cafes are usually great though, and if you have a data plan you’ll be fine! I'm really sad to hear that. I was bullied my young life in NZ for being intelligent and for being gay. NZ is a very masculine culture where they gang up against anything different. It was horrifying. I’m not even particularly feminine, I’m reasonably good looking and I have good social skills. Didn’t save me! Get out while you can. It’s a very backwards culture but foreigners don’t see it because they see the ‘friendly’ veneer.

    Tbh most of the cigarette smell in Auckland probably comes from the large Asian population, who are overwhelmingly smokers if they're under 50 (like most of the students). In Wellington, smokers are not very common and get rather looked down upon as we have an army of hipsters with their fruity-smelling vapes instead.

Prepaid mobile is $20.00 dollars nz per month and a sim card is a couple a bucks which gives you data, txt and landline calls - different providers offer different deals and in most cities in N.Z there is free wifi spots, some unlimited data some have data or time caps. When you go anywhere in the world you should know a little bit about the history or learn it when you are there. There are so many historical places you can visit here, and so much online so there really is no excuse for not knowing while you travel. Maori culture is a huge thing here and while it's sort of a dying culture, people want to preserve it so when you wonder why it's important to know, there you go. Other countries expect you to know history and respect it, so it's completely fair for us to expect it from you. And the salty thing, that's surely a cultural difference too, a lot of the time it's joking, but it's also just a behavioural difference that you pick up on because you aren't used to it I guess.

    doses anyone here talk about the roads are over packed foot paths to small over loaded hospitals then homeless everywhere on the streets asking for money Auckland may be some nice city but to be fair and open with everyone there are to much people and the services cant cope with everyone so sooner all later they will have to stop lettings people come and live in Auckland new Zealand all we will become caged hens all rammed in not the life me all my kids want to live new Zealanders meant to be free and open but its slowly been taken away as the years go on we need to think about how big we want new Zealand I think 6 million people would be about it we all ready have over 5 million
