Ironically, i think both mercs (Deadpool and him) while do have good zoning tools, the fact is that to get to pressure the Top 10 characters in the game, they really struggle to do so. I think the only favorable matchup is Doom, but even then, another zoner character does better than both (Hawkeye), and can fare better against the T10. Doesn't favor them the low damage output they have. At least Task can do setups for double super compared to Deadpool, but that's about it. As of X-23, i do feel that while she does have some good tools and she's quite fast, it's the same deal with the mercs. She does have a setup ala Firebrand (unblocklable Lvl 3 in incoming assisted by Jam Session or any assist of that sort, like S. Skrull's Tenderizer or Tony's Repulsor Blast), but to get to that sweep strat, you have to kill/snap the point character (only in the corner), so that X-23 can do her stuff. It's also the fact that her learning curve is pretty high, for the low damage she dishes out, while the other T10 just do a lot of damage, and/or offer better assist than her. Funny enough, Wolverine is a better rushdown character over her, and he not only moves way faster, if played with assist properly, he can easily sweep your team if you allow them upclose. Same can be said for Nova, Spencer and Magneto. Won't even mention the trenchcoat guy and the Maverick hunter. X-23 you don't have to expect crazy movement bar on the ground. She has the DP and the directional dives, but they are very reactable, contrary to Nova's unfly L mixup, Magneto's shenanis, Wolverine's Berserker Slash, or that Spencer not only you have to fear his crossups, but also overhead that combos, command grab. C.Viper is also a better rushdown character with some zoning tools, but she's not picked as often because of that learning curve, but she's pretty amazing. That being said, I have seen an X-23 appear here and there in TNS tourneys, same for Task, but they aren't popular picks that's for sure.
As an X-23 I can tell you that the character is very highly slept on. Not exactly a secret top tier but definitely better than the community thinks; at least in my opinion.
Dapvip is the X-23 specialist. Can't recall the guy who uses Taskmaster these days, though. FChamp had Dapvip on his channel at some point in the past to showcase what he can do with X-23, Ironman, and Dante.
I think a lot of people forget that MODOK has some really bad matchups especially against characters that don’t have to engage him or shit him out with superior keep away or excellent teleport. He’s also a huge target. Going against Morrigan, Trish, Wesker, Vergil, Dante, Zero, Doctor Strange, Phoenix (normal and dark), and Doctor Doom are bad for you as these characters gave better buttons, don’t really need to engage him, take advantage of his huge hitbox, can air dash or fly, and kill him relatively easily. This is more of why people avoid him: his bad matchups are frustrating and are mostly top tier characters
I think this is why he is actually slightly better in second position. You can run a point character that handles his really bad match-ups better, he gets to provide a strong assist, TAC and DHC damage options, and no one really wants to snap him since he is far from helpless on incoming. Magneto/MODOK then Doom Missiles or Dante Jam in anchor slot to me seems like the best on paper options to run with a MODOK centric team. Magneto in particular seems like the best point to run because he confirms off just about every hit, provides MODOK an amazing beam assist after DHC, handles just about every match-up, and preserves both bounces while setting up for DHC into combo extensions perfectly for MODOK. I could also see Morrigan/MODOK/Doom being a really annoying zoning/screen flood composition to deal with.
I know you don't really play SFV, but in terms of character specialists I'm super fascinated with MDZ Jimmy, the only remaining Ryu main it feels like. In the current SFL Europe season it's apparent that Ryu, THE poster child of the entire franchise, has now become an incredibly niche pick, sometimes even leading to match-up knowledge discrepancies, and Jimmy really makes the most of that.
It's because Capcom janked up his kit and killed his links for most of SF5 so he had no real offense. Ryu was already the most defensive shoto but even when he got the hit he couldn't take advantage of it hardly at all.
I loved using him because of the wackiness. My team was Modok, Thor and Strange and the synergy was absurd. Too bad my execution was and still is awful, cause he and strange took way too much effort for me to actually use them right.

