Why you lost that battle: In EU4, there is "Combat Width" which is the amount of troops which can be fighting at once. If you exceed this, the rest wait around as reinforcements and fill gaps in the line. So what you really had was something like 40k Floridamen fighting 40k Frenchmen and getting slaughtered, over and over again, in waves of 40k. You almost won through sheer human waves tactics wearing the French down to 20k, but the huge casualty numbers led to your army running away. Combat width increases with technology. For the tactic you used to work, you need to stack morale bonuses and manpower bonuses so your troops don't give up after the massive slaughter, and so you recover troops quickly. (It's viable, but not with a standard army against a discipline focused army. You need to lean into the strategy.). There's also a discipline focused army option like you saw with Spain and France (And infamously, The Prussians) where you focus instead on increasing the damage and quality of the troops. What you did was throw 40k random dudes into the meatgrinder with 40k specialized combat veterans, over and over and over again. You didn't even brainwash them into loving dying for their country first. Another trick for human wave tactics is to leave half the army chilling outside the battle, then move them into the province when the first army is looking a bit beat up, and cycle between them. As a general rule, if you have the manpower for it, human wave tactics work really well in the game, but a lot of players prefer quality focused armies to feel powerful. EDIT: Oh, also, you attacked them in a defensive position across a river into a forest. Which didn't help. Also, you didn't have a general. I think it was close enough that if you fixed any of those problems, you may have won. On the bright side AA, in this horrifying alternative history you've created, the French will report that 200k Floridians, completely untrained and leaderless, chased them around the country and attacked them over a river into a forest, dying in wave after wave, before pulling back. That kind of reputation would end up serving Florida well when they finally got the idea of having generals.
@@1ManRandom Yes. You should try and have at least some cavalry until you know the game better. Pure Inf-Art armies are fine if you know what bonuses to stack for some countries. Florida is not one of those countries. Though they do have +10% morale at the end of their tree, so his strategy wasn't the worst if he knew how to execute it.
@@ambiguousamphibian I would add that you can make armies into stacks. Make sure to have a general on an army as they can have a large impact on the battle. Cavalry is basically not really needed in large numbers by the second half of the game unless your country has specific bonuses for it (Poland for example). Infantry catches up and artillery will do large amounts of dmg + is needed for taking larger forts effectively.

From what I've heard, "Florida Man" exists because the florida legal system records system is much easier to search than other states, and so reporters go there on slow news days
As a french man, I can't imagine the horror of going to battle against thousands, tens, hundreds of thousands of Florida men. "They say the french won the battle. But they came back... changed..."
Fun fact; The reason “Florida Man” exists is because a particular freedom of speech law present in Florida. To summarize, it’s more or less legal in Florida for news reporters to just go to police stations and say “give me the list of every arrest you’ve made in the last week and exactly what reason you were called out for.” In other states you usually have to wait until the cases actually develop to an extent before the information is publicly accessible. As someone who has quite a few hours in EU4, this was painful to watch but also incredibly entertaining. Idk what compelled you for this to the best first ever run of EU4 from you but I’m here for it.
The reason why your 200k units lost against the 30k units is likely due to the difference in technology between you. As time progresses in the game new technologies are unlocked which you need to buy with mana points (admin points, diplomacy points, military points). In your case, you were likely behind in military technology which affects things such as troop morale, military tradition, combat width, unit type, etc. all things that affect army combat in the game. You can also increase your unit's military prowess through the use of ideas which are also paid for with mana points. Mana points are used almost everywhere in the game and the generation of them is hugely important.
Im glad you took the eu4 pill! Some tips: The combat width is why you lost that battle at the end. One regiment you recruit fills up one slot on the combat width, with artillery taking all slots in the back meaning you want a full frontline of infantry in front and artillery in the back. So for example, if the combat width is 40 then you want 40 line infantry and 40 artillery in any battle at one time. Combat Width increases with technology and is in the 10-20 range in the game's start. So the reason you lost is because the French obliterated the Floridian first responders so hard the other hundred thousand pissed their pants and fled the battlefield. Also recruit generals, ALWAYS, Changing the start date is not a good idea, its an outdated feature that got left behind by the devs. Spain was probably hemorrhaging money the entire game, alongside every other great power. I noticed you did a war against French without a Casus Belli. That is based as hell but also it destroys your countries stability and everybody will hate you if you do that.

