One of the best videos I have seen. Very detailed explanation without excess verbiage. Thank you for explaining how you tied into the roof and addressed how the water will run off.
I have about the same patio and approximate roof structure, I have been looking for this specific video. The concepts utilized (wood cuts, connectors, one plane as the flat roof ascends) all will be applicable to my existing uncovered patio area. Thanks for the no nonsense, serious content instruction in the video. Keep up the great work. Subscribed, liked, and looking forward to seeing more from your channel.
Can you go into more detail about how to connect to the existing rooftop and how to finish the shingles. I am trying to correct a build out where the existing is not tall enough and it is finished with fiberglass shingles that leak where they overlap so I want tp lift it up to the roofline as you did here.
I will go into to detail when the final comes out. We are working something out with one of our subcontractors on the job. You will see a video really soon
What if you had a chimney in the corner where the two different slopes of the roof connect ? (Right by the door). Would you still do this roofing style. Also that looks like a low sloped roof did you still use shingles?
@@JewKnowMe shingles require a 2:12 pitch to use. If there was a chimney there, we would build a cricket and flash it accordingly no matter what roofing we use.
Thanks for the response! Would the framing be the same except there would be a small cricket behind the chimney or would you do different framing for the side section (the one with the 2x4s)? I have the exact same roof and matched the same slope for my patio cover as you. Been following it to a T. But didn’t account for the chimney.
@ cricket behind it, which it probably already has, and yes a small cricket to the side if you think it’s necessary. Probably depends if the chimney is inside the house or on the outside of the house.
@@everythingresidential my chimney is on the inside right at the edge. It is right where the two different slopes connect which I believe is a valley? No cricket behind. Which is surprising. It’s a tricky spot. That’s the last obstacle. Other than your video REALLY helped. I couldn’t find any other video this clear, straight to the point, and matched my roof style.
I don’t think it will need a cricket on the sides because the roof rafters will already be sloped. But make sure a roof rafter or blocking is against both sides. If it’s a brick or block chimney, Definitely grinds a line into the block so the Z bar flashing can be installed correctly, and really goop it up with roof sealant.
Great video, im adding a covered porch on a double wide looks like trusses are 24 oc, im using osb and metal roofing . Do i need to add anything to roof for support and how far up do i need to go, roofs a 12/2 or 12/3 pitch
Hi I am doing for my own house .I am not professional.how I can cut top RAF 2X6 and 2X4 to give equal slope on top of existing roof . with regular saw .thanks
Very nice video I will do one like that but I have a couple questions what are the size of that beam and how much is one of those and the second is how much you paid for the build permit and how long it takes to get approved? Thanks for the video and show us you work have a good day man
The beam cost $750 amd I believe it’s a 16” X 5.5” X 30’ long. The building permit cost 160$ and I created my own plans which could cost you an additional $1200
What changes other than the length of lumber do I need to make for a 20' by 12' patio cover that also servers as a deck off my second story master bedroom? I do know I'll need an handrail built to local building code.
Looks great. What is the pitch of the porch roof? I thought the minimum for shingles is 2/12? I am only asking because I am designing a full length porch like this.
It doesn’t look like any of the wood is treated. Is that correct? My question is mostly around the posts. Did they need any barrier where they contact the bracket and concrete?
We use large beams because we don’t like multiple posts and since we put the roof onto the other roof rather than on the top plate it gives us room for play. So by using a larger beam we achieve a richer taste and a more open look
Okay, I'll say it. Shouldn't record in fish eye. Very bad perspective. Everything looks warped and wonky as I watch on a 65" tv imo. Great job on the build however 👍🏼

Nice work, good explanations. Thanks bro

Good job of explaining, but do you have part 3 of the video , I’m doing the same thing , but I have problem to put the plywood on top ,
Can we see more about that white

@@everythingresidential did you ever get into how you got the angle for the patio rafter to connect to the existing rafters?

Are those post sitting on a 4 inch pad or are there cement pillars underneath the pad where the post sit?
Large concrete footings
Do you remember by chance how big the footings where@@everythingresidential
Why did you prefer to use an anchor post base mount vs one that is embedded in the concrete?
Because there is room for error if you embed it.
How’d you get the angles to make the cuts for the joist connecting to the roof?

For you to build it it will probably cost you around 5k

1:12 for rolled roofing

Probably depends on your location, but none of it needs to be pressure treated in Az
What was the price of this thing???
Where did your order the hardware for the posts and beam?
Home Depot has them, if not they are a Simpson product
Thank you for your video. Question: Is it necessary to build a heavy beam for the patio?
We use large beams because we don’t like multiple posts and since we put the roof onto the other roof rather than on the top plate it gives us room for play. So by using a larger beam we achieve a richer taste and a more open look
When setting the post on the patio, did the patio had a footer?
Yes, we pulled a permit and poured a footer to the engineer specs.
Do you have a part 2
So did he post a part three?

A clear plastic hose does the same job as an expensive laser 😉
Old school, #amish
no enough pitch , not good
Roof pitch is minimum 1/4” per foot and this is more than that. So it is enough pitch per code
rafter are not even
Rafters line up with the existing trusses so sometime they won’t be 24” O.C. And with my fish eye lens it might not seem straight.
I bought woodglut instructions once and now I have lifetime access to thousands of woodworking projects.