You could do a video covering all of the shotokan archetypes in marvel 3 and how they differ like Ryu,Taskmaster, Deadpool, Captain America and Akuma. You could point out things like akuma being able to ground bounce and OTG yet having less health than a cap or tasky.
@@caesar1512 the way how i play deadpool you would swear that he was a rushdown char but i have heard him described as an obnoxious keepaway character. there are other characters that fit the shoto archetype way better than captain america and task masker though. deadpool is definitely not a shoto

League of Legends developers run a blog where they talk design philosophy, and they had a HUGE visual update to several characters. They talked about the "power fantasy" of looking really good and doing powerful things, and ugly characters don't help fulfill that fantasy, so they changed the visuals on several underplayed/gross characters (Trundle, Urgot, etc). MODOK fits that "wtf gross" visual aesthetic that seems to be a huge turnoff to people. Sucks to be them, they're leaving valuable tools on the table if their main goal is to win.
Except Modok isn't even that competitive in this game. None of the top tier characters fear him so it's not as if putting effort into Mordok is going to make him viable.
A little diservice to the history of UMVC3 with MODOK is not mentioning Frutsy who made top 8 twice in EVO with that character when the game was very relevant. Not dissing on MOTHMAN or anything, i see him topping in frosty faustings but a little more research was needed, and its possible that neither of you knew who Frutsy was, or played the game back in 2012, but still, he is worth at least a shoutout.
Modok was one of the first characters I mained but I couldnt get used to doing his combos. The fact that jumping with him makes him fly was really throwing me off
Also, remember running into Rubiks a few times off and on in with his Modok at locals. Thats when I knew Modok was starting to gain some momentum in the scene

Hey, would be cool if you did a full vid on X 23. Was she really that bad or did people just never explore her fully. The only things i ever see with her are gimicky set ups with dirt nap but she seems outshined by pretty much every other rush down character.
How about trying to get Elyon, a top level Jubei player from blazblue central fiction. He took an arguably low-mid tier and got many top 8s and higher with him.

Lol this is a good example of not only high tier characters vs low tier characters, but high tier player vs low tier player. Once there is a big enough skill gap it becomes a single player game.

My first experience of this was Dark Souls 2’s Jester’s Outfit. Each piece of this light armor has a unique effect on gameplay, and the elemental defenses are absurdly high. But you look ridiculous, like a court jester. Fashion souls is important to people, otherwise, with a sweet black trench coat, it’d be super popular, instead of niche.
I still remember when Marvel 3 was revealing characters, and they nail it that the #1 reason people avoided him was absolutely because he was ugly and because the characters wasn't as well known by non-comic fans at the time as some of the other Marvel characters in the game. So the combination led to this entirely ridiculous but nevertheless popular idea that he was an obscure character that the developers only included to troll the fanbase, and the jumped-up outrage over this perceived insult stuck with the character for the entirety of the game's run. Yadda yadda "they're making fun of us for wanting Gambit / Venom / insert other fan favorite by throwing in this gremlin" fan conspiracy stuff. The clapback that he's actually a classic and fairly prominent Marvel character who just hadn't been adapted much largely got ignored. So people didn't like him because they genuinely thought he was a joke inclusion, just because he was ugly. That's also where the early perception that he was bad came from, from what I recall - people really did believe that Capcom malevolently threw this character into the game and intentionally made him bad to mock the fans, no matter how little sense it made, with some genuine shock from fan communities when people started playing him and he turned out to be good.

I wish Capcom would make another Modoc type character for street fighter since we will probably never get another mvc game I also would like to get another tag based game they really do a great job with their tag team games . I kind of wish Capcom would do what neather-realm does and have another game they could rotate out every couple of years. Like mk and injustice. I think Capcom fighting games is so awesome. I just wish we could see either a new game or maybe one of their older titles come back into play . I kind would like to see Capcom make more than one fighting game every couple of years and if they didn't want to make a big budget triple A game they could do some of their older smaller titles in-between new street fighter games. Man, I miss that from them. They used to make tons of fighting games and I understand why they stopped but I really think they could do some smaller titles or another big budget triple A game they could rotate with street fighter every couple of years.

The only downside that puts most people off is that he doesnt jump, so since he goes directly into flight mode you cant block unless you unfly or only use super jump to get in, but obviously this can be rectified with practice but why do all that and learn specific methods with one character when everyone else in the cast plays so easily.
Week 1 of Mvc3 (not ultimate) i created a Jamming bomb Bnb with Modok, I figured this was the most broken thing i've ever seen in a fighting game, sadly people never really exploited JB as much as I think it should have been.

