    IIRC, your pressure driven unit with heater tested damn near the same power usage as both of these direct drive tests. I had no idea pressure drive centrifuges existed, a very neat concept! For almost the same power usage, I am surprised at how much more junk these direct drive units pull out. I have probably 35 gallons of oil sitting around, I'm tempted to try one of those pressure drive centrifuges to clean it enough to run in the boiler. I don't have any diesel vehicles yet, but heating oil here is still $4-5 a gallon. I thoroughly appreciate all the testing you do

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Рік тому +1

      Power consumption with the pressure driven unit will be a little higher because you need to preheat the whole drum of oil to 170°+ F. The direct drive units are more efficient for sure but the pressure drive units have a smaller foot print. If you can source your own pump and motor, the pressure drive setups can be done fairly cheap. I prefer the direct drive personally.

Also I am curious to see what your opinion is in the end. I feel personally if something is working why change it. Question so #1 why didn't you go to a larger pipeline and #2 why not preheat in drum ?

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Рік тому +1

      Larger pipeline as in feed line to the centrifuge? I only run around 5gph... the current setup will easily do 3x that so no real need to go larger if I'm understanding your question correctly.
      As for heating the gravity drum... again no real need to. The heater at the centrifuge does the job amd uses less energy doing it. It requires a lot of energy to heat a full drum of oil... drum would have to be metal... would have to be insulated... and even then, it would take hours with a high wattage heater to heat the whole drum to a point that it drives off moisture and makes a difference. Heating at the centrifuge is more efficient basically. Now of I were running a pressure drive setup, the only real way to use heat in that application is to heat the drum. Its doable... I'm just not setup for it and at this point, I wouldn't gain anything from doing it if that makes sense.
