Like the biggest names like mohanlal( i know mohanlal has not been experimenting for the past 2 to 3 years but i heard he signed a movie with lijo Jose and director of nna thaan case kodu) mammotty to Fahad and dulquer. Overall a decent watch!
DQ in a new avatar is praise-worthy. His flare in many languages is commendable. Sunny Deol has also done a good job. Unique premise must be appreciated but still ends up being predictable as it's suspense is already known to the audience which is why the movie doesn't manage to keep you hooked till the very end. I didn't feel shocked after seeing the gruesome murders maybe because it lacks in shock value.

A rating of 8.5 IMDb is a bit too generous.
    + Sunny Deol & Shreya D
    + Tribute to Guru Dutt
    + Brutal murder scenes
A lot of questions felt were unanswered:
    - What triggered him to start killing now after 10yrs?
    - Why fall in love at the same time? Should have been more focused on his mission.
    - After a unhappy past did he want love or just fulfill his needs? The thought of killing came too easy to him without clarifying the reason for her actions.
    - No much detail about his poor industry experience and mistreatment after his 1st venture.
    - Why can't Bollywood stay away from love stories?
    - Just after 3 killings why would he let his identity get revealed at the end?
    - He could have being smarter and patient and waited for the right moment to finish last victim.
    - They could have thought of a much better way for him to escape with his last victim. Throwing out of a window was too dull.
The audience around called it too slow and some said it was bakwas.
Obviously it won't match everybody's taste. The title of the movie was heard in dialogues maybe 3-4 times. It needed 'Chup' to be more prominent in villain scenes. The only visions I left the theatre with were the brutal killings.
It's a one time watch but a good change for Bollywood movies. 1st DQ movie - Nice.

No unnecessary songs, crisp acting. Also comic reliefs at perfect places (for me nila's amma stole the show with her cuteness).
    Movie's message: pain can
affect you at deeper levels making you loose control over mind (mostly depression)
Things could have been better :1. made it too obvio to guess who the killer was in 1st half ...

    Some references with that climax
    1) that guru dutt posture.
    2) kagaz ke phool had that nuance subject of fall of an artist , there
Guru Dutt keeps running away towards the exit-gate of Ajanta Pictures Studio while a storm brews and leaves blow all over in an emotionally surging finale. It is a terrible conclusion, as the viewer sits up from his seat, choked with unpalatable emotions.
It was the ending which made this an absolute classic: it is high on poignancy and yet a rousing cinematic triumph. It stirs your soul and forever the man, the artist, the legend called Guru Dutt acquires an unequivocal place in your heart.
The film is a theatrically profound depiction of a man's fall from grace, his dwindling persona and is a stirring account of how a once phenomenally successful man who had the world at his feet is reduced to a pitiful subhuman condition, exactly like here where DQ as much as his childhood trauma destroyed him mentally, the subject of his pain which he showcased to the world destroyed his ego his confidence.
Idk if chup was a homage to guru dutt as an artist or as an audience.
One thing I can say that in last 10 years of bollywood it's the most beautifully portrayed climax with lots of Easter eggs and tributes .
DQ is wholesome and terrific as fuck
Shreya was so subtle and beautifully written and acted .
Sunny paji is a true star 💙
( Don't worry I'm not reviewing this movie or giving this a star )
But one thing I can say that
    Cinema needs R BALKI ❤️

In our artist space and its socio-culture, the critics are equal to nobody unless they have connections and are in some specific elite social group in background , audience make or break a movie. And critics are not of any problem but the actual problem of indian artists and creative culture are mainly 2 which are the lack of complete artistic freedom in the individual talent's mind (not talking about the system of censorship here) through the social and culture of the country and finding there complete own individual creative voice from ground up, self learning the craft and being in there own creative journey, and not trying to fit in some molds and getting acceptance from specific group of people or the mases. And with little to no outside influence from other artist's work. No society, culture and individual should put cap on creativity because there are already natural boundaries which comes from being a human, having limited intelligence and creative power and coming from there unique background and having there own life experiences, and having there own ideas .The 2nd thing which i have noticed is our artist and craftsmen generally are very lazy and dont try to do hardwork to do more than what they are comfortable with and dont try to challenge themselves and achieve the highest level of artistic expression and highest skills and finesse in there craft

One more observation, there was an indirect psychological reference as well, if you have an idea or two about shadow alley, introduced by Carl Jung, you know that we have two parts in our mind one is conscious and other one is subconscious, and when there are some repressed memories which are unresolved, it absorbes your subconscious mind, and then you get controlled by your subconscious mind with the say of conscious mind being receded or reduced, that's why we saw in this film that the other side of his or psychopathic side of his was always a bit heavy and dominating to him.

Best choice on the National cinema day.
Considering the serial killer part of the movie, in comparison to movies like RAATCHASAN or ANJAM PATHIRA, we are not travelling along with the investigation team in search of the killer. We are given constant references for who is the killer and why is he doing it. Even when we knew about the killer the police is still unknown and they are joining the left over dots to complete the story in a rushed ending that we have almost imagined.
The thing I liked most in the movie is the beautiful intervening of the love for cinema of different people's POV; as filmmaker, as critic and as audience. I could relate to the facts Nila shares to Danny like " reel life is filmy and dreamy where as ream life is boring and flat. The music in real life is more like honking of vehicles in traffic where in reel life you can have slo-mo and bgms for every situation and sometime it goes to the extent that even at a funeral we have to have melancholic music to be imagined in our mind to feel the sadness."

The criticism that you mentioned was exactly what I felt with the storyline being linear. Other than that, good job on everything else.

I just saw the film, and it's a good film, not a great film but it gives you something to think about and the irony of the Indian audience is when they saw the poster of "gurudutt", many of the people shouted in the cinema hall is "who the hell is this guy"

Film criticism is an art that’s usually funneled through the medium of journalism, but criticism is still fundamentally an art form. Film criticism also needs to be diverse. Critics try to read a film through the lens of their own unique experience, and that gives life to the work of art. Even when we all sit in the same movie theater, we all watch a different work of art. Adding those perspectives to the chorus can only enrich and expand the movie.