So, you need to build more training grounds before expanding your army, or you will get some serious debuffs in maintenance costs. After spending almost 1,5k hours in EUIV, this was a bit painful to watch for me. The provinces development is split on tax, production and manpower. The churches you built give bonus tax income depending on province tax development (the tax is the worst development type btw.) and they didn't give you almost anything. The province income can also be reduced by its autonomy (from 0 to 100%) and by devastation (mostly if enemy occupies your province) so its important to keep these low (by reduce autonomy option and building forts).
Glad to see you finally getting into EU! It has been one of my favorite games for over 10 years. If you ever return to this and want to do a multiplayer game, hit up your favorite mask wearing internet purple guy!
Btw for the next time you play a colonial nation, maxing out as much native assimulation is how you get a MASSIVE economy you can get up to such a high assimulation you basically get a free foundaries worth of production once you finish it, it takes longer but is worth it so much more, especially since your capital is in the new world. If your cap is in the old world or Asia go for the speed of colonies if you exist in the new area you are colonising assimilation is the way to go. Oml I also realised you need to have generals in your armies or they get STOMPED have around 25k stacks 15 infantry 3 cav and 7 cannon's as you tech up supplies add 5 troops, each stack needs a general, its a dice based combat system each stat gives +1 to each 'damage phase' so basically you were fighting with a massive disadvantage, tactics is also the most vital stat for armies (if you have simular sized armies but more tatics you will smash them no matter how good there generals are) also remember to click the "merge armies button" you take more attition on troops when they are all individuals and move at different speed's meaning your troops are basically marching single line into battle with no fomation in that big fight with also 0 leadership haha, so very in Floridian fashion ;)
Nice, as a long-time EU IV player who loves your content that was fun to watch. It looks like you have the El Dorado DLC which adds the custom nation builder, which might be interesting to check out if you want to do more stuff like this - you could make a custom "Florida" country starting in 1444 with extra colonists for faster expansion, that sort of thing.
It's generally a good idea to recruit generals, not only because they give you significant stat bonuses in combat, but also because you can give them funny names. (I think you need the right DLC for that tho.) Selected units can be grouped together into larger armies by pressing G (which you can also give funny names.) Armies don't bring food along with them, they just take it from the province they are currently in. If you have too many men in one province, they slowly starve.
EU4 is a rough game to learn without a guiding hand of another more experienced player, but regardless, after the brutal learning curve the game throws at you, you have a very fun military strategy game that has plenty of different ways to play, even ignoring the plentiful modding scene the game has (like Anbennar if you ever wondered what D&D war would be like) and alternate history mods (which I don't play personally, I just like Anbennar for the fantasy and magic)
Wow, it's great to see you play a game I've sunk, like (checks notes) no way, 900 hours? That's like a month of my life! Oh well, just choose a Florida man to rule all Florida men in the armies.
The game could be pretty fun For example I recently started the game as Teutonic Order, became Holy Crusade, formed Poland, then Commonwealth and finally ended up as Mongol Empire conquering non-catholic heathens with my crusader winged hussars
200K army lost to 30k because you were over stacked. There is a modifier know as combat width. It was likely around 30 units. There are 2 rows of 30 unit for each army. So you want a front for of infantry and aback row of artillery Only your 30 front row guys were fighting their guys. the rest of the 170k we taking damage but not dealing any. If you have Artillery, it shoot over and dose a lot of damage . But it is way more expensive. The 'normal' trick is to have couple armies of "front" rows and single back row artillery army. Send in a front row with the artillery, then as the 1st front row start to take damage, send in another front row army. The 2nd army with replace the weekend front row, your artillery keeps shooting, you cycle your front row armies in and out. That is how a 100k can beat 400k+ nation
Ambiguous amphibian was one of my favorites ever. Lately his stuff is good, but he is running the algorithm rather than making the content i fell in love with. No ire, I totally get it. You gotta make a living. But I miss Gerald Williams. I miss Worm Man. I miss Torsolo.
You can technically play the game the way you did, picking any year and any country, but that’s generally unadvised because only the 1444 start date is the one developed by the devs, so choosing any other date is a surefire way of getting the most basic experience possible without most of the polish and great additions of the last decade. Personally I recommend leaving the other start dates completely untouched unless you get a mod set in other dates (aka a mod that develops another date other than 1444), and choose one of the better developed countries like any of the major powers and those that were subjects of DLCs.

“We’re tiered of war, yet there must be more.”
