How I Got My Dream Job During Lockdown - Getting Into The UX

- I recently started my dream job in the UX field - despite Covid, strict lockdown, no UX degree, no big portfolio and having not a lot of experience.
In this video I'm telling you how it happened and give my best tips and advice on where to get started if you're thinking about the career as a User Experience Designer.
I never explain in the video what a UX design actually is so here is a quick recap:

Yes, I have a question. I'm a Computer Scientist but it seems I should never have picked that career, I learned a few years ago I have a learning disorder. My brain can't pick up with so many changes, UX doesn't seem any different. Do you know of any field in CS that doesn't change so much? 😅 Maybe C++ programming but to be sincere I'm changing careers to languages. Translation, interpreting... it's difficult but quite surprisingly I'm very good at it.

I'm sorry to hear about your learning disorder :( You are right, Computer Science as well as UX and any other technology related field these days is changing so fast... It has been a bit of change from my previous role which was more "steady" (data analytics etc), however I longed for something more lively and I found that the principles of design don't change, it's just the way it is applied that develops. I find it actually gives more freedom and opportunities which I enjoy but I can understand that it's not for everyone's taste. I found a simple habit of once or couple of times a week to read or watch something like UX news and also subscribing to good newsletters help to stay on top. In your case I think you made a good choice for moving to Translation or interpreting as it does offer more stability, also things like law or business or data analysis where things don't change that much could be a good place. I'm happy to hear you're doing well in your current choice and I wish you all the best :)

Omdz I'm looking to get a UX job in the UK. Struggling so much to get one since I have no experience. I'm currently a Petroleum Engineer and I hate it.
I'd say try volunteering at anything you can and sign up for Interaction Design Foundation as they have some project there you can do at home! That could give you some experience to start :)