I would not want to hang out with him for sure but I think the design is cool and he was the first character I was interested in playing. For some reason I really like bad guy, or buff guy characters in fighting games. Hope that makes sense! It's just my personal preference.
I remember the first time I saw one of his bigger combos. "Analyze CUBE! Analyze CUBE! Analyze CUBE! Analyze! Analyze! Analyze! Analyze! Analyze! K_LL You!" Man did so much study knows everything about you now. Name, phone number, where you shop, what your having for dinner tonight, where you parked, what number you are thinking about. Him and Tager would love one another with all the "POWER OF SCIENCE"" going on.
that's one of the things i dislike about the mvc games....the infinite(and pseudo-infinite) combos....i think there was a mortal kombat game that handled combos correctly. after a certain amount of damage(25% of total health bar seems reasonable to me) it would toss the vicim to the other side of the screen and the comboing character would be stunned for a moment....more games should do that.
limiting damage and combos is not fun, nobody likes it, marvel is an inherently broken game so if you want something less broken then go play or watch something else

Love it. My team is pretty close to his. MODOK, Doom, Hawkeye. I use MODOK and Doom because same reasons he does and Hawkeye is my anchor because he's probably my best character personally. My other team is Taskmaster, Sentinel, Hawkeye. Mainly because I just love Taskmaster as a character, not because I'm very good at playing him.
Well that and Modok's not competitive viable. Though I'll admit his character design looks nice even though his characterization is lame. I don't why you don't want to play as Blanka from SF. Dude looks ferocious.
Give Modok a trenchcoat and I would bet he'd be picked more.

So the combination led to this entirely ridiculous but nevertheless popular idea that he was an obscure character that the developers only included to troll the fanbase, and the jumped-up outrage over this perceived insult stuck with the character for the entirety of the game's run.
Yadda yadda "they're making fun of us for wanting Gambit / Venom / insert other fan favorite by throwing in this gremlin" fan conspiracy stuff. The clapback that he's actually a classic and fairly prominent Marvel character who just hadn't been adapted much largely got ignored. So people didn't like him because they genuinely thought he was a joke inclusion, just because he was ugly.
That's also where the early perception that he was bad came from, from what I recall - people really did believe that Capcom malevolently threw this character into the game and intentionally made him bad to mock the fans, no matter how little sense it made, with some genuine shock from fan communities when people started playing him and he turned out to be good.
These breakdown of not often played characters is awesome. I can’t wait for the next one!!

I wish Capcom would make another Modoc type character for street fighter since we will probably never get another mvc game I also would like to get another tag based game they really do a great job with their tag team games . I kind of wish Capcom would do what neather-realm does and have another game they could rotate out every couple of years. Like mk and injustice. I think Capcom fighting games is so awesome. I just wish we could see either a new game or maybe one of their older titles come back into play . I kind would like to see Capcom make more than one fighting game every couple of years and if they didn't want to make a big budget triple A game they could do some of their older smaller titles in-between new street fighter games. Man, I miss that from them. They used to make tons of fighting games and I understand why they stopped but I really think they could do some smaller titles or another big budget triple A game they could rotate with street fighter every couple of years.

The only downside that puts most people off is that he doesnt jump, so since he goes directly into flight mode you cant block unless you unfly or only use super jump to get in, but obviously this can be rectified with practice but why do all that and learn specific methods with one character when everyone else in the cast plays so easily.

Week 1 of Mvc3 (not ultimate) i created a Jamming bomb Bnb with Modok, I figured this was the most broken thing i've ever seen in a fighting game, sadly people never really exploited JB as much as I think it should have been.
MODOK can mostly kill off any hit with the right assists. Maybe that has some part in it? But I agree, jamming peeps is super fun, ha

I would not want to hang out with him for sure but I think the design is cool and he was the first character I was interested in playing. For some reason I really like bad guy, or buff guy characters in fighting games. Hope that makes sense! It's just my personal preference.

that's one of the things i dislike about the mvc games....the infinite(and pseudo-infinite) combos....i think there was a mortal kombat game that handled combos correctly. after a certain amount of damage(25% of total health bar seems reasonable to me) it would toss the vicim to the other side of the screen and the comboing character would be stunned for a moment....more games should do that.

limiting damage and combos is not fun, nobody likes it, marvel is an inherently broken game so if you want something less broken then go play or watch something else

infinite(and pseudo-infinite) combos are not fun. they turn the game into just memorizing a combo instead of actually fighting.
@@sabin97 infinite combos are a cornerstone of kusoge fighting games and its a part of why "some" people love then. If you don't want to deal with it i really suggest to look elsewhere

Love it. My team is pretty close to his. MODOK, Doom, Hawkeye. I use MODOK and Doom because same reasons he does and Hawkeye is my anchor because he's probably my best character personally. My other team is Taskmaster, Sentinel, Hawkeye. Mainly because I just love Taskmaster as a character, not because I'm very good at playing him.
MODOK is such a weird concept. there are some funny bits with him in the comics.
