I purchased the Canon RP cuz I needed to upgrade urgently from my Canon 6D, and Just now 2 months later I start watching how to use it properly lol. Canon makes super user friendly ecosystems, thank you for thia video !
Oh WOW! It's only now that I discovered that you have a UA-cam Channel, Ken! Where have I been hiding under a rock these months, LOL! Thank you, Ken; happy to read your written reviews, double-happy to watch the video reviews as well! I've been eyeing the Canon EOS RP and wanted to know more before I pull the trigger, so thanks again for this tutorial!
I just like to get it over with. No time for long boring and irrelevant videos; I want to hear just the facts so I make my videos like that - the golden rule. Thanks!
I got my eyes on the gold version of THIS ❤️ 5000 available in Japan only commemorating the 2020 Olympics 💯 reminds me of my original Canon rebel my first ever DSLR camera I bought for$160 around 2007 🔥
Thanks for posting this and the RP review. It does make me as an RP owner feel better now with what I have, now that the R6 and R5 have come out, haha. I do really like this little camera!
Thank you Ken for keeping it real, so many (all of them) other sources focus on pixels and noise levels. Just got my RP and I could not be happier thanks to you. I'm having an absolute blast with street photography. Do we know how is weather sealing on this one?
As always, see my written reviewer details at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/rp.htm, Canon makes mention of weather sealing - but so what' I've been shooting out in the woods for far longer than marketing invented "sealing." Thanks!
At about 4:30 you mentioned programming the menu button to the red button. I missed where you told how or what else you could put on the red button. I looked on your written manual but could not figure out what to search for. Help.
See www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/eos-rp-users-guide.htm#customcontrols I never listed all the many many options, just see them when you get there in the menus. Set them as you like; even I change them depending on my mood - and what they do should save and recall with C123 if you want to change them fast. Thanks!
Simple: cover the lens with a hat or your hand to start and stop exposures, using the shutter button only while the lens is blocked and no problem. Ago old trick. Thanks!
My only question, and have run into this problem with other Canon models(lesser ones), is there is no lock for the mode dial. It is recessed which is helpful, but I have run into situations where the mode dial get bumped and not noticed for quite a few shots, and they get toasted.
@@KenRockwellTV My starter cameras years ago were T5, T6i, and I rented a t7i for a Yosemite trip, and none had the lock button on the mode dial. True, it doesn't happen often. I'm a moving, hiking, and hunter shooter, and stuff gets bumped. Now I generally have two cameras going, one with a fixed lens and one with a 100-400Lii, so I'm juggling. I have better Canon cameras now that have the klutz-proof lock button, and no worries being a klutz. I want to say your video, and one other I saw where they compared 4 cameras and the RP came in 2nd behind the R5, and beat out the R6 and R?! I really liked your rapid fire but also how clearly understandable you present the material. The other video just reinforced what you presented. I've been looking to get rid of my 77d for the RP. My other unit is a 6dii, and maybe make that my second camera, after dumping the 77d. Prices for the RP are pretty low. Any thoughts? Thanks
@@wayneg1794 Today I'd pass on any DSLRs. I'd look at R6 II for full frame, or honestly, APS-C is just as good or better than full frame, just smaller and lighter and less expensive. Look at the R50 or R10. The RP is obsolete, replaced by the R8. Full reviews of everything are at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/index.htm When comparing, what matters is what you want to do with it, so what some random UA-cam has to say probably doesn't apply to you. Thanks!
I have the RP with the EF 24-105 F4L v1 and the EF 50 stm. I find that both lenses and the RP are the complete package for my type of shooting. But can you recommend a better 50mm? Except the RF 50 which is way out of my budget (for now). Or should I just go for the RF 35? Great tips, btw. Cheers!
So I just came from your website and read the Assembling a System article and realized I don't really need anything else other the my EF 24-105. But since I like shooting at night, I might still get the RF35 to replace my EF50. And I may replace my EF 24-105 for the RF L version in the future for a lighter and more compact system. That was a good read. Thanks!
It’s smaller lighter and less expensive. The real question is would you rather have the brand new R8, which is the new version of the RP?I have a look at the full comparison of all three at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r-vs-r8-vs-rp.htm. As always, check my far more detailed written reviews at KenRockwell.com when you really want to know everything. Does this help? Thanks !
excellent tutorial, but I have a question out of this context: is the EOS-RP EVF image like seeing through a full frame DSLR or APS size sensor DSLR? I already have presbyopia and would use EVF much more than the external LCD.
Who uses stores? I've bought online or over the phone from New York City for over 40 years. Use these stores that I do, and if you don't like it they all take it back for a full cash refund: www.kenrockwell.com/links.htm#stores Thanks!
I suppose. Please don’t do that; I don’t want to have to rotate my TV to see it! Honestly I only use video cameras or my iPhone for video, I don’t shoot video on any of these cameras. Thanks!
can't watch your vids, the sound is killing me. that constant panning is driving me nuts. you should look into fixing that since you know so much about photo.
I used to record in real 3D stereo, but what that did was very accurately reproduce me moving my head around. Today’s videos are all now mono with my voice always dead-center. Thanks!
@@KenRockwellTV thanks for the info, I really like your videos and trust your reviews, i just started watching your videos after consulting your website many many times. i'm a musician and it's just diving my ears nuts lol. thank you for your work it really helps learning and acquiring gear with a real trustable opinion and honest reviews.
Easy; 1. These are shot at such high resolution and so close that you can see more dust than you would in person, and 2. the camera is black and thE video also shows it much lighter than it appears in reality in this video, again for clarity. This also hugely exaggerates the dust. In other words, your camera would look even worse seen this way; I actually do clean each camera before I shoot each video!
Just watched this and the R3. Finally have answers to issues I’ve been fighting with for years! Thank you
Thanks!!!

Coincidentally, I had it set to 1.25, and right in the middle, I had to switch it back to normal…
I have been on your website for years. I had no idea you had a channel! More videos, please!

Great tips, Ken. I agree that Fv is a very useful feature, which I often leave my RP in this mode.

Great video Ken. What's your opinion about the 6D mark ii? I guess it has pretty much the same sensor as the RP.

Fast forward to 23. Do you still use the RP much?
RP is still the best camera going until you spend more than twice as much. If you’re not using it for action it’s still fantastic - and ultralight.
If in B, and pressing the shutter button to stop the exposure won't you incur some shake?
