Apparently original show was so bland and boring, no one watched it in Japan, so when ADV wanted to get their hand on some anime, managers gave them this with guideline "Just leave main story and character names intact, and do whatever the hell you want". So crew just went completely insane because no-one cared - initial studio just hoped to get some money from this bomb and ADV didn't care either - they wanted to have anime on broadcast. Dubs like this happen only once in millenia because stars have aligned in a very wrong, but correct way and instead of faithful but boring adaptation we've been blessed with the most hillarious shit I've heard in a while.
I love how the show was a massive flop in Japan so they gave it to some dude (I forget his name) to dub and just went "This is all yours do whatever the fuck you want" and so he made South Park the anime

Honestly as much as I find some of the very over-the-top explicit humor forced a lot of this anime feels _incredibly natural_ and actually has really solid characterization and dialogue. Maybe it’s just the fact we don’t usually get protagonists who are unabashedly awful people but they feel uniquely accurate to a friend group of rude, spiteful kids
