I think the most important part when a person grew up in a dysfunctional family is that a person is able to recognise it was disfunctional and recognise the effects it had on them. Trauma in childhood often leads to emotional immaturity but because of that the person is not able to work on their personal problems because emotional immaturity makes that you look for the cause of your problems outside of you. You had the intelligence and insight to recognise what happened to you and although that will not take away the pain, becoming emotional mature and being able to take care of your own needs makes a big difference in life.

I grew up in a really dysfunctional family that I'm still trying to deal with now (with lots of self-help books and no therapy for the time being £££). It's so hard to explain to people that you missed so much growing up, there was not only the things that you experienced, but the things you DIDN'T get to experience. I feel like I'm still trying to get to the start line and some people seem so frustrated with me that I'm not half way through the race already. I'm on a big time healing journey myself (it's very woo-woo and somewhat similar to your situation so I won't get into it) so here's to the Beautiful You!
I know exactly what you say... grieving not only things you did get but didn't want but also things you never got/experienced which should have been there. I think there is some of it still in me even after all the work and therapy etc, I idealise other people's lives sometimes and I have this divide for people from perfect homes and dysfunctional homes as if there was no grey area which of course there is. I'm totally cheering on you and wish you quick and lasting recovery. So glad you took the step to self care and decided to face it all :) Well done!

I grew up in a dysfunctional household too and agree 100% that therapy helps. If someone is thinking they can’t afford therapy please check to see if there’s a therapist that has a sliding scale fee. I found a good, affordable therapist by calling a suicide prevention hotline; they recommended one to me. Thank you for making videos like this. Seeing you happy gives me hope for myself. Congratulations on your new apartment and jobs!
That is amazing, I'm so happy you found the way to find the therapist, yes it can be pricy but as you said there are ways to get it for any budget so it doesn't have to be a barrier (e.g. my therapy was for free via charity). I wish you plenty of health and good life :) Hugs!

I know it's not ideal but it was exceptional circumstances because of the kitchen renovation and we could only do ready meals. You have to eat something!

I know it's not ideal but it was exceptional circumstances because of the kitchen renovation and we could only do ready meals. You have to eat something!