“We don’t have Jacksonville-“
Let me stop ya right there, jit.
Welp, this gonna be interesting. The other starting dates have barely been updated since the game came out.
Dear lord, 6:24. Him just marching stacks of individual units really bothered me. COMBINE THEM! :(
correction: he is marching stacks of FLORIDA MEN
Glad to see you finally getting into EU! It has been one of my favorite games for over 10 years. If you ever return to this and want to do a multiplayer game, hit up your favorite mask wearing internet purple guy!
Was great fun seeing you play EU4, even with very limited knowledge of the game. Hope to see more at some point.
Definitely need to clock a few 100 more hours lol 😆 didnt expect this video from you. Love the videos and variety you do.
I cannot wait for Mr Amphibian to play one of my favourite games of all time and lose his mind.
Florida men attempting to conquer Michigan in December!? They're about to meet their one weakness, SNOW! ❄️
(I think you need the right DLC for that tho.)
Selected units can be grouped together into larger armies by pressing G (which you can also give funny names.)
Armies don't bring food along with them, they just take it from the province they are currently in. If you have too many men in one province, they slowly starve.
“We’re tired of war but yet there must be more” Damb that’s deep
Crazy how it snows in northern Florida while a hurricane rages in southern Florida
There is a butt ton of rich people in Florida so the amount of starting money is pretty accurate
Glorious. Never thought id see you play this and i enjoyed it!
I definitely wanna see you tackle this again in a year when you know EU4 much better!
this is what an ambiguous amphibian video from 2014 would look like
I hope when he gets better he comes back to make MegaFlorida 2: Back with a vengeance
Wow, it's great to see you play a game I've sunk, like (checks notes) no way, 900 hours? That's like a month of my life!
Oh well, just choose a Florida man to rule all Florida men in the armies.
lol at having to tell Floridians to build churches. They don’t need to be told.
Certified ambiguousamphibian classic
You're probably the first person to use the other start dates genuinely in years
Lol please do more Eu4, games got an intense learning curve but god damn is it fun. not many games you can just play as FLORIDA too
man his ascent came out hard in this one
Today, the United States of Florida
Tomorrow... Floridearth.
EU4: a game where you're still a beginner 1000 hours in.
I love the frogman transition
The game could be pretty fun
For example I recently started the game as Teutonic Order, became Holy Crusade, formed Poland, then Commonwealth and finally ended up as Mongol Empire conquering non-catholic heathens with my crusader winged hussars
A Florida without I-4??? What an amazing time that must've been!!
More fun stuff like this please and thank you.
What I know about this game, is that with 10 hours of time invested you under approximately .05% of the mechanics. Incredibly deep and varied game.
As a Louisiana man, I'll approve this if Florida can fix the roads.
YES. Now lets watch what you do in this game.
I'm about 10 mins into the video and as a Florida Native this is just historical recreation. The Great Seminole War begins.
Another killer vid!
200K army lost to 30k because you were over stacked.
There is a modifier know as combat width. It was likely around 30 units.
There are 2 rows of 30 unit for each army.
So you want a front for of infantry and aback row of artillery
Only your 30 front row guys were fighting their guys. the rest of the 170k we taking damage but not dealing any.
“Franklin, hit the Banger button”
This video sounds like a weatherman giving the forecast
Ambiguous amphibian was one of my favorites ever. Lately his stuff is good, but he is running the algorithm rather than making the content i fell in love with. No ire, I totally get it. You gotta make a living. But I miss Gerald Williams. I miss Worm Man. I miss Torsolo.
10 hours of EU4, and he's already played with the timeline feature more than many multi-thousand hour players
as a current north carolina and former jamestown colony resident, we welcome florida based amphibian conquest
AA, if you like EUIV, you might like CK3, the learning curve is pretty easy and there's some interesting stories to tell with the game.
so happy to see you play eu4!!!!
Finally! Someone's asking the important questions!
Never had a title draw me to a video so fast
You can technically play the game the way you did, picking any year and any country, but that’s generally unadvised because only the 1444 start date is the one developed by the devs, so choosing any other date is a surefire way of getting the most basic experience possible without most of the polish and great additions of the last decade. Personally I recommend leaving the other start dates completely untouched unless you get a mod set in other dates (aka a mod that develops another date other than 1444), and choose one of the better developed countries like any of the major powers and those that were subjects of DLCs.
In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cajunman waits dreaming
Cracked up at "Russian Australia" as you scrolled past at the end.
