This is the warhammer game I grew up with. Blocks of infantry, slugging it out. I don’t mind age of Sigmar’s system with the round bases and stuff, but I don’t understand why they absolutely needed to change all the lore and characters that they had built up over 8 editions...

Dear MiniWarGaming, I am currently a 17 year old living in Dallas, Texas, who was first exposed to the Warhammer universe after playing Total War's game. I found the lore interesting and I thought all the different factions were quite cool. It's embarrassing to say that I had never known that this was a traditional strategy game played with actual figures, but now that I know, I am totally interested! I suppose my question is how to get started? Where are the places that sell these figurines and what kind of paint do you use? A HUGE fan of the show!
Glad you like Warhammer Fantasy. Getting started in Warhammer 8th Edition Fantasy can be tricky, Games Workshop does not support this version of the game any longer. However, It is relatively easy to find the Rulebook on Ebay. Next, you would need to decide on which army you want to collect, paint, and play. Once you do so, you will need to get an Army Book for your respective army. Again, Ebay is your best bet. There are some small things you'll need to gather to play: D6 (Six Sided) Dice, Artillery and Scatter Dice (Ebay), a tape measure, and casting templates (You can copy the picture of the templates from the Rulebook and cut them out of card stock). Lastly, the models. 8th Edition Warhammer Fantasy uses square bases and Games Workshop is switched to all round bases now. However, you can still find older boxes of models (They are colored red) with the square bases in plenty of game stores. I recommend Texas Toy Soldier, near Dallas, is the best model shop in the county! They sell Games Workshop products at a discount of usually about 10%, no other store in the area does this. Hope this helps.
I feel so bad for people who are only just now learning about Warhammer after Age of Sigmar was released, and have to realize that 8th Edition is far more superior and, on top of that, not many (at least not many original players) play Age of Sigmar anyways. So people that want to play have to jump through all these stupid hoops now to gather what they need. It sucks. I've been reading up on Warhammer for ages and watching videos, but I myself never played. I was thinking about it right around the time the End Times stuff came out because I thought they would be completely redoing the rules. Instead they literally ended the fucking world (yeah, I get it, what did you expect "End Times" to mean. But many of us didn't think they were literally going to end the entire 30 something years of lore just to create a inferior game). Age of Sigmar came out, and though I was sad about not getting into it, and now not being able to (I refuse to do AoS, the rules have been streamlined for fools), I also kind of wiped sweat off my forehead that I didn't start buying up models and painting them under the 8th Edition only just GW to say "lulz that shit's discontinued and all that money you spent is a waste. Check out our new AoS models though!" I guess I lucked out either way because I don't know anybody here in Albuquerque, New Mexico that even plays Warhammer Fantasy. I think there might be a Warhammer 40k group here, but even that is small and I dislike 40k (how it's so much more popular than WHF I will never, ever know. Warhammer Fantasy strategy means something. Warhammer 40k, it's just who has the more expensive models and who get's luckier with the dice rolls). Would love to see more variety of army lists from the Mini Wargaming Folks: Different units & tactics (so plague furnace, etc.) Love to see progress made on the armies too. Such as finished movement trays, new specific army terrain, etc. I appreciate the Battle Reports, so thank you, but they seem to be getting stale from the lack of variety mentioned.
Grudge thrower doesnt have armor piercing , just an enormous strenth of 9 for the direct hit . As for the runes, he probably mixed up names , he didnt take a rune of forging but a rune of accuracy . He rerolled many times his scatter die (rune of accuracy) but never rerolled any misfire (rune of forging) . Both runes cost the same (25pt) so it's ok if he just mixed up the names . Game, dwarves.
@@XPEKEru he did reroll a misfire in turn 2 around the 15:40 minute mark and he says he can reroll a misfire. So it seems like a mistake to me but I'm actually brand new to to actual fantasy having come over from AoS so it's entirely possible I'm wrong.
When a character leaves a unit, he can do it from ANY point of it, or he have to move from the point it was in the unit? because then, i can just "slingshot-them" whit a large tarpit...
I'm assuming you've probably figured this out or given up but just in case I'm not too late slaves are apart of the clanrat box. You can build them out of it by picking the models that have chains on their legs and no armor or you can just pick what you like and give them knives and other smaller weapons and no shields.

Again, organ guns with all the extra runes shooting at slaves is just... wasting ammo. There really was no need for 2 organ guns in the dwarf list as the only worthy thing for them to shoot at were the stormvermin. A cannon would have helped to deal with both the hellpit and with enemy cannons. Or gyrocopters. Also, when warriors charged the skavenslaves, they did not challenge for some reason. That could have killed the warplock engineer on he first round and broken the slaves, rather than getting tarpitted.
The challenge would not have changed anything cause the skaven can refuse challenges and still give theyre leadership bonus to the unit. But I agree with shooting slaves beeing a waste of ammo :p
The pursuit move against the stormvermin would have been directly away from the unit with most ranks, the warriors, and would not have made the warriors pursuit into the slaves.
Depends on your luck but yeah . With organ gun you always get some wounds but with the canons , it's strike or nothing . I also prefer cannons but i understand why people would rather take organs for constant dps .
rank bonus to leadership test is also very broken on a move 6, with a point value of 2 on skaven slaves that you can fire into at will as long as there are no characters in the regiment.. just OP on all accounts
Hmmm.... +2 to dispel, up to 3 auto-deny-scrolls, stealing dice, generating dispel dice... hmmm... Dont mind the up to 23 warmachines in 3k points games and runes of imma-reroll-that-one-too-cuz-i-have-beard for almost every warmachine. Dwarfs dont need a stronger magic defense.
I knew that people mostly hated AoS just because but so many people are that sad for abandoning this magic phase system ? Holy shit, the more I watch the more totally unbalanced it seems
I think most people that dislike the AoS gameplay (not the lore thats a totally different discussion) dislike the lack of troop blocks and many other things. But I do agree I always thought the magic system was a bit too over the top sometimes.

Hatred is automatic for both armies when it comes to Skaven & Dwarves. They are the two armies I play, so it's one if the rules I know the best.
Dude skaven have no hatred in their 7th ed armybook. They have it only with special banner made of flayed dwarfs
final combat - grey seers unit would still have steadfast as disruption does not remove it and they had 5 full ranks compared to the dwarfs 2

Not really, it takes only 2 or more ranks attacking from the flank or rear to disrupt. Check out page 52 in 8th ed. Rulebook :)

Pim Drijver Miscast was resolved at 23:00. We forgot to roll it after the spell but didn't forget it before the turn ended
